Vampire Facelift-Micro Needling with PRP
$500
In order to reduce some scarring around my mouth, I decided to treat myself to micro needling with PRP at Aesthetic Medicine Center in Hinsdale. I had been there before for fillers and was happy with my results. The facility is clean, and the employees friendly. The office is busy, but wait time is nominal. For this procedure I arrived at 10 and was finished around 1. First, my blood was drawn, then spun to separate blood and plasma. That takes about 20 minutes. While Nurse Michelle got the plasma ready, I had numbing cream applied and waited for that to take effect. Next, Nurse Michelle injected the plasma into areas of my face where I have concerns: around my mouth, some areas on the cheeks, forehead, and nasal folds. Then, I moved to a treatment room with Arleen, the aesthetician for the microneedling and application of more plasma and hyaluronic acid. The plasma injections were not painful, but I did feel an odd sensation of heaviness in the face where it was injected, but that quickly disappeared. The microneedling was done with a derma pen/plasma pen at a level 1 then at a 2. Arleen made 3 passes over the entire face. Very thorough. And, yes, there is some pain involved when passes are made over areas of the face that are more boney-like the forehead. I took a couple Tylenol when I got home and a couple this AM, but now, 24 hours later I feel fine. I did not wash my face at all last night, but I showered this AM. My face is pretty red, especially the forehead and around the nose. My only negative so far was the smell of the PRP. I am super sensitive to odors and felt a bit nauseated by the smell. Nurse Michelle and Arleen are both excellent in performing their jobs and very knowledgeable in their expertises. I’m excited to see the results which occur in the next 2-4 weeks and continue over time! Will post updates at one week, etc.

Did they send you home with the “leftovers “ to put on your face that night?
I was a little apprehensive about spreading this plasma on my face by myself. It was just a weird feeling, but I DID IT!!!
Hope you’re enjoying the benefits from the microneedling.
I am seeing on my skin great improvements.

They did not send me home with my plasma. The nurse injected it into my face first in areas where I usually get filler, then the rest was micro needled in and smeared on before I went home. I couldn’t wash my face until the next morning. The plasma was so slimy coming off. I did not like the smell at all. I really liked the CO2 much better. And the results more significant.

Hmmm, interesting that the nurse injected the plasma into your face. Did it hurt? My esthetician didn’t even tell me of such an option! What was the cost of this?
Do you feel that the CO2 was better? Ok, I’ve got to know why. Did you have it recently? Was it painful and were you awake?

I had the procedure this past April, so last month. I was numbed, and the injections did not hurt, but the 2nd half of it did-the microneedling of the rest of the PRP. But only on the boney areas of the face-jawline and especially the forehead. The CO2 was definitely more effective but a more painful recovery. And not a lot of difference in price. Swelling with the CO2 was outrageous for 3-5 days. So worth it though. I was awake for both procedures.

What outcome have you noticed since the CO2? How often will you get this done?
Are you finished with the microneedling?

I do microneeding at home and I bought a dermapen. I don’t think I’ll do any more needling at the doctor’s office. I did a series of 5 about 4 years ago and I think I get as good of results at home myself. Dr. Shah recommended doing the CO2 twice a year if desired. I want to do another one in the winter. The results were amazing.

Melissa... what improvements do you see from the Co2? Does your ps do Erbium laser too?
Are you planning on anymore plastic surgery?
Did you purchase the dermaplane on line?

May 28, 2019
The pores on my face are barely there and it is lighten up a couple of dark spots on my cheeks. I felt like he CO2 tightened my skin. I don’t know anything about the Erbium laser. Is it stronger? I bought my new dermapen through Macy’s online!

I think I am happy with my face- no more surgery for now-lol. Botox and fillers when needed. As for the body, this 360 lipo is pretty invasive, I know the results will prove it worthwhile. Maybe lipo on upper arms or an inner thigh lift-if I can have hidden sutures. Those are down the line. What about you?

I’m not sure what the difference is in the two lasers. I know that I had to pay A LOT for the rental of the laser. Did you have to pay for it? I was not put out, but should have been. It was excruciating. It felt like a meat cleaver on my face.
I also paid so much more than you did with your laser, that probably delivered the same results!!!
Do you like this ps? Where is he located?

May 28, 2019
How often do you get fillers and Botox?
Ok, I’m curious what you pay for Botox. My ps charges per syringe...$145!!
Do you use fillers in your cheeks?
When’s your lipo surgery??

I go to a dr in Hinsdale. I usually pay $8 a unit or less. I check Groupon for specials. I have used fillers in my cheeks but haven’t had any since 2016. I was using Sculptra. So long lasting.

I love Dr. Shah and his staff. He is located in Water Tower, in the professional building. I usually take the train and cab it to WaterTower. I did not pay for laser rental-I believe he has everything right there. Down the hallway from his office, is the surgical center, if you are having surgery that requires sedation. Awesome nurses and services. I was very impressed with it. The laser was a bit painful but not bad. I was numbed up pretty well. I thought the pain was worse after I got home and the numbing wore off.

Does he charge $8 a unit or is that Groupon prices? My ps charges per syringe $150! I usually spend $850 every three months. It’s soooo expensive that I really try to stretch it out.

Dr. Shah sounds like he’s got state of the art equipment!! He sure does excellent work and at great prices!
Didn’t you go for a consultation with my ps, Dr. Sweis?
I’d think Shah would have exorbitant prices since he’s in Water Tower. He’s definitely cheaper than Sweis. I had to pay for the rental of the laser.

I did see her for a consultation. I liked her but she was hesitant with me because I’d had Sculptra in my cheeks. She thought it might cause scarring and she told me she’d had a patient who had some necrosis because of Sculptra. I’d never heard that, and it made me nervous. The other doctors I saw did not believe necrosis to be caused by a filler.

I get Dysport or Botox 3 times a year-forehead, crows feet, and between the eyes. I did the 360 lipo 2 weeks ago. Swelling is really going down and bruising fading. Very happy so far. No hanging skin!

Do you still have Sculptura in your cheeks? Did you like that filler? Isn’t it in a series of injections, and expensive?
What exactly is necrosis?

June 1, 2019
I’ve never tried Dysport! I heard that it doesn’t last as long as Botox!!????
Where’d ya have the lipo? I had lipo on my flanks. It’s awesome!!

I am not sure that I have any Sculptra left in my cheeks. I haven't had Sculptra in several years. I stopped 2 years before my facelift, just in case it would case any problems. I love Sculptra. It was pricey but cheaper in the long run than other cheek fillers I'd tried. Also, it builds your own collagen over time. That's why it's so long lasting. I was paying around $2000 for 3 sessions of Sculptra, over the course of 1 1/2 years; however, I didn't need anything other than Botox or Dysport, and it lasted for over 2-3 years on me. I saw Dr. Stanley Kovak in Oakbrook Terrace for Sculptra. But, I see that Dr. Shah does Sculptra now, so if I decide to go that route again, I will go to him. As for necrosis, that is tissue death that can result in nasty sores and scarring. I saw evidence of this on several reviews for face lifts and breast reductions. It occurs when skin is pulled too tightly, restricting blood flow to the area, impeding healing. Really gross.

I heard Sculptura is really the best for longevity and the effect. I’m doing four syringes of Juvederm at $750 each. My ps doesn’t offer Sculptura. I’m not sure why??!!
I’m going for my last syringe in two weeks and I’m going to ask her.
Necrosis sounds horrible! I’m sure this happens often when someone uses an inexperienced doc.

June 4, 2019
I think necrosis can happen with nearly any doctor. Sometimes it's the patient's fault, common with smokers, too. Where are you having the Juvederm?

June 4, 2019
Thank goodness its never happened to me! I guess there’s always a chance of infection in any type of surgery.
This is my fourth syringe of Juvederm on my cheeks. It’s ridiculous how many I need. I had some injected into my commissures to lift them up. Next month is Botox. My list is never ending!!!

Thanks for your review and photos! They're so helpful for our members :) How have you been feeling lately?

January 2, 2020
I had no vampire facial and to be honest I’m not sure I’ll have the second they told me to wash my face after 4 hrs to get the plasma off and I’ve read that your suppose to leave it on for 24 hrs so I’m really confused it’s been 2 weeks and I’m still peeling abit here and there. I live in Ontario and with tax in it was 660.00 I honestly don’t think it’s worth that money for me anyways. I may look into injections. My down time was t least 5 days with this procedure. I know a lot of woman love this but I’m not that impressed. You do look great.

Do you have any after pics? I found this interesting after watching that recent RS microneedling/PRP webinar.
