Micro Needling Has Ruined my Skin, Texture and Elasticity!

ORIGINAL POST

Micro Needling Has Ruined my Skin, Texture and Elasticity!

MillieBB
I recently started seeing lots of terrible lines all over my face that I hadn’t seen before. This happened really quickly! Like within 18 face my face has gone from amazing (never worried about it ) to the point where I’m now scared to have people look at me or smile or make any movement whatsoever ever because of the terrible condition and texture. I get anxiety when I look at older ladies faces and they have waaaay better skin than mine. The only thing I can put it down to
Is the microneesling I had done
Approx 2years ago. I asked my Dr who just said “oh you’ve lost weight” I wish I’d never messed with my skin ! After reading similar post on here it looks as though my skin will never be the same again and I’m really struggling .I can’t even look in the mirror this is just awful. Don’t do this treatment without seriously considering the side effects. I have no idea how my skin will ever return to its former state . I’ll try and post some before photos soon - I’m absolutely considering a face life. I’m 42 years old - nobody I know has skin so bad . I might try light therapy but I’m not holding my breath. I have heart palpitations every time I look in the mirror. This is not fun AT ALL. I had 4 treatments over a 2 year period . I just have to live with it now I guess , I was crying to my work mates today because I hate what I see. HELP has anyone had a similar experience and recoverd??

Yes! I had Eclipse pen microneedling at a med-spa and it made lines all over my face. I went to a dermatologist for fillers and a consult and he looked at my face and asked me if I suffered a trauma to my face. It did eventually smooth out but took about a year of care. Sorry this happened to you. Was it RF microneedling or just with a pen?
March 25, 2021
What did you do during the year of care?
March 26, 2021
Retin A/retinol, vitamin C, lots of moisturizer, light dermabrasion, and VI peels.
March 27, 2021
I used a hylauronic acid serum and various products with Retinol and AHAs, vitamin B serums. Going way back to basics now - no make up , water cleansing only with micro fibre wash cloth, occasional cleanse with Clairns cream cleanser , using Trilogy Rosehip Oil and Coconut oil and also taking vitamin C and fish oil orally. I think vitamin C is amazing for skin — looking back at times in my life when my skin was great I recall taking vitamin C . Xx

How many MN sessions did you do? How far spaced apart? Do you know what aggression they did? It looks all better now?
November 30, 2020
Hi thanks for your comment. I had this treatment at a Beauty Therapy Clinic with a pen, not RF. It’s taken me a while to realise just how bad the damage is, I had a consult last week and am going to start doing some very mild chemical peels. The practitioner I will go to has a bio chemistry degree so it’s taken me a while to find someone I trust ! I may go to a dermatologist also to see if there is something topical that will help. I’m pretty worried it won’t get better as the more I look into this damage the worse it sounds! Sounds like once the skin is scared, it never completely heals ! Thanks again for your comment. I can’t believe this treatment exists- I see it advertised in plastic surgery’s now too !!! The other issue I have is that I’m sure. The fat cells beneath the dermal layer also get damaged and can’t be replaced - not good if you’re trying to retain plumpness ! If you have any photos of your skin I’d love to see them , give me some hope!!
Thanks again :)

How did your gentle peels go? How long after the last microneedling treatment did you wait to start treating?
March 27, 2021
Hi I think the peels are good for a deep clean but not to good for helping with the skin texture. I’ve had 2 peels and won’t do anymore, I’m just babying my skin now. No make up, lots of hydration drinking water and going back to nature with Coconut Oil and Rosehip Oil. Nothing with Retinol or AHAs. I don’t think these help my skin. My needling was approx 16 months ago.

How many sessions did you do? How spaced apart? Do you know what aggression?
March 27, 2021
I did two sessions approx 3 years ago, 4 weeks apart and my skin recovered really well. No problems at all. Then I had one session almost 2 years ago , this one did the damage. I image the technican become too familiar and went to town on my skin. She was very good with cleanliness, hygiene but went way to deep I believe, I can’t stand going back to her for an assessment, no doubt she will take no responsibility so I’m bypassing all of that. I probably should go in and ask her about her machine (pen) how many needles ect , which I will do when I feel less emotional. I’m going to a dermatologist in July (yep it’s a 4 month wait ! ) to get on the right path about what topical products to use, her professional assessment on the amount of damage , could the damage get worse ect .... until I see her I’m totally babying my skin. I’m so sad about the fat loss because you can’t get that back - I could try gain some weight (I’m a small build ) in the hope to plump out my face. From what I understand once the fat cells are gone though , they are gone. X

Did you try any MSM supplements or topical? Do you think it’s still getting worse? I’m also babying my skin. I’m in the early stages of damage. I’m so upset and scared. I don’t know what to do, except be so gentle. Have you done any Botox or fillers? I’m too scared. I want to bc where My expression lines are is getting scarred. I keep praying for us all. Sending love and prayers

Just starting the supplements now - so high dose vitamin C, a collagen called neocell and fish oil. When I have used supplements in the past (before damage) my skin did look good. I’ve been a bit scared to do anything but after a conversation with a family member her advice was “go back to nature” .... so that’s what I’ll do for a while. I also read a post lately about super young looking celebrities and they just use basics like coconut oils ect. Don’t know where I read the post but it made sense in hindsight. I never had a problem with my skin so should not have messed with it !! This should not be sold as a rejuvenating facial for someone with good skin. Don’t worry - keep babying your skin, it has to start healing sometime.....I’m also going to a Naturopath in May ( yes a 2 month wait for this one !!! ) Probably should have got onto all of this sooner but I didn’t have a clear head and was trying more topical things like peels and retinol. Now it’s totally back to basics xx try not to worry I know it’s hard - I’ve been so worried and crying, depressed for so long about this. I have to try focus on good things it’s the only way to get through - day by day. Keep asking for help , our skin has to start healing eventually xx

Thanks for your time and answers. This damages continues to get worse on me daily. When does it come to an end? Will it continue to worsen? Just wondering from everyone's experience. I will take all of the rest of your advice and thank you again. Sending us all love and prayers.

Hi can you get to a dermatologist? I’d say don’t muck around and book into a professional- not a cosmetic professional who will just take your money , but someone who knows how skin should behave ect. Try not let this get you down , I know it’s hard, I literally can feel anxiety running through me when I think about this. I wake in the night dreaming my face is destroyed. Some days are better than others but I’m slowly trying to accept my new skin- it’s hard because I’ve always had good skin so I’ve never known what it’s like to feel like this. Thanks for the prayers - how many treatments did you have? This has been a lesson for me to be way more aware of what I do to my body. I’ve always been for and healthy and never had a broken bone or stitches so have taken all of these benefits for granted. I’m more aware now and will research and question any procedure to do with my body - sounds so naive to think I was so trusting before. Tour skin will settle down at some point , it may not be the same but it will “balance out” I’m sure. Xx

I did three medium/aggressive treatments spaced 5-7 weeks apart. The marks continue to surface. Lately they have been slowing down, but a new red line formed today out of nowhere. It’s so upsetting and disheartening. I’m trying so hard to remain positive, but I think I need to be medicated some days. Have you ever tried Psoria Gold? I started it and it’s helping me bc my skin was having prickly sensations and now that part is gone. I am in a skin damage survivors support group on Face Book and there is a lot of
Good advice and other people like us.

I have had a similar experience with Fractora. It's been 2 1/2 years. I use Rosehip after HA, day and night. You need to wait years before you try any severe treatment. It takes years for scars to heal. I am now doing Clear and Brilliant two weeks apart x 6 to see if it makes a difference. Please be patient and gentle with you skin.

Are you already on the Facebook group Skin Damage Survivors?
November 30, 2020
I don’t have any pictures of my skin, sorry. I did use Retin A, Vitamin C serum and lots of moisturizer. I had a couple of VI peels also and they seemed to help. I think you will recover but will have to baby your skin. It sounds like you are on the right track. Good luck!

May I ask what a VI peel is?
December 17, 2020
VI peel is a name-brand peel that can only be done by a physician’s office. It’s a nice beginner peel with TCA in it. That’s what it’s called - VI Peel.
March 27, 2021
How many microneedling treatments have you had? How spaced apart? Do you know what depth/aggression? I’m sorry if you answered this already. I can’t find it on here
December 1, 2020
Thanks comments - it gives me hope! Wearing make up has even become a problem because the texture is so bad. I’ll keep up with my treatment plan and hope for the best Xx
March 26, 2021
Millie how are you doing with your treatment plan? Any improvement?

This does not look BETTER!

MillieBB
Is it just me or is the before photo waaaay better of this lady? I found it on a website promoting micro needling. My heart dropped as her skin now looks like mine ! Loose and hanging , hollow with a uneven tone! So annoyed this treatment even exists. Fat cells become abolished with this treatment and I have no idea how you get them back. My understanding is once they are destroyed the body metabolises them and they are gone forever rather than just “shrunk” like normal weight loss. I’m not a doctor and even I have worked this out ! How can doctors offer this treatment!!!!!!

OMG ,,, this is really terrible !!! i have the same experience and my skin lost volume and elasticity and my skin look much older .. i was only seeking for more refresh the skin and ending up with this !! its broke my heart to see other people have been through all this like me , after 3 years I am hopeless i don't know what to do more ? i try laser and peeling and retin a cream and supplement and a lot of things and didn't change anything.
March 22, 2021
I feel the same way, I did microneedling for a preventative measure because I’m turning 40 and wanted to start investing in my skin and it’s been the worst investment of my life . I did it a year and a half ago. My skin was fine, even the esthetician complimented on how nice my skin was and how microneedling was going to mantain it and give it a nice glow. Well it looks horrible , I tried everything and could cry. If anyone has any suggestions please advice would be great. Before microneedling I looked younger than what I was and now I looked older than I am. This treatment definitely is not for everyone like they claim.

Hi there! I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. Have you tried red light therapy? This has worked wonders for my skin after a negative dermapen experience!
October 24, 2021
Hi there ! Yes it has helped but only temporarily. Nothing permanently has helped.
March 23, 2021
Hi I’m so sorry you went through this. I know exactly what you mean - may I ask how many treatments you did ? The problem I’m having is that my skin seems to get worse not better. Please feel free to inbox me , x
July 22, 2021
Yes, you are right. She looks worse in the after picture. It's amazing that people still do this treatment even after seeing the results on someone else. "The Emperor wore no clothes" syndrome.

2 Years Post -

MillieBB
2 years post - no real improvement to the lines and holes in my skin. I have a slight plumping to my face due to a bit of weight gain , but overall the damage is still the same.
I’ve been taking collagen, fish oil, vitaminC, and using a good barrier cream along with very mild peels and light therapy. Some days are better than others but unfortunately the damage is done and there is no reversal. I can only try and manage what I have now.
I still look at other ladies skin my age and they don’t have these issues of creaping , they may have deep wrinkles in forehead frown and crows feet - but not the overall horrible texture.
Don’t think there’s much more I can do now other than a face lift.
All the best to anyone out there who has suffered from this disastrous treatment.
Xx

Hi I’m almost 43. I have had this problem for a couple of years now. My skin never bothered me before x
June 14, 2021
omg am so sorry that happened to you , we are survivor from damage causes from micro needling , i can see the same damage in my skin too with a lot of scars and large pore , i thought time will make it better , but i agree with you about face lift its will much better but the texture for your skin will not change unless we find a good treatment, they told me about tca peeling but i didn't try it . best of luck

Microneedling tends to leave scars and so sorry this happened to you. Have you considered professional laser treatments? I think they can help but you need to use very high SPF sunscreen and avoid sun at all if possible. Retinol could help as well but same sun protection rule applies. Have you tried retinol?
June 21, 2021
I had Fractora, whih is micro needling on steroids. Totally destroyed my skin. Worse than yours. I just had Clear and Brilliant 6 times, 2 weeks apart. It did improve my skin a lot. I am seeing that it is smoother and firmer. My doc is Rhonda Rand in Beverly Hills. She know my story from the beginning, since Dec 2017 when I made the worse decision of my life. I will continue to have more treatments. No down time and no damage. Try this before you have a face lift. It's not perfect but I feel it was enough of an improvement to make it worth it. I no longer feel embarrassed when I go out in public. So sorry for you pain. Best to you and be patient.

Hi, can you share any pictures? How long after the date of the damaging treatment did you wait to try clear and brilliant? Did it help scars and texture and redness or just volume? I’m in the group “skin damage survivors” on face book and someone in the group had bbl laser and says it’s helping her. Anyway thanks for always sharing and being helpful
July 8, 2021
Do you recommend taking any supplements for skin healing?
July 8, 2021
I think the C& B helped with the scars, texture and volume. My skin looks firmer. I have less pigment marks on my face. I don't know what bbl laser is but will look it up. I am scheduled to do another round of C& B. I do take a lot of supplements. I think we should do everything possible that won't hurt us. It's been two and half years since my fractora. What I like about the clear and brilliant is that I don't have to worry about being in the sun as much as I would if I had laser. I'm an out door girl. I will try and visit you all on face book.
