Made my skin worse, my pores look much larger

ORIGINAL POST

Microneedling and larger pores

Arlace
I have done about 6 microneedling treatments over the past year, and my skin does not look any better than it did to being with. 3 of the microneedling were Vivace microneedling with Radiofrequency (which did nothing and was super expensive), and the rest were Rejuvapen, which is like the skin pen. My main concern was skin texture; acne scars and mainly pores.
Microneedling did not improve my skin like it does for many. It made my skin worse, in a sense that my pores look much larger and I have all these pores/dots on my forehead that didn't show prior to my microneedling treatments. I have stopped microneedling since, and did 3 chemical peels after (each 3 spaced a month apart), to see if that was better for my skin texture but I have not seen a crazy difference.
I feel that these treatments have made my skin weaker/thinner/lost elasticity to where my pores appear MUCH larger now than before doing ANY treatments. Anyone else experienced this?
I have also tried everything out there to minimize my large pores and nothing seems to really work. They say that pores are genetic but no one in my family has skin like mine. I feel that at my age, my skin isn't supposed to look like this many deep pores. I am 29 years old.

I'm sorry this happened do you have any before pics to compare? I'm looking into microneedling for my large pores too but obviously don't want them to get any larger

I will upload a before when I find one! From my experience, I really don't think microneedling is for everyone. Although, a lot of people love it and it's promoted so much on social media, I just don't think all skin types can tolerate micro punctures on skin and heal all the same. If you decide to do it, keep an eye on pore size and texture and your skin in general. With me I noticed larger pores after a few treatments and I kept getting treatments thinking it would shrink them but it just made them worse and created new texture.

Hi, to anyone wondering whether microneedling is worth it. It is not. I had 2 sessions done on my face by a highly rated, professional skin place in LA and I came out worse than I did coming in. The treatment was $300 each, and all I saw was no improvement after waiting the entire week for each treatment. I had seen some holes in my skin which became permanent from the microneedling. I was adamant to find a solution. During the next year I tried many different creams, cleansers, while they helped my skin look smooth and glow somewhat, it did not fix my scars nor my holes from micro. I moved and went to a different skin and laser place and I tried deep tca peels. This has helped and now I do not see these holes on my skin anymore while also removing scars each time. The lasers though are the best choice because those have been more impactful for my scarring.

I’m in the same boat. How are you doing now?

Really? Do you feel your pores are worse? How's your skin?

At first I thought it was impossible it was the microneedling so that's why I kept doing treatments, but then the more treatments I got the more I started to realize it has to be the microneedling that's making my skin worse. And then I started reading into it how other people have experienced negative effects of microneedling as well.

Sometimes I think about how much better my skin would be if I didn't mess with these treatments. Microneedling promotes "shrinking pores" and is promoted so much as one of the best treatments to get. But from my experience, it is not at all suited for everyone.

Everything got worse. My skin texture, laxity, pores. It’s awful:(

I’m 9 months in and don’t see improvements. I hope it will get better for you!

I went to a skin therapist and she told me that I have to treat my skin like I have rosacea now (eventhough I don’t have it) but that my reaction the the microneedling is like a rosacea/dermatitis reaction.

Don’t do any treatments and just baby your skin!! Let it rest and heal.

Hope for the best

Exact same happen to me. It's been two years. It stress me out. Have anyone got any solution??

I'm thinking about getting laser genesis to try to repair my skin. I've gotten it in the past before I even tried microneedling, and that was great on my skin. It really help with my breakouts at the time and gave my skin a nice glow. I wonder if that'll help my skin but I'm afraid to keep doing things to my skin that will probably worsen it. I'm debating whether to leave my skin and no more treatments, or if to continue trying new things like lasers to help the pores and texture that the microneedling caused.

2 years without improvements?
What kind of damage do you have?
How old are you?

Hi, I think it works for people that have normal collagen function but if your collagen is not functioning normally for whatever reason and you do a skin damaging procedure, that’s all it does.. just damage your skin without the collagen inducing benefits they sell us

Perfect answer !! That’s the exact issue xx before any treatment that will damage the skin (no matter how young you are ) needs collagen and water . A few weeks or months before you plan on getting the treatment.. after the treatment use hylaronic acid and collagen gel or anything that’s good for the skin as it’s going to penetrate so much more than before as the skin is damaged (use the powder collagen drink it’s better than tablet form ) x

Water ,collagen and good serums after before during and after treatments.. did you go to a professional or did you do it yourself ? Xx
