Hello ladies, i have just had my liposculpture...
hello ladies, i have just had my liposculpture procedure with DR. Mendieta. I must say this website has been extremely helpful so i have decided to share my journey with you as well.
I love my body, but like most females i am super picky and there are just stubborn fat areas that are a MISSION to get rid of, so i decided to seek dr. mendieta’s help since he has THE reputation for truly being the best in his field and craft.
i didn’t really shop around or see other doctors, i have been in the plastic surgery field and worked with both Salama and Salzhauer and although they do great work, as soon as i met with Dr Mendieta I felt and ease and right away knew he would be the doctor for me.
SCHEDULING:
I was looking to schedule my procedure ASAP, so i called the office and spoke to Angel. They had a cancellation and were able to fit me in that same week. YAY! I was so excited.
Before my apt I went online and looked at pics, videos, read reviews and almost everywhere i read that the waiting time is long and dr M doesnt spen much time with the patients. I was a little worried bc i had a million questions but to my relief my experience in the office for my first appointment was completely the opposite.
Yes i had to wait a little but when i did get to see the doctor he explained EVERYTHING in detail. From what he advised to what he didnt recommend vs what i thought i needed. Overall he was very realistic and wanted my expectations to be as such which i really appreciated.
i am 5’6” and weighed 145 lbs. I have a huge booty do he assured me i would look like a barbie doll once he got his hands on me.
I was beyond excited!
After this i met with Angel, the patient coordinator. She explained that the doctor was fully booked for when i wanted surgery but had an opening for a couple of weeks down, so i took it. Angel was so sweet, she explained everything in detail - recovery, surgery, extra costs. she did not rush through anything, I was worried bc i am slim and only wanted to remove fat in stubborn areas like my thighs and lower back - so she brought in one of the girls that had the procedure done. WOW - she looked amazing and i was sold.
My initial quote was $8500 and she brought it down to $7500
this was for lipo of legs, thighs, back, and above the knee.
I booked my surgery that same day and couldnt wait to get it all over with.
A week passed and i guess from all the anxiety i started dropping weight :(( i dropped about 10 lbs so during my preop i asked the nurse if i should still go through with the procedure. She was very helpful and had me speak to (whom i believe is dr. mendieta’s wife) again she put me at ease telling me all he was doing was fine-tunning. My case was different bc he wasnt making me skinny he was molding me and perfecting my body. I asked to meet with the doctor and was scheduled right away to see him in two days.
During that visit dr. mendieta explained the same thing. We added a few more areas since i had lost some weight (bra line and some arms) and i decided to do a partial fat transfer to the bottom of my booty to give it a rounder more smooth shape and also to my lips. This was an extra $2000 - for a total cost of $9500 (remember other costs associated like garments about $600, labs and tests about $300, and meds, pads etc about $300 as well)
my surgery was in 4 days!
DAY OF SURGERY.
i was scheduled at 8:30 - when i arrived i waited a bit (most probably bc they were still working on the first case) but after a few minutes was brought in by the nurse (which was so sweet and funny) she had me change into a gown and wait for Dr. Mendieta. I explained i was scared of IVs so she told me she would wait until the end to start it and even asked me where i preferred it (so sweet) once the iv was i didnt even feel it.
Then Dr Mendieta came in and drew all over me and took a million pictures.
After this the anesthesiologist saw me. He was also very calm in his demeanor which made me feel secure and put me at ease. His whole staff was so genuine - the would make me laugh, answer all questions. Not once was i nervous or felt like i was in a chop house, they made me feel like my concerns were theirs.
After this i went into the OR. They wash your entire body with a special liquid and ask you to lay down on the surgical table. After laying down i dont remember ANYTHING. It was lights out for me.
When i woke up i was greeted by the same nurse that first saw me. She told me i had done great and my mom was on her way to get me. Asked me if i wanted juice or water, idk why i had to pee but she informed me that i had a catheter in that was draining my bladder. Ewww the thought creeped me out and i thought i was feeling fine, so i asked her to remove it and let me go to the BR on my own. She was hesitant but did and walked me over to the BR.
Bad idea, although i was able to use it as soon as i got up i felt super light headed and passed out. Another nurse came and helped her. They gave me some juice and joked with me. My mom arrived and they helped me get in the car and i went home.
That first day i dont remember much, i was in and out of a daze due to the anesthesia and all the medications. I do remember my lips being SUPER swollen and i kept asking and praying that they would not stay this way lol.
I had to get up a lot to use the bathroom (they use they IV to hydrate you so your body needs to flush all of that out) and since my stubborn butt asked them to remove the catheter i had to physically get up everytime. This sucked specially at night but my mom was great in helping me.
I had zero apetite and didnt eat just drank a lot of coconut water.
The next day i had my post op apt. I felt like hell! i was so weak and the smell and thought food made me nauseous. Everything was SO sore and although i only had one drain (like a little tail poking out of my booty) it was draining a lot and smelled yucky. Everytime i tried to get up i would get sooo dizzy and feel like passing out, SO the nurse told my mom i needed to eat. Even if i didnt feel like it - a high protein diet was extremely important for a speedy recovery. LOL. she told me i needed to eat a big steak :P
Days 3 and 4 i also felt very weak but i tried to eat more. chicken soup, some fish, and lots of coconut water. But i started getting a low fever and really bad headaches. I was in and out of a daze bc of all the medications and the whole laying on my stomach SUCKS! But i am pleased to say that everytime we called the office with some concerns they quickly helped us and advised us on what to do. They even suggested i come in for some IV therapy if i felt that weak but HECK NO! i would much rather eat that steak the nurse talked about.
DAY 5:
another follow up at the office, this time to take out my sutures. I must say this was not at all painful. but i did have to lay down bc standing up makes me feel like i am going to pass out. after the nurse removed the sutures dr Mendieta came in. He was brief but with surgery and all the patients he has to see this is understandable. As long as i look like a barbie when this is all over, i will not mind his briefness at all :P
he took out a total of 2 liters ( i was a little disappointed bc i was told the max was 4) but they all laughed at me and said “from where” so it put me at ease. He injected 400cc into my booty which isnt much but he said i didnt need anything else and this will help give me the shape i wanted. I asked him about my lips which look like two balloons and he reassured me the swelling will be down and i will love the results.
EVERYONE in the office is so sweet. i wanted to give them all a hug before leaving but im still draining from my booty and i dont think i have enough energy for all that hugging :P i would probably have passed out :P
SERIOUSLY, recovery is NO FUN. i feel like i’ve been hit by a truck but its only been 5 days and i know it will get easier from now on. I try to walk a little more, force myself to eat and follow all the instructions given to me by the staff.
Right now i am SUPER swollen and black and blue so i cant see results just yet, but i now i have to be patient and i will love the outcome once everything is settled and i am feeling better!
will update in a few days.
They remove this annoying tail drain on Monday and i am SO excited about it!
Ok ladies hope this helped will upload pics in a few - feeling a little weak after writing all of this!
