Painful As Hell! - Miami, FL

ORIGINAL POST

Dear sisters, all the reviews you read that...

Dear sisters, all the reviews you read that describe pain will NOT prepare you for the real deal. I believe myself to have high pain tolerance level. This surgery is no joke! And to think that it's elective?! Having said this, I was informed and our forums here to give an idea what to expect. The most uncomfortable aspect has trying to sleep comfortably. Placing a small pillow wedge just under the tummy to tilt you slightly backwards without laying on your butt has helped. I had planned for this since last year. It wasn't 7-months later however that I did it out of the whim. The timing was 'right' as there was never going to be a better time, I don't think. Back to pain, on a scale of 1-10, this is a 10. Remember, it's all subjective but for me, it's a 10. I'll post pics soon as I can't take any of my own just yet.

Omg just had my sx on Thursday and I agree about the pain! I'm a surgical nurse I assist in liposuction I understood the type of pain but grossly underestimated the pain involved in general anesthesia.

Well I would but taking the garment off is too painful!! Also I'm super swollen! My butt looks nice tho!!! It will be worth it I'm sure!!!!

Fisher was also my doctor. When I turn or sit up I get this sharp burn???? I believe it's a nerve response but anyway it really hurts. Now on day 3 so I'm just mostly sore!! Especially my butt!

I don't have pics yet. It's difficult to take them but hope to soon. I know that we need to see what we're up against and the evolution of our results. I'll share that I gained 19 pounds; perhaps more than I needed. I'm optimistic that once I get to my comfortable weight of 111 - 114, my results will for sure show. For now, I'm going to shower and see the MD tomorrow. Will share pics then.

Hello I'm scheduled for surgery with Dr Mendieta for May 11th! So getting very close….now I'm really scared about the pain after reading your post. I have tried to prepare myself but I know nothing will. Can you give me any pointers or tell me what hurts so bad??

Hi KC - I Had lipo 10 years ago, and while it's not a walk in the park, it was definitely well within the range of what I could endure. It makes sense that it would be different for everybody, but if you think about it, you're going to be on some strong narcotics for the first few extra days and you'll be sleeping plenty, so it's not like you're experiencing raw pain. When you do experience the downside (and there's plenty - pain, blood, bruising, swelling, holes in your skin that ooze, not to mention nausea, feeling faint, stomach upset from pain pills .... It's not pretty... But, you just think about how good your going to look and it makes it much more bearable. If it's not, you let your doctor know and they'll adjust your meds. You just have to be a tough cookie and stick it out. Be brave - and don't be afraid... it's so worth it!!! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this to me. You are exactly right. I have never had surgery beyond getting my tonsils removed so this is a big deal for me. I literally have not been sleeping a wink thinking about this surgery. I have asked quite a few people to be more specific and they never respond, so I'm glad you have given me some positive insight. I just can't fathom what it will feel like after the surgery, some say its like taking a beating and others say a hard workout x10. Anyways thank you for your response it really does help :)

Hi KC, it's kinda like this - have you ever banged into something and gotten a reeeeeaaaaallly big dark purple bruise? Well, wherever you have surgery will feel like that... So, your entire leg will hurt. For me, It was never a screaming out in pain kinda thing, it's like you move and remember the pain (or, rather, the pain reminds you) and your think "oh $#[%!!" Day one and two, the pain meds help a lot. You'll sleep a lot. If you react to the the pain pills like they did me, they'll make you really barfy, so after a while you'll decide it's time to put your big girl panties in and wean off of those. The first time you go to take a shower, you'll get super dizzy and feel like your going to pass out, so be careful. As soon as I could, I got up and started walking. I think that helped the blood flow and helped me to heal... I also massaged my skin, trying to help increase the blood flow. Now, seems like everyone is going for lymphatic drainage massage, which seems like a worthwhile expense. Send me a PM and ask me anything you want :)

Dear KC, not sure why my reply didn't take. I said that Stephy is spot on. To answer your question about pointers, the best I can say is to take your pain medication around the clock as prescribed. Eat well, drink fluids (I have not done this and should be/have been). The pain for is is best described as an extreme soreness. I think the workout x10 is a good description. Have you ever worked out your legs and butt and two days later couldn't even sit to pee? It's that sort of pain. But, again, the pain medication will help. Since you'll be on your tummy, don't eat foods high is citric acid, such as tomato anything, BBQ sauce, etc. It will just come up and upset your throat. For sleeping, the best thing to use is a body pillow. Double it. Put it on your bed and straddle it. Have a soft head pillow for your face. Don't be scared when you wake up swollen and looking like a chipmunk. It will go away around day 5. You're in good hands. Read all the information sent to you by the coordinator. You'll need to sign those forms during your pre-op so again, be sure to read them. That in and of itself will make you feel relaxed and reassured they know what they're doing and, they do. Do you have your faja all ready to go? By one that is at least two sizes larger. For example, I gained up to 130 pounds. I bought three garments: 116 - 130 lbs, 131-150 lbs (one I left surgery center with), and 151-170. The large one was an afterthought because once I put on foam pads, I needed the extra room. I would say at a minimum buy one size larger than where you are now. Hope this helps.

Steph, yes that makes complete sense. I am also the type to get sick on pain meds, but I see what your saying about a combination of everything makes the recovery so bad not just pain. I just wanted to hear from someone who had experienced this and what they meant exactly but you answered it! Thank you so much for answering my questions! My Pre-op is this monday, so I may PM you if I have anything else. Thank you :)
April 22, 2015
Beth, yes I know exactly how that feels because I have tried to build me a booty before and I was so sore lol. That is the one thing I have told myself is that I will take my pain meds round clock regardless if I feel I need it at the moment because I want to stay ahead of the pain. Also that is a great idea about the body pillow…I never thought about that. Where did you get yours? No I do not have a faja yet, my pre-op is Monday morning but I will look into getting 2. A faja and a garmet are the same thing correct

For the life of me, I can't find the lady's name where I bought my garments. But, you'll find her at the Miami International Mall. The address is: 1455 NW 107the Ave, Doral, Florida. Enter off of the food court entrance. Andrea is her name and she has a small Kiosk. There are two other places, one is a store front. I went to the store front nearest Old Navy. Stay away! Their producet is poor, expensive, and services sucks! Andrea, while she has a small kiosk right at the hallway leading to, or away from the food court, will treat you well. Her prices are right! The garment will cost you $89 or $99 with sleeves, if I remember correctly. Wheresas if you get it at the MD's office, you'll pay $150 for no sleeves and $250 with sleeves (If you get your arms done). Buy two one size larger than you are now. I bought a third at my normal weight (once I lose these pounds and swelling...I'm usually at 111-114). The mall is West of Mendieta's office. You'll have plenty of time to pick them up before your surgery. Traffic is awful around Miami and Dr. Mendieta's office. Try to go to and out of the mall, by 1:00. You can save money and just double up your head pillows. But if you want to purchase one, I got mine on Amazon. Be sure to ask Dr. Mendieta's staff to put a pad on your abdomen. Your garment has to be large enough to fit it or they won't be able to. Therefore remember, one size larger. Finally, I bought a booty pillow for driving. I used it today and I'm just 6 days post op. I had not choice. It works by keeping your butt off of the car seat. I'll post a pic. It was $99 dollars. If you're flying in, bring it so you can use in on the plane. I think it will help.
April 24, 2015
Thank you so much! This is great information, I will definitely go to the mall and see Andrea to get 2 garments! I appreciate everything and I'm sure I will have some pictures up soon! You look great in your pictures, just very bruised on your chest. Did you have your arms done? I'm just thinking about wether or not I want to tell him thats a priority area.
April 26, 2015
I didn't have my arms done. I bought it just in case though. Since I gained 19 lbs overall, he had enough fat from my gut, flanks, lower back. IF you want your arms done, be sure to specify it. He'll do it I'm sure. Also, since his quote says multiple areas, arms should be included. If however you workout and like them when you lose weight (I like mine when I'm thin), I'd leave them alone. You'll use your arms quite a bit to help yourself up from bed, and move around in general. May not be worth a aching there as well. Just a thought.
April 26, 2015
Stephy, are you going for another round?
April 27, 2015
Yeah thats what I'm not sure of if I even want to do my arms. I am going to ask him tomorrow at my pre-op. I'm just afraid if I lost weight in order to get my arms thinner I may loose my new butt lol. We'll see what he says tomorrow :)

Hi sisters, a few pics from post op day three plus a few recommendations. First, I thought I asked to go to town on my back. I still see rolls and my back rather untouched. Hmmm. Will have to ask him why. Granted, because this is not my normal weight and I do work out, I know I won't have the rolls once I get on my workout regimen. I think I'll be fine but, if do remember to ask exactly for what you'd like done. For example, I was sure to ask to get the fat pocket under the breasts. You can see he did that thought I'm not sure why my boobs are so bruised? They were so frinking perky when I walked out that my BF loved them. Anyway, the front pic has too many shadows as my tummy is not that lumpy. However, I did go up one size on my 2nd garment to give myself breathing room and also apply a foam pad on my abdomen. I see the doc Friday so I'll take new pics then. Also, I might have a lymphatic massage so that should help smooth out my skin. Skin turgor is key so, if you already have loose skin, it will show even more. Just keep that in mind. Sleeping was better by straddling a body pillow. I doubled it up so I was off the bed with my knees on the bed. Use a soft head pillow for your face. You'll be able to sleep much better if you do this rather than lying flat on the bed. To save money, double head pillows and straddle them. They'll work just as well. Diapers, you'll only need four at the most. Don't bring a whole bundle. Also, save money on chuck pads. The office suggested I buy a plastic shower curtain at the dollar store, and towels to go on top. We had one large plastic bag which we cut open, then used small plastic bags underneath towels. I've yet to open my chucks pad. Since the blood has quite a bit of water, it will wash off rather well from the towels. Another thing I did was place a small plastic trash bag underneath my clothes between my garment, and my blouse. Since I had to lay flat on the back seat of the car and didn't want to get my clothes bloody, it worked like a charm. Since he obviously didn't go to town on me, I stopped leaking from any incision on day two. I drove today for the first time. Perhaps a bit early but I had to to go get food. The BBL Pillow (google it, you'll find at Pila Port Creations) worked like a charm. Finally, I can't find the phone number of the lady I bought my garments from, once in Miami. But, her name is Andrea and she has a small kiosk inside the Miami International Mall. Her kiosk is the passageway leading to, or away from the food court, which is next to Macy's. The price for the garments are $89 with no sleeve, and $99 with sleeves, compared to $150 to $250 at the MDs office. Stay away from store that also sells garments near Old Navy. The quality is poor, service bad, and prices high.

thank you so much for sharing this information. Its something new that i havent read yet and im glad u went in depth about ways to sleep!!
April 26, 2015
It will help, Elle. After about a week, you'll be more comfy laying on the bed with a pillow wedged just under the abdomen for support. It will let you tilt just slightly to give your stomach a break from laying directly on it.

I'm glad you liked your outcome so far... I had mine done on April 17th and have not stop crying because I don't see any difference in my butt..he keeps saying once the swelling goes down I'll see a difference... I haven't written a review yet or post before or after pictures just yet because I'm trying to be patient... He is a nice Dr but didn't give me what I asked for

I'm 11 days post op and I've lost 4 lbs of swelling. I feel better thought sleeping is still a challenge. I've tried on a few clothes and while I weigh 10 lbs now more than when I purchased them, I actually fit in them comfortably. Weird. They fit better and I do see curves. Just hope my butt is fluffy in the end. Anyway, I wanted to share one other tidbit that will HELP a lot with the swelling in your labia. Since the garments are tight, and there is an opening at the labia, the labia can swell and be painful. This happened to me. One side was hurting and when I inspected, it was swollen and hard. You do wear a diaper while your drains are still in but, that's not enough to support your labia. What I did helped tremendously so I thought to share. Either use a heavy Kotex, or cut out the pad part from a diaper. Put it inside your garment so your labia rests on it. Pull you garment, at the bottom, over the pad to hold it in place. Your labia will thank you. Wish I had figured this out, or had the doctors office say something about this. There is a HUGE gap in post-op care education for patients. I see that all over the place in this forum. Anyway, hope this helps someone.
