"Severe Iching" on Top of Scalp After Eyebrow Lift!

ORIGINAL POST

I had my face lift August 2013 and had a brow lift...

I had my face lift August 2013 and had a brow lift. It is four months later and for the past two months, I have had non-stop itching of the scalp. I have lost almost half of the hair on my head because I can't stop scratching. The worst itching is in the area of where the endotine fixation post were placed. I have lumps and bumps on my head from these fixation posts. I am so miserable that I have to take Benadryl, a muscle relaxer, and zanex in the evening after I get off of work just to calm down. My scalp stays sore from scratching. I have sores on my head and it burns when I wash my hair. I have tried everything for the itching and nothing works. I put ice packs on my head and it helps some, but I can't wear ice on my head at work. I am driving my co-workers crazy from scratching my head all day at work. My plastic surgeon did not tell me that I would have these side effects when we discussed my surgery. I am somewhat happy with how I look from the face lift, but I thought I would look much younger and some people have not noticed a change at all. I am very depressed and miserable all the time because of the itching. I sometimes think about suicide because I don't want to live like this. I would not recommend anyone to have a brow lift, It is not worth it!!

Oh no! I am really feeling for you. I have scalp itching for other reasons (hormonal I think). After years of trying different supplements, shampoos, etc., the only thing that helps me is the topical steroid Clobetasol. You should ask your doctor if that might help you. If he doesn't respond, go to a dermatologist to get this figured out. Please keep us posted! I want you to get this itching under control as it sounds so miserable :(

I had the lift too and am insanely itchy. I scratched so much I developed what is probably a fungal infection and all the treatments in the world do not cure it. Use Clobetasol, ketoconazol, muscle relaxers, xanax, you name it. The itch goes on!! I had beautiful long blonde hair but had to cut it very short because it was damaged from all the medications and was impossible to comb anymore. I like the results of the lift but wish I had known about this ravaging itching in advance.

My head is still itchy after 10 years...
March 5, 2015
My head was UNBEARABLY itchy after trichophytic browlift too, just like the OP. It was like 1000 bees attacking my scalp. I would wake up with dents in my head and bloody fingernails from clawing at my scalp while sleeping. What truly worked for me was Neurontin (aka gabapentin), my surgeon prescribed it when I told him about the itching, he said it usually works. Gabapentin is usually used for nerve pain from shingles, but it worked great on browlift itching, used as needed for many months. It was a huge relief. The itching eventually became less and less over time and now (9 years later) my scalp gets a little itchy when I'm very tired or stressed, but not unbearably so and no medication needed. I absolutely love the result now that recovery is long over, but because of the itching it was the hardest of all my surgeries to recover from.

Also wanted to add: the surgeon said this is not something that can be treated with topicals or treated by a dermatologist (unless you get a secondary infection from scratch wounds). It is nerve pain and skin treatment won't help. Scratching doesn't help either because the itching/pain isn't coming from the skin surface.

I had a face lift and a forehead lift two years ago by a reputable surgeon. I have nerve damage on the top of my head. The itching is maddening. I can identify with all of your misery including hair loss. I have tried numerous drugs and other remedies to no avail. Currently I use ice and I take 1200 MGS of Gabapentin every 6 hours. Thought I am not itch free it, helps tremendously.

The PS won't tell the truth.l I had it done july 23, 2018. I shouldn't have got it done overseas. It is not cheap where I got it done. I went there for a high SMAS and then ended up doing a mini neck lift which I didn't need. I also done eye bags. I am still very swollen and numb all over the place. I started to itch 6 weeks post surgery and it is getting worst. When some of the swelling gone down last week 7 weeks post surgery I can feel the endotines under my skin. One I think is up on my scab with non skin covering it . I looked in the mirror and it is dark brown. I thought at first maybe it was from using the betadine to clean it. I went to a plastic surgeon more than a week ago and he told me it looks like a scab. He didn't touch it , but when I did touch it gently more and more, it felt like the endotine is on top of my scap with no skin covering it . I had always feel something hard on top of my head post op (1st 4 weeks) AND thought it was the tight of material they used to stitch me up. Before the swelling gone down some, I thought it maybe surgical threads that are very thick and hard. Just the past 1.5 weeks or so I realized what I felt the 1st 4 weeks was the endotines under my skin and I really think one of them is exposed. Today I am seeing a doctor to treat my necrosis. This doctor that done my plastic surgeyr is well aware of causing necrosis during High SMAS. Why doesn't he tell me this than I don't do it??? It is all about the money .
Right now I am seeing a lot of deeper wrinkles all over my cheeks that I didn't have before PS. My laugh line looks worst than before . What did I get out of High SMAS, bad skin necrosis. The other thing I discovered only 2 weeks ago because I cannot see the side of my face that good is he didn't make the incision lines along the whole ear lobe area. On the lower ear near the ear lobe the incision line is about 1/4 of cm. Who wants that??? Also I had to get my endotine stiches remove in the USA. After 14 days it didn't heal well, so they told me wait another 5 days. They know I will be flying back to usa. Why didn't the PS told me the average time it takes??? I read it is usually longer than 14 days. Some listed as can take up to a month to remove foreheadlift stitches.
PS don't tell, they just want your money and I didn't get after care which is really important.
Also when I was still there for the entire 16 days. Iwas there 2 days before surgery, they told me they can do the cleaning for me if I go into the clinic. I stayed at a hotel within 3 minutes walk. No kidding. I went in. They did nothing for me. One of the lady just took me into a room. Used saline solution quickly to clean the front of the ears and that is it. I have incisions in the back too, along the inside of my hair above my ear. I done high SMAs. I also have them on my head . She didn't clean those............................ What a scam this place is. I am itching starting a few days ago really bad on my head, all over the ear area. I still have those burning pain from my cheeks, then I feel a deep pull around my ear area ............... It is all about PS wanting money and don't til u aobut what can happen. Mine knew about Skin necrosis happens all the time with him doing high smas.......... He didn't tell me...............I look like [RS bleep] now. The PS I saw more than a week ago told me that is low percentage get Necrosis but this PS that done my surgery is well aware of my change of getting it which is high................ I am not a smoker. I told him to be conservative and he didn't He pulled my skill extremely tight cuasing me to get death of my skin. It outweight the benefit as far as I can see. I feel light [RS bleep]. I been in hiding for the past 8 weeks. What is this ps thinking. Some people have to work. But I don't work, I am a stay at home mom. Planning on to find a job since my youngest is old enough now...... Now I am not presentable. My PS is super red flag especially with that lower ear lobe scar. Ladies we need to spread the word of these kind of [RS bleep] that PS aren't telling others.
I am bald in front of my head do to the forehead lift. I have bad scars that I can see already. The nurse took out one of the endontine stitch. If they knew I was not ready why didn't they stitch me back up??? Because they are too business working on new patience or doing new consulations and ignore those that have paid already and had surgery done.......... Anyway I was bleeding on the plane and didn't know it. It was the endontine stitch they removed no one told me my forhead had blood runing down my face until I gone to the airplane restroom.................... The bottom line is these people don't care. I am heading home to usa . That wound looks horrible. If they are descent people they(the nurse or doctor) could have stitched me back up. They said my wounds didn't heal good and have to wait. 5 more days............

Eyebrow lift causing severe problems!

Unhappy camper2
Well, I am back. My scalp is still itching so bad, I feel like shaving all of my hair off and ask my doctor to give me several shots to my scalp to make it completely numb! I have lost so much of my long hair. It use to be thick and healthy. Now it is stringy, shorter and falling out by the handfuls everyday. I hate that I let my looks control my life and let a plastic surgeon give me an eyebrow lift which he placed (indotine fixation posts) that are hard plastic objects that were screwed into my scalp to lift my brows and eliminate forehead wrinkles. That is pretty barbaric if you ask me! It hurts... it's bumpy, uncomfortable and my scalp itches non-stop. No one should live like this! If I had known about the side effects of a brow lift procedure, I would have never agreed to this! Do your homework ladies! Don't do this! It is the worst pain and discomfort you will ever experience!

Yes Ladies! This is a side effect of a brow lift. I had one ten years ago and my scalp still itches. Not as much as in the beginning but it still itches often. My scalp will tell me when it is going to rain. Any slight pressure to the scalp makes it itch bad. Tweeting my eyebrows makes it itch. I did not know that would happen either. I'm very sure it is a permanent nerve damage problem. Meds and other remedies do not work. Seeing a dermatologist is a waste of time and money. They have no clue. Massaging can help some. I am very happy with my results as well but I have been through a lot as a result of the benefit.

I had 4 procedures done: high smas, minor neck lift, bag bags and forehead lift. So PS gave me a 400 usa discount. He charges 5K usd for it so I paid 4600 usd and this was done in Taipei, Taiwan. I regreted it. My Ps I felt didn't do the best he can. I have no hair in the front of my head. I still don't look like myself. My whole face still swollen. I am itching pretty badly the past week more and more so than ever. PS don't tell the truth or the method they are using. there are a total of 3 or 4 different methods of doing forehead lifts. He told me endotine but didnt tell me that he will roll my skin which gives me a bump on the front of my head. why do he need to do that? He told me it is a holistic way of doing it right . What??? It is a easier way to hide his horrible surgery is the real reason why he rolled up my skin and left my completely bald in front of my head..................... Anyone wanna see the pics , send me personal emails. Thanks

I do a apple cider vinegar and water soak with a wash rag just lying on my forehead for about 5 minutes, it seems to help.

This doctor deserves 0 starts! Your gold was to be happy with final results, does it matter if he have nice bed manners or time spend with you??? be honest! if you having so many issues yelp a bad review and make a YouTube video with his bad job! He needs to know we ( patients matter) to wake him up and do something serious about it ( solution),, with all respect for you:)

It is very hard to find a good PS that really care.
They just want the money and some don't even care especially for those that go abroad to get PS which I did. big mistake....................... What I paid in total I could have got it done here plus I will have the after care . Now I have to paid out for after care and it is very pricey in the sf bay area. Also one doctor told me it can take several years to take care of necrosis that caused my skin discoloration................... I never knew about necrosis from PS and also I didn't know of the different methods of forehead/brow lift either. I will wait another 10 months and see if my endotine will disolve or not . But I do feel there is one sitting outside of my skin . I also believe it was like that while I was till aboard and they know it and just ignored it. I can feel everything on it so it is probably exposed. It is brown coloring.

I am 18 months post op from having a brow lift, my itching is almost gone, I was miserable up until about 14 months post op. Give it time, it will go away. Do not scratch your head, message it, I got relief from using a mint shampoo, it tingles and feels really good, I also, found that putting conditioner on and leaving it on for an hour or longer helped. Hang in there.

I'm sorry that you are having additional problems, my doctor did not use any screws, just stitching, as far as I know.
