I had silicone implants placed on top of the muscle in 1975, they were done in the UK. I then had two children and breast fed them both. In 1994 I went back to the UK as they were ruptured and hard. Silicone was not banned in the UK so I travelled there to have them replaced. A mass of cells on the left breast was removed at the time. The biopsy came back clear. Over the past 20 years as my body has changed with age I always felt they looked hideous but couldn’t imagine what I would be left with if they were removed, so I just carried on as usual. However the right breast became very hard and I was uncomfortable with my appearance and also when I hugged anyone I felt I had a brick on my chest.
I knew there was something going on in the right breast as I often felt pain and discomfort into the arm pit.
After reading about fat grafting and spending hours researching I came across a Dr. Khoobehi in Metairie, just outside New Orleans. I traveled to see him for an initial free consolation in early 2015 I believe it was.
I was very impressed with Dr. Khoobehi and his gentle manner and the way in which everything was explained.
I had planned to have the surgery in the Spring of 2015 but was competing in the Senior Games and qualified for Nationals so decided to wait until after the events. As it turned out I did not travel to the Nationals as I couldn’t commit to the rigorous training routine. So I decided to do this procedure in the late Fall. There were many events that came rolling along that changed things including being hit by a car in November when I was cycling. It took me almost 7 months to recover and feel comfortable with scheduling the surgery.
I drove to Metairie for the pre-op and Dr Khoobehi explained the procedure and what I could expect. I had little breast tissue to place the fat into but at this point I was so ready to get rid of these hideous looking implants.
Seeing the photos that were taken reconfirmed what I had thought for a long time. On Friday June 24th I went into the surgery center and was really nervous but knew once I was under the anesthetic it would be over before I knew it.
I left the surgery center wearing a compression garment, compression socks and drain tubes. I went to bed and stayed there for most of the day. I took pain meds for the first day only and admit I was scared to look at what was there! On day two I was up and moving around and peeked inside my bra. I was pleasantly surprised! I had a cleavage and some breasts! The biggest shock was feeling soft tissue again after 40 years of hard rocks!
There was a small amount of Lipo done to create a cleavage and increase the breast tissue so I was in a compression garment for a week and now I will wear Spanx and a sports bra to help the skin to tighten a little.
During the procedure a large mass was removed from the right breast and axillary glands and that was sent for biopsy. There has been a hard gland under my arm that should have been removed 20 years ago with the second implants. I am thankful the mass was just silicone that had had oozing into the ducts.
Stitches came out and I couldn’t be happier about having done this. I wish I had found Dr Khoobehi years ago and done this. My breast are now age appropriate at 67 and I look normal again.
I cannot thank Dr Khoobehi enough as I feel so liberated from these implants and I finally have my real body back again. Next week I will begin with exercise and weights again to rebuild the muscle mass I have lost over the past 7 months. Also I will add on a few pounds of fat!
Dr Khoobehi and his staff were wonderful. The staff at the surgery center were excellent and it was very reassuring as I lay waiting to go in for the surgery.
The fact the fat grafting and implant removal was done at the same time was a blessing.
I would highly recommend this wonderful doctor and his staff. I cannot thank him enough.

Congratulations. You must be so relieved to have rocks out. I cannot wait to see your result. How long was your surgery? I have had same implants since age 21 and know they should be removed. I am age 57. I hope to do it this winter.
Good luck and keep us posted. GRAM1

I'll post some after pics in a few days if I can figure out how to edit my post, I am so thrilled to be free of these things. I will post pics of the implants too... Geez...I cant believe those things were in my body and the silicone was leaking into the breast tissue. The surgery was about 3 hours or less. I had lipo then the implants were removed. The recovery time has amazed me. I still have some tenderness in the Lipo areas and where the scar is but I went back into the gym this morning and will start swimming tomorrow. You have had yours a long time and who knows what they are like. Mine was rock hard and ruptured. Just do it, you wont regret it. They have served their time and are way past the expiration date!!

Hello Renmart, thanks for sharing your story. It's great to hear that you are happy having the implants out. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it, too, but every day I waffle one way or the other. I'm certain I should explant, then I'm too afraid of the outcome. I don't have any health problems at all from the implants and they are very soft. But I'm 63 and a runner, and I do want to be age-appropriate, like you said! It's just so obvious the women who have implants and I don't want to be that woman. Thanks for sharing your story. Please keep us posted and post pictures when you feel comfortable.

I will post after pictures when I get settled back home. I drove from La to CO. and have recently moved so I focused on unpacking etc. I actually went back to the gym this morning and tomorrow plan to start a swim routine again. I am so relieved these things are OUT. I haven't liked mine for many years and was always self conscious lying on the beach! I keep touching them as its 40 years since I had soft breasts and I actually remember what they felt like. I just love it.

Sadly I didn't spend much time in NO . It was so hot and humid and I was in a compression garment and very restless! Next time when I go back for a check up.

Thank you so much for telling your story. I have had my implants since 1975 and like you my right side is hard as a rock! I told myself I would never go under a knife again. I had a scare when I felt something on my right side of my breast, about the size of a pea. I had an MRI and they discovered my right breast had ruptured but it was imcapsulated and there is no problem. I had my breast surgery in Honolulu and the doctor is retired. I have no idea if they are silicon or saline. All I know is I want them out but I am scared.

Find the right doctor and you will be fine. I cannot tell you the difference this has made to me. I was really scared for a month before and once i was in the clinic I had to let go of that and remind myself I will be asleep and it'll be over before I knew it. I was scared to peek at my chest but felt such a relief at getting rid of the bricks I had had stuck to my chest for so long. Fat transfer added more cost but it was all done at the same time. Well worth every penny.

They are probably silicone as the whole implant would have deflated if it were saline. Take them out as soon as you can. You won't regret it. This is your future health at stake.

!2 days after explant

Renmart
The explant was done on June 14th. I am now on day three of a swimming routine. I feel so good. There is still some tenderness in some areas where the fat was taken and also along the incision lines on the breasts but I am functioning with day to day activities without any problems. I have to say when I swim back stroke my buoyancy has changed and I have had to adapt to a new center of gravity! I am so happy I am free and my body is my own again.

Implants removed on June 24th not 14th.

Hi I'm considering having the same procedure with Dr. Khoobehi, except that I have saline implants. I'm on the fence about whether I should just have them removed or do that fat transfer at the same time, so I'm extremely interested in your results. Do you feel you have retained a lot of the fat so far? How is the liposuction areas and scars? Are they obvious scars or hidden?

Also did he have to do any additional incisions to remove the mass under your arm? I'm only asking because I have a lump under each arm that I am concerned about. I have been to a breast specialist who felt them and believes they are enlarged breast tissue. But I was thinking maybe since I'm have surgery anyway, he could just check it out for me but I wouldn't bother is its an additional incision.

You look fantastic. So much better than with implants
