I am a 66 year old man and after many years of weight gain and loss, I finally got to a weight that was healthy and I was happy with and have maintained that weight for several months. Looking in the mirror showed rolls of old skin. After a lifetime of never believing I would even consider cosmetic surgery, I decided that I would investigate the procedure. Met with the staff at Clevens Face and Body and received complete explanation of the procedure. After considering for a few days I called back and scheduled the surgery.
The day of the surgery, Dr. Ortega met with me prior to going into the operating room and reviewed what was going to happen. Excellent pre- and post-op instructions were provided. The procedure, I later found out, took about 4 1/2 hours. I don't even remember being put under! Total skin removed was 3.38 pounds -- which meant nothing to me until I finally visualized it. Take an 8-oz steak. Now make that 6 steaks and over 1/2 of a 7th steak! That's what 3.38 pounds looks like.
Before the procedure I found a video by a doctor in Miami Florida who made a video of the procedure for his patients. I was reluctant to watch it at first but because totally engrossed by what I saw. I was expecting to see a lot of blood and gore -- but there was none. With modern instruments, the site is cauterized as removed resulting in little to no blood. If you are thinking about this procedure, search the internet and you will find this and other videos. It is worth your time.
It's been 2 1/2 weeks and I still have my drains in place. They should come out next week on the 3 week anniversary of the surgery. The length you need to keep these drains varies from patient to patient. After the first week, I was given the green light to start wearing compression shirts instead of that L O N G wrap that goes from your lower abdomen to your lower chest! Much happier with the shirt!
The first couple of days were very stressful and had help in getting things done. By the third day, I was off medications and began to drive. The pain was very mild, considering. I did have a deep tissue pain medication injection which is well worth the money paid!
Be prepared to be down for at least 6 weeks before returning to physical activity. I am a gym rat and it is killing me to not be able to go there -- but all in due time. Another 2 weeks after that before I can resume getting massages!

All the staff were very helpful and were mindful of my needs. Dr. Ortega was very specific in the procedure, expected outcome, and healing time. I was very pleased with the minimum pain I suffered. Looking forward to getting my "thunder thighs" reduced late this year or early next year.
