WORTH IT$15,180
About 6-7 years ago, I walked out of the office of an ENT surgeon (he was the replacement for my retired plastic surgeon). He told me my nose had too much scar tissue and he wouldn't touch it. "The more surgery you have, the more it goes like leather, making it hard to operate on" he advised. "Besides, you dont want a nose like Michael Jackson!"
I burst into tears thinking I had no options left for my nose, which I would now have to put up with for the rest of my life. I'd had a surgery previous to that one when I was young, and as I grew older, I didn't like how my nose had changed - the tip looked like it was getting bigger and twisted. I was so excited to get it revised, but when I saw the end result, it looked better, but I was still disappointed. He didn't do a very good job of it.
I don't know what triggered me to look again a few months ago. I read something that gave me hope and I started searching. I asked a question on Realself, to find out if my nose could be made any better. I was beside myself at the positive replies, reassuring me I could get a good result.
So here I am, having booked a surgeon - but this time, one with extensive experience in revisions, reconstructions and aesthetics. I'm yet to read a bad word about him and feel very confident that if anyone can help me with a great result, it will be Mr. Greensmith.
The initial consultation was $300 due to a medical issue (he said 50% of the left side on my nose has collapsed, amongst other things). I was able to claim back about $72 from Medicare here in Australia. If it's for cosmetic reasons only, the fee will be $330.
I have private insurance, so the only hospital costs for surgery will be my excess of $500. I'm not sure how much it costs without insurance. I decided to stay overnight so I can get a good night sleep and not worry about my little one jumping on me in the middle of the night.
The surgeon's out of pocket fee is almost $16k. He anticipates the surgery will take 3.5-4 hours and I may need a rib graft.
The anaesthetist was around $2,700 out of pocket.
I'm also having a lateral/temporal brow lift at the same time - thought I would take advantage of the anaesthetic - it will only add 45 minutes to the surgery.
My surgery is 9 sleeps away - i'm both excited and nervous. I would have been more nervous if I didn't find so many wonderful reviews about my sugeon on another site. There aren't *loads* here but they're all glowing. I've not been able to find a bad review anywhere.
I'll update as much detail as I can, because this site has been SO helpful in my own journey. It's the reason I had hope that I could do it!
I've had nose problems for around 23 years. I'm ready to put this discomfort, stress and worry behind me. I'm looking forward to not even thinking about it any more.

4 days to go! Feeling nervous but optimistic :)

The days are flying past now. Two weeks has quickly turned into a few days. I have to be at the hospital at 6:30am so I will literally wake up and it'll be time.
I've included the morph from Mr Greensmith, it's a little pixely but it will be straight and smooth. I'm in love with it already, but of course, I know a revision can be unpredictable. I have totally realistic expectations and trust that he'll deal with whatever he finds as best he can. I think that's the most important thing going into a surgery like this. You have to absoutely trust your surgeon, having chosen them well with lots of research.
I've thrown in a couple more befores as well. I don't know how it got to this mess :( But just looking at them quells the anxiety, keeps me positive and looking forward to what's to come.

Today is the day! I'm so nervous.
Had to be at the hospital at 6:30am, it's almost 7:30am and i'm in my room, waiting for Mr Greensmith.
Although the nurse said I "might" see him before surgery. I hope so, I only saw him in one consult and it'd be nice to connect and confirm the plans. I trust his work fully but I'd still like to see him first.
Thankfully I have a private room. It's still dark outside (winter) so it feels strange.
I've packed Arnica M, Bromelain and Thios 6 (another homeopathic remedy for reducing scarring).
I'm staying overnight so hopefully all goes well and I wont feel too bad afterwards.

Haha right on cue, he came in as I hit submit!
So glad he came in, totally eased my nerves and biggest concern about a procedure.
He was also much more relaxed and smiling compared to last time. Felt more personal.
I'm much more relaxed and waiting for one person ahead of me who is having a small procedure.
Then i'm the main event he said
