Journey Not over Yet, but So Happy I Did This - Melbourne, AU

One year on
WORTH IT$15,000
It's already been a year since my jaw was surgically repositioned and I am constantly glad I did this.
When I see old photos I am shocked what I used to look like. How small my bottom jaw was. How much I NEEDED this surgery.
It has improved my self confidence.
I only have one lingering issue and that is a bit of numbness on my right side under my lip. It's a fuzzy feeling there. Not normal but it doesn't bother me at all. I still have to see my surgeon for the one year follow up but I am very pleased with the results.

Amazing. Very brave woman, but you must be happy with such well balanced results!
Thankyou
You look amazing!! I am considering undergoing this surgery but I am afriad of the pain & recovery. I have a very weak chin, my profile is very similar to how your's was. Did you need braces?
Hi
Don't let the fear of pain stop you. Honestly barely any pain. I was prescribed strong pain killers and took 3 doses only in the very beginning and mostly for a sore throat.
Yes you definitely need orthodontics before jaw surgery. I opted for Invisalign instead of braces which did the job for me. You see, they have to move your teeth into where they need to be when your jaw gets repositioned. So they actually make your bite much worse first. My teeth were straight by the time I was ready for surgery, but my front teeth didn't touch one another. That is to allow the space needed so that when they move your jaw, it's in the right position.
Anyway, it's certainly a big undertaking and also expensive even with health insurance but in my case I really wanted to fix my jaw cos it was a source of self consciousness for me. I couldn't be happier now that it's done. Good luck if you do go ahead!

I have an appointment the first week of January so we will see how it goes, I hope I'm a candiate for invisalign or lingual braces.. I work in customer service so I really don't want tradiational braces.. If you don't mind me asking how much did you spend?
Invisalign has cost about $7k and the surgery was about $7k out of pocket. I also had my 4 wisdom teeth and two molars removed at the same time which was an additional $3k
Wow, you look great! I'm having my lower jaw surgery this year sometime. Thanks for sharing your story :)
Sorry I haven't logged on here in ages!! Thanks for the compliment! Have you had your surgery yet? I'd love to hear how it went!
Hi, I had mine in March and it went well thanks :) I was expecting to end up with some numbness but was lucky. My surgeon didn't end up doing my chin as he thought I may have ended up with my jaw being too strong. I had to trust his judgement as he is very good at what he does. I'm not sure how different I look to the start? I know having my braces on made my profile worse over time (which I was told would happen) and I look better then just before the surgery. I think my face is better balanced and I don't dislike my profile in the Target change rooms as much anymore! So that's a plus and my teeth look really good. People haven't commented that much on the change but I think if they saw the before and afters they might. You are looking great xx
Hi, I have been wanting to have this surgery for ages but am really struggling to pick a surgeon. Did you plan your surgery with your surgeon digitally? Did they use custom titanium plates/screws? Any more info would be appreciated :) thanks

I decided to have jaw surgery around 18 months ago when I saw an orthodontist to see if I was a candidate for it. He agreed that I was and referred me to a surgeon who would work closely with him to get my bite where it should be.
My motivation for getting the surgery was my appearance. I had such a week lower jaw which gave me a rounded profile. I also didn't have enough chin visible under my bottom lip front on.
My teeth were mildly crowded

Thanks for sharing your journey with this community. Your results look amazing. How was the post-op recovery?
Thanks for that. Actually a lot easier than the blogs I have read. Not bad at all.
Hi, you look great! did you have double jaw surgery? i will be having my double jaw surgery next week and am very nervous!
Hey. Sorry I didn't see this already. I imagine you must be in recovery now. Hope it all went really well!!
Oh and no, I only had single jaw surgery. Just the lower jaw but double jaw was a possibility as I am a little gummy when I smile. I opted only to do lower though as it's not too bad.
Hello there, great to see that you're journey is going so well! I too am looking to undergo jaw surgery. I too live in Melbourne,AU. Could you tell me me where you went to get yours? Thanks
Hi. Thanks for the compliment.
I went to Smile Solutions on Collins st. I would certainly recommend them. The combo of my orthodontist Dr Martin Poon and my surgeon Dr Patricia Bordbar have been beyond amazing.
