I came across this website a few months ago when I was still uncertain of whether I was going to get my implants removed. After seeing all the love, support and knowledge shared amongst this community, I have decided to confidently go ahead with the procedure. I will be posting photos sharing my experience to continue to spread the support.
My implants story: I got them when I was 20, insecure, slim, wanted to be curvier and feel more "sexyyy", I had a lot of issues with my self image. My boob size was originally an A. The procedure went fine, at the beginning I had increased anxiety because they felt extremely foreign but I never had any physical issues with my implants and I enjoyed having them for the most part. Fast forward 6 yrs, I am now 25 and have a greater sense of self, I no longer abuse my body and have filled out quite a lot. Naturally this has taken its toll on the implants, they are starting to feel heavy and giving me pain in my back/shoulders, I can't wait to have my natural body back so I can jump around and hug people and not always having to cover up! I've decided to go back to my original surgeon Dr Alan Breidahl, as I was happy with the job he did on the implants. My big question so far is how do you know if your silicone implants are leaking or ruptured? I've noticed lately my right boob sometimes hurts, slight burn but it goes away, not sure if it's just because there growing (due to weight gain) and How do they exactly rupture? Is it common for the new implants made in 2009 to rupture? Thanks xoxox

I had a double mastectomy with reconstruction. Wish I hadn't. The surgeon was used to doing "boob jobs" but not reconstructions. It's been 9 year and I would kill to have these awful things removed but we now have no insurance and no funds. Sometimes I wonder if I could just take them out myself, that's how awful they are. Enjoy your natural body. Boobs are nothing in the realm of real life.

Hi!! It could be a rupture, when will you have your surgery? It very well could be your body craving you to take them out, I know a month before my surgery my left breast really started to ache and burn. Will you do a mammogram before your surgery? I believe that may be a good way to see if they are ruptured...wishing you the best of luck!! Congratulations on your decision to remove...you will be sooo happy and feel much better!! :)

Thanks FeelingFree! I definitely agree that my
Body wants them out! I was planning on getting them out in March but now I'm thinking much sooner in December. Did you have any ruptures? I haven't considered a mammogram but I think I will now! Thanks for ur support :) xox

Support is what we are here for :)...my pleasure!! That will be wonderful to have them out sooner as opposed to later....I did not have any ruptures thankfully....I believe you may want to have mammogram just to be safe, my PS did require a mammogram before the explant. Congrats again!!! We are all here for you!! XOXO

Hi, I'm in Perth, had mine out a few weeks ago (you can see my pics etc). My PS had me have an ultrasound before the procedure (I don't believe in mammograms). Have you asked your PS what he recommends?

Congratulations on your decision that explant! I have saline so not sure how to answer the potential leak question. Mine are 21 years later old (saline) with no leakage or encapsulation. Although over the last year have noticed pain in my left breast and definite warm sensation. Also my arms fall asleep if I sleep on my side. So happy to get these heavy and huge fake blobs off my chest! You are scheduled in four months. Are you waiting that long for a reason? I am 5 days away! Can't wait! ❤️❤️
October 25, 2015
Wow! 5 days, that must be exciting for you! Good on you for making the couragous decision! I was thinking 4 months away so I could save up a bit of extra cash as we're also looking to buy property atm ( I haven't officially booked the date yet). But seeing everyones trueself without implants, makes me want to get it done sooner then later, I'm thinking of booking in for December now :) Thanks for your comment! All the best with your surgery and recovery! :)

No more pain in boobs

Pyk26
Hey guys it's been a couple of months and I've increased my fitness levels and no longer feel any pain in boobs so don't think its a rupture. Pretty sure they were just growing pains due to winter weight gain. I'm starting to feel unsure about implant removal and thinking to myself do I need to fix something that isn't broken?!? I work a second job as a dancer to pay for the surgery and I'm hoping to continue this job after surgery but nervous about how they will look!! Ps my boobs are under the muscle and I don't want a lift, and keeping the capsule, had them for 7 yrs. Any ladies have any reviews with similar physic, and surgery procedure- would love to see
your results! Before my boobs I was a small A cup but 10 kilo's lighter.. Now I think I would be a B.. Let me know!

hi, I had the same thing, pain which was made worse by weight gain. I finally got my GP to refer me for an MRI (it cost me $300), but it was so worth it, it confirmed the rupture and it also gave me an idea of how much breast tissue had formed. It seems breast tissue can still continue to form throughout 20's. It looks to me as though you have a fair bit of breast tissue. For me I ended up with a better result with implants out. You are so wise sorting this out young, and also wise to not do a lift, as you may even find, that like me, once the weight of the implants was taken out, my breast actually have started to lift a bit (about 1.5cms).. Good luck with it all, I really hope it goes well.
Its so worth getting them out. You are on the right path.

Thank you so much for you response! I will be post poning the surgery date as I don't have enough time with annual leave and since then a lot have people are saying to keep them in. But I know that I am confident in getting them removed. Do you have any pics? How long did you have your implants in for? How long was it ruptured for before you got them out? Thanks so much for posting!!

I was a very different case in that I had rib surgery when I was 14, and had implants placed at 15 to partly hide the damage done. I have since found out that having implants is potentially damaging to the pectoral muscles, and also that its really hard for your body, which tries to reject the foreign objects. However, despite having them in for nearly 25 years, I didn't have too many problems until one ruptured. Considering I had the old style implants (liquid silicone gel) it didn't really seem too obvious, and even though I had an ultrascan which suggested some problems, I l left things. I was in the middle of my post grad studies and didn't have the time or money. However, then I got the pain, and luckily had an MRI. When I saw the MRI image I knew I had to act. Also I realised that I had been experiencing a lot of symptoms associated with breast implant illness.
The sooner you do it, the sooner your breasts and pectoral muscles can begin to recover. You look like you have plenty of natural tissue and definitely no sagging.
I had them removed in Brisbane, by Dr Samuel Yang and his fees were very reasonable (much lower than some of the more well known surgeons I contacted in Brisbane).
If you are postponing, I would still try to get your GP to let you have an MRI. There will be out of pocket costs, but its worth it. The GP will try and push you to rather have an ultra scan, but I found that unhelpful, and too easy to dismiss. The MRI makes it really clear, what a rupture looks like and what breast tissue is there. Check my profile to see mine.
Sometimes, if I sat quietly I could feel them inside and I could feel that body wanted them out. It was to the point where I didn't even want to 'connect' with my body, because the feeling just became stronger and stronger.

Wow thanks stephanie! I checked your profile and your natural boobs look amazing! I also have silicone gel implants. I only feel slight pain in one when I get my Period but I have noticed 1/3 of the symptoms you have suggested mildly from your page, especially when I sn tired. Yes I'm definitely happy to pay extra to get te MRI I actually missed my appointment last week (will reschedule). Your natural boobs really don't look much different with implants, do you know what size inplants you were? Also how are you going with your symptoms you used to have with leaked implants have they subsided??

hi its "naturally free" :-)
The right implant was 260cc and the left was about 300cc, so they were quite small. If you had your implants in the last 10 years they should be the firm gel, so that it doesn't leak out in a liquid form. Yeah, I definitely found the MRI helpful.
The symptoms have all but gone, no more joint pain, less brain fog, no more nerve like pain in my breast area (near the ruptured one it was quite sensitive at times). So yes, most of the symptoms have practically disappeared. I am only about 15 days post op and doing too much, so I do still have bouts of fatigue - but I am hopefully its just healing and will soon be gone.

Thank youu!! ! :) Did you get your capsule removed as well? I am not interested in getting that removed as I feel like that procedure is way to aggressive on the body and I believe the body will rid itself of minor if any silicone.
March 27, 2016
And you may have told me this already, but how long did you have yours in your body whilst they were ruptured?
March 27, 2016
All good! I re read your blog, so I assume you got capsules out?
March 27, 2016
And also how much time did you need to recover? I work at a job that is at a desk, the only thing stopping me from getting these out is trying to get enough annual leave. I don't know if a week will be enough or whether I need 2?

hi, I had complete capsule removed on left breast (ruptured one), and partial capsule removed on right one (intact implant). I have heard some say that capsules are reabsorbed by the body, and others say that they can remain and become calcified, resulting in misleading breast scans later. Its definitely more invasive to have the capsules removed.
With regards the silicone. The body is never able to rid itself of silicone, as it doesn't break down. The best it can do is to move it to the lymph glands or contain it with scar tissue, so the less you are left with the better. I am sure I have some in my body, as about one a week I feel quite unwell, have some swelling under my left armpit and then some lumpy feeling. A couple days later I feel better, so I am guessing my body is working to contain any loose silicone left.
I am not sure how long it was rupture. It may even have been for 10 years, as I got Mastitis while breast feeding and the nurse physically broke it down and possibly did some damage to the implant. But I would guess that it was actually ruptured for about 4 years, as I was having a surf lesson and as I lay on the board, I suddenly felt this pressure in my breast just go, as it is had burst. I also had all my health problems from then on, weight gain started, fatigue and inflammation (food allergies, worse asthma etc). So I think it was about 4 years. And then it progressed to much worse just a few months before my operation after I had a spinal twist and I think that the scar capsule might have torn at that point.
I had to take a full week off work, I have an office job and was able to return the next week no problems. So I would aim to take a week off work. If you say had the op on a Monday or Tuesday, I would say you could be back by the following week Monday, but might be feeling a little bit more tired (however given your young age and faster recovery you might even need less - Im 39).

PS: I had a lot of intense pain in my shoulder blade (left side), it
disappeared immediately after the ruptured implant was removed.

PPS: The one thing to keep in mind is that at some point the implants will need to be removed. On average they last up to 10 years (I have heard actual average is 7 years). So the earlier its done the less likely there will be complications.
