Melasma Treatment Thulium Laser

WORTH IT$600
I’m 29 years old, been working in the sun in Hawaii for 5 years. I never wore sunscreen in the first couple of years. I? loved the tan! After a year of having a Skyla IUD I? started noticing small patchy brown spots popping up on my forehead and cheeks. I? had no idea the hormones from the IUD could give me Melasma. The sun made it terribly worse! I’ve used every natural sunscreen made and the spots remain. The only true cure is to stay out of the sun! My spots have diminished tremendously from being inside and out of the sun however I? did try one session of the Thulium Laser Lavien. I’ve noticed a great difference, my skin looks new :) it’s been one week and I? absolutely love having no spots. I? know as soon as I go out in the sun, consistently, the spots will slowly come back. I’m also trying bleaching pads to keep the spots at bay, along with Maladerm.

What bleaching pads are you using ? I have two spots on each cheek bone area the left side being worse and in the summer I get it at the “mustache” area. I’ve tried topical hydroquinolone but not much benefit but I started mixing that with lytera 2.0 and it worked better but not fast results. I see mixed reviews on laser treatments for it but I’m to point where I am going to consult with someone soon about these spots. I hate them!

I'm using pads developed by the Aesthetician in Arizona, they make them in the office. Super expensive though, 180$ for 60 pads... i was honestly desperate and just did what they recommended which was the laser treatment as well as using the bleaching pads daily. I also Meladerm cream which is more natural than hydroquinolone. ( I've read really scary things bout the hydroq) It's amazing how much the spots go away when you aren't in the sun. Also use zinc sunscreen, not chemical based sunscreen. I've experimented with all kinds of sunscreens, it's hard to find them that aren't too thick but badger makes really hefty duty zinc sunscreen. I know how you feel, I hate the spots too!!

Hi! Have you been able to keep your melasma from coming back?

Aloha! It comes and goes. I noticed when I stopped using the bleaching pads they came back a lot more rapidly no matter how much sunscreen are used daily. I also experiment a lot with different natural sunscreens, right now I’m using one made by coola, I only use natural and zinc on my face. Which doesn’t seem to aggravate it. Anything scented is bad, like night creams. I use desert essence face wash , Clinique unscented night cream, bleaching pads, lytera and natural sunscreen. I think having a strict regiment helps. It has come back but is super faint.

Hi your skin turned out great! Where did you go in AZ?

H! I actually went to a dermatologist in Scottsdale at North Valley Facial Plastics and let me be honest- the second time around was horrific compared to the first. Not only was the dermatologist I saw the first time completely unprofessional, I had a bad reaction and very little improvement unlike the first time I went. The photos posted are from the first experience. Since then I returned 6 months after hoping to have similar result. Instead my face broke out with awful pimple-like bumps, was dry and red n didn’t even have the same burns like the first. The result weren’t as impressive like the first time, my forehead was actually wore an my chin now has inflammation on it that never existed before. SoI would honestly recommend the treatment however NOT recommend the lad who performed it.

Thanks for sharing! Any updates since you last posted? I had flawless skin until getting the Skyla. Took it out after 1 yr but it wreaked havoc on my skin and the melasma won't budge over a year out now. Definitely wasn't told that that was a side effect.

hi Sej :) we share the same experience. i had no idea Melasma was a side effect of the hormones. Had I known I wouldn’t have gotten it. So since the treatment I’ve noticed the spots slowly coming back. They look faint, mostly because I’m diligent about lathering up sunscreen and use the bleaching pads at night and Lytera in the morning. i surf, dive, ride bikes, play a lot in the sun. I’m definitely not hiding inside but my full time job is no longer in the sun. it’s bitter sweet. the malederm didn’t seem to help nearly as much as the bleaching pads. they contain Arbutrin. I’d try one Thulium Laser treatment. it was $350 and hurt like hell but was so worth it
