I am a 35 y/o female. I've needed braces since I was about 10, but as my parents could never afford it, and there was always something else going on, I am only now able to do this myself.
I have a high right canine tooth, a slight overbite, and slight misalignment.
I am going tomorrow to get X-rays and impressions, which will then be sent to the lab, and hopefully a few weeks later I'll have my 3-D analysis and first set of trays.
I am a little nervous, but excited!

Get excited! I'm only 3 months in and absolutely loving my results so far!

At the beginning it seems annoying, you you get used to it and it's like second nature to take your trays in and out!

Getting ready!

So I went to do my impressions and X-rays today. It was really neat actually. The "impressions" were not really impressions at all, but a camera using light to create a 3-D image of my teeth and bite! They will send my images to the lab and I should get my first set of trays in about 3 weeks! Very excited!

That is called the iTero Scanner. It is more accurate than the old fashioned gooey molds. My orthodontist uses it too.
Good luck with your teeth straightening !!!

Good to know. :) I kept hearing about the gooey stuff. But this was quick and easy. And I didn't have to deal with the taste of the putty or the uncomfortable tray sitting there waiting for it to set.

Hello fellow 35 y/o! Better late than never, that's how I feel. Congrats on your journey! I have braces but my ortho did the digital impressions also. Very cool to see the 3D images as they appear on the screen.

First Day with Aligners

So far so good! It's been one day and I can definitely feel the pressure! There is one spot that presses on my gum causing a little bleeding. I'm hoping that my gums will toughen up, or the trays won't be as tight as my teeth move. I also filed the edge hoping that will help.
I know my coffee and random food consumption is going to be very limited from here on out! My top aligner is very tight and is pretty difficult to remove so I will probably not remove it much if I don't have to In fact, I only left them out for 1 hour today. It felt weird eating and I can tell at least one of my teeth feels like it is already starting to line up a little different.
AND No one can tell I am wearing them! I do talk a little different because the trays scratch the underside of my tongue a little when I talk. But it's not bad, and no noticeable lisp. :)
The orthodontist said I have 20 sets of trays. I'm not sure if that includes any refinements or not. We'll see.
All in all, doing well so far. It's crazy to think I have about a year ahead of me. But I'm ready!

Hi there I'm 37 and had mine fitted on the 6th June too. Like you my food intake in now very limited as it is just not feasible to keep taking off and bushing teeth at work. Extracting the positive I am thinking of the upside of weightloss! It feels weird eating for me too and sometimes a little painful on certain teeth. I know what you mean about the stratching of the underside of the tongue, that is my only speech issue with it as I have not got the lisp which I was anticipating. I think I may try the filing tonight too to see if that helps. I have been told I have 30 sets of trays so you will be complete before me but I would love to keep in touch on this journey. Another question, were you given the little rubber chewy and how often are you chewing on that? I am finding myself having to do it in meetings at work and I think people are wondering what the hell I am doing!

Hey! Good to hear from a fellow newbie! I do have the chewies but my orthodontist just said to use them if I have trouble getting the aligners all the way in. Although he did say chewing helped with the movement of the teeth when I asked about chewing sugar-free gum with the aligners in. He said it would be OK but I haven't tried it yet, and I may not, it kind of seems like I shouldn't.

Definitely take a nail file to those suckers! Your toungue will thank you! The chewies are mainly used when you first put your trays in. Just bite down on them to make sure they are seated properly. You don't have to keep chewing on them after that. I've found I only need them for first couple days of a new tray after that i find the tray starts fitting well on its own. As far as snacking, I will just pop them out have a quick snack rinse my mouth really well with water, check mirror to make sure nothing left on my teeth then pop them back in. Then I just brush my teeth as soon as I can when its more convenient. Seems to work well. I also got retainer wipes (check my review for the brand) they are fantastic. Just wipe down the trays and you can pop straight back in your mouth, no rinsing! and they are minty fresh!

Retainer wipes sound like a good idea! I'll look for those!

Great to hear about the chewy my Ortho said make it my new best friend and chew on it every hour and I have been worrying when I miss an hour but thanks for confirming its ok! Interesting about gum but like you not sure it seems right plus may get stuck on the tray.
