Second Opinion
I went to an elite Invisalign provider/orthodontist to get his opinion this week. I felt after all the mishaps with my previous orthodontist it would be a good idea. He didn't examine my teeth at all, like I thought he was. He mostly just went over prices/options. The options were I could start over with Invisalign, which would cost $189 per month (paid to the orthodontist) and $1,200 (paid to Invisalign). Or do nothing and leave everything as is. Did I mention my retainers seem to have shifted one of my lower teeth and it's formed a slight gap around it? Yeah. Thanks to my old ortho office not knowing how to scan me for retainers. This new ortho said it's really up to the patient and the level of "perfection" they want to attain. I actually was never trying to attain perfection but just wanted the bite corrected which I thought I was paying for originally. I mean $8,000 for a bite that's still off? Not ok right? Anyway I understand paying the ortho for services rendered but was disappointed to hear I had to pay Invisalign again too. So I declined any further treatment. All I wanted was for the treatment to be finished correctly. But it already took a large portion of my savings and at this point I'm done spending any more money on Invisalign. All I can say is I hope sharing my experience will help others out there. Make sure you're getting what you were promised and paid for, don't let your ortho rush you in and out of appointments or have a "close enough" attitude. Voice every concern. Most of all, choose your orthodontist wisely. They make or break your treatment. I was very happy with my first orthodontist but not the second, their skill levels were like night and day. I wish you the best! xo
Invisalign Retainers Arrived
After waiting 6 weeks, I received 4 sets of Invisalign retainers yesterday. When I left my final orthodontist appointment in Maui they didn't know if they scanned me correctly so I wasn't sure if my retainers would even fit properly. They feel extremely tight but they appear to fit. Though the right side on the bottom tray doesn't cover one of my teeth all the way. Not sure if that will be a problem. Now that I've moved to the mainland I have the opportunity to get a second opinion from an elite Invisalign provider. I made an appointment for this Monday, I felt it would be a good idea to find out where I stand and if there are any major issues after these past few months of dental mishaps. I'll update after my consultation.
Received Temporary Retainers
I saw my orthodontist on June 1st. They had my temporary in-house retainers ready for me. I tried them on but they're really tight and bulky. Picture Invisalign trays but made out of extra thick plastic and they're not as clear or flexible. They didn't fit well at all. The ortho tried to force them on my teeth and still couldn't get them on properly. Then he hands me a form to sign that says I've received my retainers. He acted like I was all done and was about to send me on my way. He completely forgot I was there to be scanned for my real retainers that I paid for from Invisalign! Or did he? Maybe he just pretended to forget because the girl who usually scans left earlier in the day and nobody else in the office (including the orthodontist himself) knows how to scan. He tried but had no idea how to scan so he had a new girl in training who barely knew how to use the scanner equipment try to scan me. It took forever and still came out incomplete. They sent it into Invisalign anyway hoping it would work. Ugh... I couldn't believe how unprofessional this 2nd orthodontist experience was becoming. Also concluding treatment with your client is kind of a big deal but it seemed meaningless for this ortho, they didn't take any after pics as planned and I felt more like I was just in the way, taking up time. Indeed this final appointment was a sad and disappointing experience overall. Bummer of a way to finish a long 3 year journey of intense teeth straightening.
