How to Find a Qualitied Surgeon to Remove Umvilucal Hernia Mesh (Adheard to Stomach and Bowl), and Fix Rectus Diastasys Tummy Tu
ORIGINAL POST
I have been searching for over 5 years to remove...
$15,000
I have been searching for over 5 years to remove this mesh that was used unnecessarily at my belly button area.I have an epicgastric hernia and a moderate rectus diastasys. In 2008 I had a general surgeon tell me that he fixed it using mesh . He messed up. He put the mesh at my umbilical area were there was initially only a small cosmetic pouching from last csection.
I scheduled two surgeries at once. Hoping for less down time, right?
WRONG!
I HAD A RECTECELE repair done by OBGYN. And hernia repair done by General surgeon one immediately after the other(I guess).
Still not completely sure what they did to me. I do recall waking up crying and feel I g VIOLATED!!! I was whimpering, thing why did they do this to me, I trusted them, I felt so afraid and alone.
After weakening fully, I just brushed it off, (those feelings).
After being lied to and uncertain as to why I couldn't do sit ups anymore, I simply assumed he was the greatest surgeon ever. I felt no pain from the epigastric ,(needed, and assumed surgical ) area and couldn't do a sit up to produce the bulge anymore.so I assumed it was better. But the pain in my lower end was unbearable. I was told that I was still healing and not to worry. I took several months to heal. I recall going back in for infections that smelled horrible. I could not contain the odor. My 8 year old son wondered why mommy smelled so bad!
Ok. That's a whole nother story...
Mesh still a problem . Abdominal pain from adheasions to stomach and bowels omg for years. Didn't even have clarification as to IF if was attatched to anything until 2015! I had CT scans and different physicians all saying different things. Some yes , I still have a hernia( but I couldn't do a sit up anyways to produce it. And some would Say no, I don't have a hernia, I'm fine! Finally I went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. What a great experience. Very impressive establishment. However, as my luck would have it (it seems), I was directed to the "newbies." The youngsters, the not so experienced doctors. Who admitted that they had never done a mesh removal before. Needless to say, IM SO SCARED!!! They took lots of images which are available to me and other doctors if I wish to share them via a patient portal. It's so awesomely usefull! So I can visually see what and where I've been talking about all these years. Instead of communicated dialogue and Medical terminologies, I can show them what I mean. And it is agreed that the surgery would 've a LOT MORE DANGEROUS THAN PREVIOUSLY ANTICIPATED. now I really am scared. I want a n experienced surgeon. But I can't simply request another doctor like that through the Mayo systems. I've tried. The initial doctor, Dr. Marie Piorer, made it sound like I should be greatful to have the doctor that she reffered me to, like he agreed to do it ( "not for free", I thought). It's his job, why wouldn't he agree to do it? Anyways, the trama General surgeons staffing can't put you with just anyone .the cereal has got to come from another doctor or something. So I don't know what to do. I've been attempting to consult with both surgeons (needed for mesh removal ,and to fix rectus diastasys , & tummy tuck). I've seen plastic surgeon 2x as well as general surgeon 2x NEVER could get them on the same day. ( I wonder how they could ever preform surgery on the same day ,if they can't even meet with me same day to consult!!!!!) Need referral to qualified plastic/abdominal muscles expert!! Oh yeah, forgot to mention urgency: my weakening stomach muscles are now spread out so that they they can't function. No support and back has taken the strain for years. Back is now giving out. Spine twisted and contorted and degeneratively worn from strain. Almost a cripple now. Can't work can't play can't sleep well at night. Rarely any relief. I refuse to have back surgery like fusing the nerves as suggested. I just need more muscles to work as they should. Will removing the mesh make the hole too big to simply sew it closed with a traditional tummy tuck? I don't want any mesh!! Should I just leave the mesh attached to stomach and bowels? How can traditional tummy tuck fixing diastsys be done with that mesh integrating?

Did you have any luck finding someone?
Dr. Green at Emory University Hospital ob/gyn oncology division at Clifton Campus does these specialized procedures. I see Dr.Khanna at this facility and had a patient that needed a specialist for this. My patient loves Dr Green. You may want to contact her.

Oh my, I am sorry to hear about all of the issues you have had. I can't even imagine:(
