Having an Arm Lift After 16 Years of Not Showing my Arms in Public - Mandeville, LA

I've read so many reviews on RealSelf which ultimately led to me wanting to write one of my own.

Went for a consult with a PS in my area to discuss breast reduction, but since my arms have long been a concern of mine, decided to have an arm lift consult as well.

One thing the ps asked was, what concerns you the most? It was my arms and I've decided to move forward with the arm lift ahead of the BR.

There were 2 deciding factors that influenced my decision to move forward with the arm lift ahead of the BR and the first was recovery time. I was told I could return to work after just 5 days. Given my current workload now and through the end of the year, I won't be able to take an extended amount of time off. I'd also considered having the procedures together, but don't want to have too much done at one time and be sorry later.

The 2nd deciding factor for moving forward with the Arm Lift now is my upcoming vacations in December and February. I would absolutely LOVE to be able to wear a sleeveless top on my tropical vaca in Feb. The last sleeveless photo I have was from a trip to Vegas in 1998. My arms looked fantastic! Since then, I've had 2 kids, gained 85 pounds but lost 45 of them back. So, my body has been stretched back and forth a few times.

Photos coming soon.

It sounds like you put a lot of thought into this and I'm glad we could help with your decision making.  Where will you be going in December and February?  You've got a lot to be excited about and I'll be following your journey.  Can't wait to see the pics.

Thanks, Gina. Appreciate the support. As luck would have it, in December I'm going to the place I last wore a sleeveless top, Las Vegas. In Feb, we're going to the USVI which I'm really looking forward to.

Impossible to go back to work in just 5 days. Honey try to ask another surgeon (use 'ask a doctor' feature here) because this is a very delicate issue, post-op care is critical and you need to be ready. Whish you the best!

Hi Primavera...ps said earliest was 5 days since I have a desk job. However, I don't return to work for 10 days following surgery.

Mine's the 6th
Nervous!
Did you buy a compression garment or just using what Dr gives you? I'm having implant replacement/ lift at same time
October 22, 2015
My dr said no compression, just ace bandages. I'm not having lipo. Another girl I know had hers done by dr Spies and she didn't have to wear compression either.
October 23, 2015
Good luck Deb. Please share your results too.
October 23, 2015
I haven't purchased any compression garments. Figured I'd ask at my preop in a few weeks.

30 days Pre-Op....Surgery plan-liposuction first?

SunnyCaliGirlG
I've gained a couple of pounds but was actually hoping to lose a few prior to surgery. Planning to start a high protein, low-carb diet on Monday in an effort to lose as much fat as possible before the surgery.

The real reason for my post today, and what has me a little concerned, is that I don't know exactly what my surgery plan is. PS demonstrated on my arm during consult how much of my "wing" would be removed and even location of the incision. But I've seen other arm lift reviews where patients had fat liposuctioned from the arm before any incisions were made. Is that common, or a standard practice? I wonder if that is the plan for me too, but I just don't know. Should I know? I'm planning to contact my ps on Monday to find out. Am I over-reacting?

Ask about the Lopo as Ibhad a minimum arm lift and lipo and the lipo made my formerly smooth arms lumpy. Arms are worse

Lipo

Oh wow....thanks for sharing that judyjudy
October 26, 2015
I plan on doing this procedure once I lose all my weight. As far as the diet, Very low carb, high fat, med protein is best. (too much protein will keep you out of ketosis. I'm on a zero carb diet and have lost 54 pounds so far. Here's one of my favorite sites about this diet. http://myzerocarblife.jamesdhogan.com/wp/start/

Hi Lizzie...I'm never going to lose all my weight unfortunately so I'm settling for here and now. Thanks for sharing the link.

Sunny please make sure you know in advance what you want and that the surgeon is on board, on the same page of your desired outcome. Surgeons ALL have their preference of scar placement and liposuction with a Brachioplasty. I strongly encourage you to bluntly ask where he\she places the scar. http://www.realself.com/question/Arm-lift-scar Many\Most have their preference and stick to that. If the scar placement is important to you, I encourage you to ask that specific question. Also some\many surgeons do not subscribe to the idea\practice of liposuction with excision. I personally don't see how liposuction could not add to the final outcome being better. Take it from one who has had the experience. Don't be naïve\afraid. This is a volunteer procedure that you are paying for, please ask questions. You have the right to know. You don't want to wake up disappointed. Be informed, ask beforehand. You CAN know prior to surgery where you can reasonably expect your scars to be.

Thanks for your response and I agree 100% with finding out all details in advance for this elective surgery that I am personally funding. I did find out the expected placement at my pre-op appt and also that he doesn't do lipo first. So no lipo for me and I'm okay with that.
