WORTH IT
I consulted with Gary about an upper bleph, and also told him I wanted to investigate how easy or not it would be, to have my much hated bump removed from my nose. I had disliked the bump since I was 14 and only a couple of years ago I bumped into a friend whose small children asked I was a pirate! Gary introduced me to Andrew Camilleri a consultant ENT who said my nose was a straight forward job so without hesitation I booked for the two surgeries to be done in one hit. It took some convincing to get family, friends and in particular the husband on board, who was worried I wouldn’t look like me.
The recovery was really easy and straightforward, completely pain free which is hard to believe looking at the photos. The care from Gary’s team was fantastic, from the anaesthetist to the nursing staff. In particular thank you to the nurse who asked me if I’d seen my face, she took me to the bathroom to take the first look, I was glad to have the support, I had been too scared to look and had in fact been to the bathroom but avoided the mirror.
I wasn’t able to drive for the first week, I’d say that was the worst part. I also had a family bereavement in the same week so I was relieved that I’d told my close friends who helped me out immensely. Two weeks after the surgery, I had virtually no bruising which is pretty remarkable. My mother who wasn’t exactly in support of the surgery, didn’t even notice I looked any different and when I asked her what she thought, she said ‘’wow haven’t they done a lovely job’’. I still look like me, just a little refreshed. I was slightly nervous about seeing work colleagues and old friends who I hadn’t told, I was fully prepared to own up but I found that I didn’t need to, I had a few friends asking what face cream I was now using and another friend said I was looking hot! People see you as whole person and not bits of body parts so I’m glad I still look like me.
