Three months ago I had a full facelift with Gary Ross at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle. I had previously had a facelift some 20 years ago with another surgeon and decided the time was right to repeat the procedure. Natural ageing was bringing slack facial muscles and droopy crepey skin which made me look tired, washed out and rather serious looking. I didn't want to look like that. I wanted to have a fresh vigorous look and for my facial expressions to be more visible through smoother tauter skin.
I didn't have too many questions to put to Gary, as I'd had a previous facelift, but I have no doubt he would have answered any amount of questions. He and his staff were always immediately available by phone or email for any queries and information. He was very keen to ensure I had realistic expectations of the facelift. He told me what it would and wouldn't do. We stood in front of a mirror in his office and he lifted my cheeks to show the result I could expect.
So I went ahead and had the operation. Everything went smoothly and without a hitch. From arriving at the hospital at 7am on a dark cold winter morning and being met and escorted personally to my room as was everyone (a very nice touch this) to being greeted by the ward staff, shown to my room, introduced to everyone including the anaesthetist and for Gary to pop in and say hello to being escorted down the corridor for my anaesthetic and operation it all went smoothly. The anaesthetist was all smiles and reassurance and quickly dispatched me to an untroubled dreamless sleep. The next moment I was sipping water and it was all over.
I had no pain, only a few hours of mild discomfort, and the nursing staff were excellent. Gary came to see me the next day and then I was discharged. A few days later I was slightly worried about a bruise that appeared so I contacted the hospital and Gary and a nurse saw me the next day and reassured me that it was perfectly normal. At no time was I made to feel silly or over anxious, and the bruise did indeed disappear quickly.
Now for the result. My facelift has exceeded all my expectations. I feel fabulous. Acquaintances not in the know tell me how well I look, or ask if I've been on holiday. I'm sure that as I don't look tired anymore I really do have more energy. I feel rejuvenated. So don't worry about being too old to have this done. I will certainly be going back to see Gary when I am in my 80s.
