Male 8mm silastic chin implant to increase projection
WORTH IT
Short and sweet version:
Really happy with my the final projection and outcome of my procedure with an 8mm silicone chin implant. I feel my profile has been significantly improved, I may consider an injectable filler to reduce my lip-chin groove in the future, depending how I feel. I would highly recommend Dr. Kerem and his team!
Long version:
The projection of my chin has been bothering me for a few years now, so I reached out to a number of doctors in the UK and in Turkey, and opted for Turkey due to the amount of positive reviews (both online and from friends), and ultimately the price.
I chose Dr. Kerem as he had great reviews which seemed legitimate, and an aesthetic eye for creating an improved face shape. I’m really happy with my choice.
I initially dealt with Dr. Kerem’s assistant Ferve on Whatsapp/email – she’s an absolute gem and honestly such an asset to the practice. I had another procedure done in Turkey previously, and their customer service was so lacking when compared to the awesome Ferve. She really went the extra mile and made sure I was both happy with the outcome and feeling alright on a personal level. Five stars to Ferve’s customer service.
Dr. Kerem’s offices were modern, well designed and the team felt just as polished. Felt like they were straight out of an American medical tv drama. Dr. Kerem was confident and efficient, which could be mistaken as a bit flippant or rushed (like most specialist doctors I’ve encountered - they keep a busy day). If you’re feeling nervous/insecure but I was confident in my choice and came prepared with questions written down in advance. I would highly recommend bringing written questions down in advance in case you feel rushed, I easily forget things when I’m nervous/pressed.
Surgery day was great, the hospital was much nicer than most UK hospitals or even new build flats in the UK. The Dr. and his team came in and talked me through the surgery again, made sure I was ok, and talked through how he wold custom shape the 8mm implant to balance my face. After he left, the hospital’s anaesthesiologist came shortly after and knocked me out from there.
Recovery was a little painful after I left the hospital that night, as I didn’t have their IV-drip pain killers, but the driver took me to the pharmacy to get any extra medication I needed (which cost around £4). I was able to sleep alright propped up on my pillow after that.
Right after the surgery, I was quite concerned about the projection achieved, as the swelling made it hard to tell if it was in balance with my lower lip (as my the lower half of my face was all out of proportion at that point due to initial swelling). The numbness, which is a standard side effect with this procedure, was a little unsettling and took some getting used to.
It took a week to two weeks for the swelling to really go down, and 4-6 weeks to start seeing the final look. The numbness continued until about 4 weeks when I could go to the gym again, I noticed it faded fairly quickly after that. At 6.5 weeks, I still have a little reduced sensation on half of my bottom lip, but hoping that will go away over the next month or two.
6.5 weeks on, I’m really happy with the projection. My resulting lip-chin groove ("mentolabial sulcus") may be slightly deeper than I’d like. Not a massive issue as I feel my profile has been significantly improved. I will wait to see how it settles in the next few months, but I may consider an injectable filler in the future to reduce it, it if it really bothers me.
