My story consists of several parts: getting an absolutely horrible permanent upper lid eyeliner, removing it, getting an absolutely fabulous eyeliner. All in the course of four months. It was quite a rollercoaster, however with the light at the end of the tunnel. While being through my "very low" moments (those who struggled with the bad tattoo could attest) I discovered this site and got a great deal of info (hello and thank you Eva!) Maybe my story below will help and give hope to others. Here how it goes.
Back in August I was absolutely sure I wanted to have my upper eyelids tattooed (after several life changing events), and wanted it to be done right. So, I found a very expensive artist who promotes herself in all the social media in the Madison, WI area and has a decent looking portfolio online. Interviewed her, liked what she said, scheduled an appointment with her. Given that the price was above the zip code average (not a Groupon deal!) I was absolutely sure I hedged myself against any risk. We discussed my preferences and I asked her to perform to the best of her abilities. The first shadow of a doubt I had after the procedure: the tails of the wings were longer than I wanted, thick, dull, bumpy lines, a bit above the eyelash line, and asymmetrical. The eye done second was absolutely atrocious. But I heard before and was told by the "Artist" the initial results could be shocking: they are overly dramatic, darker, the skin is puffy right after the application. I looked like a domestic violence victim. But I went ahead and waited for two weeks. Needless to say that I lost my sleep meanwhile, looking in the mirror constantly, looking for the signs of improvement while waiting for the touch-up appointment. I called my "artist" right before the touch-up telling her we need to take some of the pigment out (i read specifically- the system she uses does offer the masking technique). Her reply was "she only works with color, but not to worry: she will even out the lines by adding more ink". Oy!!!! I knew immediately I had to fix it somehow by someone else. The "Artist" said she had no idea who could help me with the removal in the area. Let me fast forward next two days when I was calling/ texting/ emailing frantically to every place that I thought could help me. Laser? Well, that was an option for the black ink, but it was too fresh , too close to the eyes, possibly several procedures....And then I found Tammy Stanek. My lucky star was shining. Tammy gave me my life back. She saw me the very next day and performed a saline gel removal on my miserable asymmetrical wings (rather horns!). The procedure itself was very bearable, though it is saline solution/gel being tattooed into the skin over the unwanted pigment. But with the anesthetic applied prior to the removal, I was fine. I wanted those wings gone so badly that any pain would not play any role. Again, it was bearable. 10 days later the wings/ horns fell off leaving the pink skin underneath. After the healing (timeline is different for different skin and the area treated) Tammy gave me the best eyeliner possible: precise, with pointed delicate wings, enhancing the eyelashes, very symmetrical. And I could have had it from the very beginning, if only I went straight to Tammy! But, Tammy did such a wonderful job covering that initial mess, and the pinkness from the removal is almost gone by now. I got to know her through this ordeal: down to earth professional with long tenure, yet constantly educating herself. She helped so many people! If you are in Madison, WI area, or within a reasonable drive, and think about permanent make-up of any kind or need a correction- I highly recommend Tammy Stanek. This industry has become very popular recently. All kind of people take crash courses and advertise themselves as permanent make-up artists. Please ask your Artist if he/she does the removal. If not- run away. It is a wonderful procedure in the right hands, but disfiguring in the hands of an amateur. Be careful, choose wisely. Message me, if you want more info.
