No Nipples After Breast Reduction

Before surgery, my breast were 38G/H, post surgery I'm now 36C/D. I'm happy that I had the reduction, should have done it decades ago! Here are my issues... 1. 15 minutes before surgery, I was very clear that I wanted the minimum removed (500cc required by health insurance) however, my doctor removed 1000 ccs from one breast and 1500 cc's from the other breast. I was very clear that I wanted to be reduced to a DD or DDD. I'm now a C or D. 2. More important than the size I have lost almost all of the pigmentation in my areolas and the doctor says that the pigmentation will not return and I will need the get tattoos. 3. Even more important than the other two issues, my nipples died and I now dont have any nipples. Is there anything I can do to a least restore my pigmentation? Had anyone ever had breast augmentation after reduction? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I think you need to look at your legal options. I'm no doctor but this could be an infection. You didn't just lose discoloration you lost your nipples. Might be something deeper to explore. Do some research online and/or get a second opinion from another plastic surgeon not connected to your current one.

It's unfortunate that this can happen (the part about the nipples). I am surprised the surgeon took so much out when you requested a more moderate reduction. The most important issue right now though, is to make sure you get those open areas healed up properly. Nothing else can be addressed until you a LOT further along in your healing process-most surgeons won't even CONSIDER any type of revision work until you are 6 months post surgery if not longer. You can definitely have augmentation after reduction, some women get implants placed at the same time as a reduction, if they want a higher profile/upper pole fullness, however it's much more complicated surgery. A lot of surgeons will do a lift (same technique as reduction, just less tissue removal) first, let it heal, then place the implant later. Another option if you don't want implants is to have fat transfer, if you have an area that can be lipo'd for fat harvest. BUT AGAIN, you won't be able to do anything like that until you are more healed up. The good news actually is that you're only one month post and your breasts haven't even dropped and fluffed yet. I'm not saying they'll get bigger but they will look different after they've settled, so wait until you're further along before you judge your results, as far as size and shape. I haven't heard of any way to restore your areola color other than tattooing, unfortunately. But if that skin has freshly peeled off, you might have to wait until they heal to see what they are really going to look like. I know it's really hard to be patient but you won't know what your outcome is until more time passes. Good luck.
