Hi, I am so sorry to see you went through this!

My BR was on 8/4, and my PS was planning to do lipo on the sides, but was concerned about how the skin looked, it appeared I had poor blood supply on my left breast, so he did not do the lipo. I went in to see him on 8/6, and he was concerned that the right breast actually looked worse. They called in a script for nitroglycerin cream to apply to the "dusky" areas (it's a vasodilator), and the next day he called me to have me go to a wound care center and start hyperbaric oxygen treatments. I have seen significant improvement in just the 6 sessions I've had (20 total in the end), and continued use of nitro cream. There is a small necrotic area at the right t- junction, and it has not gotten any bigger, and I can see new blood vessels forming under the skin (angiogenesis), and the color of my skin is improved significantly. I wish your PS would've looked into HBO treatments for your situation, but I'm glad you're on the mend!!
Btw, I am also not a diabetic, and am a non-smoker, like you, so my PS and I were not sure why this happened to me!
Thank you! I am glad yours was caught early and you are getting better. Although my road is long, I am still happy with my choice to do the surgery. I am going to ask about the HBO treatment just out of curiosity, as it is most likely late for that. :-)
Oh good. Yea, a lot of people have asked me that. :-). Glad I am not the only one.
HBO treatment could still help with healing your breasts, especially once you're working on revision/repair. Definitely something to bring up to your doctor, though I don't know how common HBO clinics are. I'm in chicago, and am going to a wound care center in another town (which is actually more convenient than going somewhere in downtown Chicago, go figure).

I feel the same way, even though I'm dealing with more than I expected in my recovery, I don't regret having the BR, my neck, back and shoulders are so relieved from the pain, numbness and stiffness that was literally always there!

My integrated specialist wants me to do Hyperbaric for a week. He has these "portable" units, so the first visit is in office, and following week it is at my house, to be returned.
Of Course, an Integrated Specialist doesn't take insurance (but you can file back for it if your PS gives the Rx for it). OR look up wound therapy or hyperbaric in your city and see if there are any hits.
Check with your surgeon, because HyperBaric is supposed to be pretty spiffy for wound healing. Internal, and external, so even if you are fairly closed, it helps for the internal healing if the wounds are still knitting, and it is also shown to minimize adhesions..
I am sooo happy to see you are closing up!
YAY
I am still excited for you and look forward to seeing your end results. A lighter front end and a new job! It has been a rough road for you, but holy [RS bleep], you are getting it going on!

Super Congrats
And thanks for posting!
Thanks!!!! Sometimes I get so busy, I forget how totally awesome I feel when I talk to all of you on this site. Thank you so much for being here.
Wow. Good to know. I go back on Tuesday and need to remember to ask about that. :-). Thanks!!
My heart breaks for you, I'm 6 weeks post today and I too had every large breast! I thank God and my wonderful doctor/ staff that all went well, had a little nipple issue when they took stitches out but after a week of babying it.... all is great! Praying you heal soon sweetie!! ...
Thanks!! Glad you are healing well! Take it easy. :-)
I'm glad you're doing well. As I look at the stitches in wondering will tissue drop & fill in that area? Well wishing you the best of success in healing. Hugs. .ps.. you're 1 courageous woman to deal worth this workout an emotional breakdown.
:-). Thank you! All of you on here really give me the help and hope that I need. It is wonderful. :-).

Day 48, finally uploading pictures

Hi all,

I have not been on here for awhile. Been dealing with some issues as well getting laid off from my job 6 days after returning to work.

As far as the surgery, I have had a lot of issues, but I still would do this again in a heartbeat. I wanted to post photos of what has been going over the last 7 weeks. I have been seeing my surgeon every two weeks for the last month so this situation has been followed closely and I just want to say that other than the first infection during week 2, none of these pictures are showing an infection, although it looks like it.

Oh my does it hurt in any way? Did your Ps refer you to a wound specialist? Mines opened up&i wad immediately sent to 1. I'm still dealing with it but all the tissue is reddish pink&healthy. We only used silverdene over the weekend it 1st opened, then straight to Santyl ointment for 2 weeks now we're on to medihoney. It speeds up the healing. Look it up. Wishing you the best.
Thank you. I will check with him on those. It feels like a sunburn, I suppose. He says it will be a few more weeks, then we should be ready for a closing procedure. Fingers crossed. Were yours as open as mine is?
What does the ps say about this?? I'm getting close to making the big decision and this is scaring the bejesus outta me. Is this normal?
Hi! No! This is NOT normal!! Please do not let this scare you away. This is still the best thing I could have done for myself. Just some scary, gross detours. My case is unusual. Very, very unusual. My PS debrided a lot today. It doesn't look pretty, yet, but it will soon enough. Once all of the necrotic tissue is removed we will do a revision to close it all up. I didn't mean to scare you, I just had a little meltdown and needed some support. I am OK, and will be OK. I promise to keep the updates coming. When are you thinking of doing this? I would love to hear your story. :-). And, please, look at all of the wonderful successes that are on here. I will be one, too, soon enough.
I would still do it - but know there is always a small percentage of something happening. Check out my review also as we're the same time along Post Op.
Lengle you have the most amazing positive outlook.
Thank you, downsized, for showing her the other, more realistic possibilities!?
Ok...whew! I'm still scared, but the the idea of living half a life with the pain is scarier. Thanks for showing me your story.
I hope everything works out for you. I will be posting my story, but I don't know when I'll be able to have the surgery. I don't have a place for downtime or anybody that can help out during that time. Plus I have some requirements to fill before my insurance will consider this. I may be able to bypass the physical therapy if my dr and a ps say it's serious enough. We'll see! But good luck to you. I would love to see your after pics.
Just want to send up a prayer and ask our Heavenly Father to please provide your daughter with the support and time she needs to meet this need in her life. I thank You Father. right now and consider it so! In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Please share with your new family your story AFTER your surgery. I'm sure I speak for the masses in saying, "We'd like to celebrate with you". Be blessed!
Amen, saddy back!
Just like the other woman, this scares me to death! I'm scheduled for my reduction August 27, I'm normally very relaxed about surgeries but this one is giving so much anxiety ! How do you feel? You sound very strong emotionally !
I feel wonderful. Just scary to look at. Well, OK, after debridement I am a little sore. But nothing worse than a post workout kind of sore. The ugly areas feel like a sunburn, but other than that, I feel good. No more back, neck, shoulder pain. No horrible summer boob sweat. I have the cutest little sports bras. Please don't change your mind. I would STILL do it again. I promise to keep posting pictures as I improve. You will see!!
And I am not stuck in bed. I get up, shower, put on silvadiene and bandages, put on a sports bra and go about my day. Mostly normal. :-)
Thanks, you have a great attitude! I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures of you later! Do you have nipple sensitivity still?
:-). Well at the moment, my nipples seem to be hiding, but I have feeling on the right and some feeling on the left. That could still change. And if the nipples stay inverted, we will do a correction procedure.
This is something that could happen. I had the surgery the same time and my Review photos show a very different experience.
Take care ale glee and recover soon.
Ale glee?? LOL I'd typed Lengle and it autocorrected it :)
Hahahaha. Hmmmmmmm, ale glee?? Is that like happy drunk? ;-). How are you healing? I remember we were able the same time. Hopefully you are doing really well and getting back to normal and are enjoying your new girls. :-)
I am so sorry you have had this happen. It must have taken such an emotional toll on you. How have you handled it, and do you work or are you able to stay home and recover?
I wish there were a simple solution - what does the Dr say? Even from the early photos it looked as though there was an issue with healing and incisions.
My heart goes out to you and I'm so glad you shared this with us. You're right, it isn't the norm - but it is important for others to know the risks. Take care and keep us posted. ((HUGS))
Hi, downsized. I was actually laid off last week. So after 4 weeks and two wok days home and then 6 days of woek., I am at home looking for work. :-). Cherry on top? Lol
I hate to go here, but have you spoken to a lawyer? This is very serious and has taken an emotions and physical toll on you. Now, it has been affected financially also. It is not through fault of yours - amd someone has to take responsibility. That IS what their insurance is for. This is not abusing the system.
Take care
Tera
I am concerned just how your tissue became necrotic in the first place. Are you diabetic, a smoker? Yes, this is quite unusual, but with proper wound care will heal. Are you being seen by wound care specialist? Are you able to have hyperbaric oxygen therapy? Make sure you get the very best care. This looks like a serious wound complication to me from the pictures. I am not an expert, but an experienced RN and also had a BR. Necrotic tissue may need later skin grafting, etc. for proper long term results. I wish you the very best.
Hi. Not a smoker. Not a diabetic. I never really asked why. Hmmmmmmm. We did discuss possible skin grafting soon. My PS's SA is a wound care specialist. She is the main one treating this right now. They didn't say anything about any of those other options though. I will ask on Tuesday. Thank you for the info. :-).
What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
Good, make sure you follow up, or make a friend or health care worker friend in with you. These complications can be serious. You have a great attitude, and they will heal, but are not normal by any means and I would inquire strongly why they occurred in your case. Surgical assistant? Is this person an RN, just an assistant? Find out what kind of wound care specialist he/she is? Where they were trained, how long, etc. Wound care is state of the art these days, and you want the best. I wish you the very best.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used to treat wounds like yours where increased oxygen under pressure, so to speak will, increase healing. It is the same thing used to treat divers who come up to soon who have what is commonly called, the bends. You go into a chamber, like a little room, for a period of time, with a medical person, and pressure is added from outside, and then your wounds can heal quicker and more completely. Not all places have them, but many do. In Seattle, we have had it for decades now. There is no pain.

The other side at last!!

I am home! Surgery went well. I don't have the official numbers, but I think he tool a total of 7 pounds. My back pain is gone. Neck pain is done. And, although I don't like it, I can see my belly! Lol.

Replies (5)

Phew! Pleased it's all over with for you hun. I too had 7lbs removed in total and yes it is immediately very noticeable isn't it! I'm 7 weeks post op and struggling with the size of my tummy, I hadn't realised just how much my big boobs were hiding it! Make sure you rest up x x x
Thank you, I will.
Congratulations!! Wow! 7 lbs taken off that's great.... I'm a 34 G/Gg which is similar to an H I think.... I wonder how many lbs my breasts weigh! My dr said he'd be taking off about 1600 grams... Total. Does anyone have any idea how many bra sizes that is? I would like to be a C cup when this is all said and that will be on June 9th!
Hey GG2C, I had 7lbs removed in total and was a GG, I'm nearly 8 weeks post op and am currently a small C. The surgeon couldn't believe how heavy my boobs were. We agreed on a 50 - 60% removal as its hard for the surgeon to visualise a cup size. I said if she was still unsure I wanted to be on the smaller side then bigger. Mine were very dense, hence the weight of the removed tissue - some peoples reviews I have read they've had a lot less removed but still have a great result and are still able to get down to their desired cup size. X x
I agree. My PS and I talked just before and I told him I would really like a C. He said he had to be careful about maintaining a blood supply, bit in the end, he told my husband that he believes he did get me to a C. They are so small right now and I am so happy with what I can see at the moment. I know over the next few months lots of things will change, but all in all, 7 pounds off my chest is awesome!! When my PS was doing his markups, he was also amazed at how heavy the were. He made a line on my belly where they sagged to, and I saw that line after and was so happy to see way above that line! It was a relief.
It's like carrying and having a new born baby lying on your chest 24/7 isn't it hun. I've even noticed an improvement in my asthma too. Yes my surgeon said the same to me before the procedure and as long as the supply could be maintained to the nipple she'd get me as small as she could. She didn't let me down. :).
Congratulations. I know you must feel so much better after having 7 lbs removed. Hope you have a quick and smooth recovery. I'm hoping for similar results in 2 weeks!
Thank you! So thankful to finally be on recovery road. Waiting was so hard. You will be so happy when you cross over. :-). Wishing you the best.
I discovered quite a tummy myself. Ugh. But I knew it was there. Just not used to seeing it. I have worked on my tummy before and had it pretty well down, so I know I will be able to do that again once I heal from this. I am resting well and have an amazing suppport team here. Thank you!
Well done! Glad you are on the other side now x heal well x
