Provider Review
I spent years and insane amounts of money trying to correct the melasma on my cheeks. Each time, I'd try a new procedure or product, my melasma not only got worse, but I also developed PIH from overly aggressive treatments. I'm half Afro-Cuban, half Guatemalan, with very thick and oily skin, so my skin appears that it can take a lot of abuse. In reality, the spectrums of melanin in it, if treated incorrectly, will produce even more color and even scar. The worse my skin looked, the worse I felt about myself. My confidence got so low that I even stopped socializing because I didn't want my friends or family to see my face. I came to see Dr. Emer as a last resort. My experience with him and his staff exceeded my expectations. After examining my face, he recommended I try the Cosmelan peel. I was very scared, considering the VI Peel I received from another office made my skin 100% worse. Still, my gut told me to trust him, and my instincts were bolstered by my skin consultant there, Jonathan Kohanim, and nurse, ReVay. Jonathan recommended a full change in my skin care routine. In the two weeks that I was on his regime BEFORE the Cosmelan peel, my skin already looked better and I was receiving compliments. During the peel, ReVay stayed in touch with me every single day, requesting daily pictures to monitor the process, as well as to metaphorically hold my hand during it (stay home for at least one week because you do look like either you've just emerged from a volcano or are related to reptile shedding its skin) After the peel, I FINALLY saw results! The PIH was nearly gone and the melasma was at least 75% improved. My only regret was not getting it sooner. Melasma is the bane of dermatologist and patient's existence, and VERY hard to treat. It requires patience (again this was explained to me at my consult). Still, Dr. Emer and his team have been the only ones to have put a dent in it. I feel confident that they will continue to do so with the array of expertise and emerging technology at their office.
