5 Year Touch-Up to SMP
As the pandemic ebbed and flowed over the past two years, I took to shaving my head down with a 0-1 guard clippers to avoid going to the barber. My wife really liked the look, but I noticed that I had some slight fading on the right side of my scar that Dr. Pak and the team at NHI had worked on 5 years ago – so I scheduled a touch up procedure earlier this summer. Cost was $1000. As you can see from the before photos, I had a visible strip scar in the back of my head from HT procedures. As a reminder, Dr. Pak and team did SMP into the scar and then layered about 300 FUE grafts over the SMP a few months later to provide some texture. The result 5 years ago was a nearly undetectable and I was able to buzz my hair quite short for the first time in decades.
As always, the experience with Dr. Pak ant the crew at NHI in LA was first class. I arrived around 7am to their beautiful modern offices. I had shaved my head down with a zero guard, and after meeting with Dr. Pak and his SMP tech (I believe he went by the name “Junior”) – I was given a sedative injection and my scar area was numbed. The best part of seeing a physician for SMP, aside from the incredibly clean and COVID compliant office, is the ability to receive the sedative and anesthetic. I slept through the entire touch-up procedure and woke up to have a catered lunch and look at my results. Dr. Pak and his team are absolute magicians in scar camouflage. The new photos were taken this morning with my head shaved down to zero – just stubble – and after the 5 year touch up the scare is all but invisible, and after 2 days of growth is undetectable.
I really can’t say enough about the impact that Dr. Pak and his team have had on my quality of life. I used to worry about how short my hair was cut, or if the scar would be visible if I went swimming. I can now wear my hair buzzed down or grow it out a bit with no worries. If you are considering SMP – I highly recommend Dr. Pak and the NHI team.

Please see above for detailed review. Dr. Pak is an outstanding physician with terrific experience, professionalism, empathy and overall demeanor. He understands the emotions and trauma his patients have dealt with in suffering with scars on their heads. He is also very realistic and up front about what can be achieved. He is also very patient and deliberate in his work. Highly recommended.
