WORTH IT
Dr. Emer is a miracle worker. I started seeing him over 3 months ago, after suffereing from a years worth of laser damage. The med spa I was seeing in Chicago did what I thought was irreversible damage until I was able to find Dr. Emer. I had unwanted baby fuzz on my chin and cheeks. It was treated repeatedly causing hair to grow in dark and course. It was a nightmare. Fine baby hair should never be treated on your face with laser!! Not only did I suffer from thick hair regrowth, but my face got completely discolored in the process. I am of Asian/European descent and my skin must be treated with care in order not to cause hypo/hyperpigmentation. I honestly when through hell trying to fix the damage and sadly, lost a lot of confidence. That was until I met Dr. Emer and staff. They are heaven sent. I really cannot say enough about how well they have treated me and best of all gave me the results I was searching for. Special shout out to Melissa his coordinator who is absolutely amazing. She was able to answer all my questions and explained how to use all the products Dr. Emer suggested. Also, Thank you to Walter and Anette and the front desk staff. All have made my visits something I can look forward to. To correct the pigmentation problem, Dr. Emer has suggested I do Clear and Brillant coupled with micro needling. The Clear and Brillant laser is gentle and feels a bit like a rubber band snap. The micro needling isn't as bad as it sounds! The needles make tiny traumas to skin in order to promote collagen and skin cell turnover. I can honestly say, I am in love with my skin now and it's only been a little over 3 months! All the treatments are gentle, yet EFFECTIVE! After a year or horror, I can look in the mirror and love how my face looks. ***Any woman of ASIAN or MIXED descent Dr. Emer is the doctor to see.*** --I will continue to update as treatments progress--

Dr.Emer,
Have you experienced Fraxel damage that consisted of loss of fat on the face, open pores, laser marks, hyper/hypo damage etc that you were successful in treating?
October 24, 2015
I have been using Fraxel since 2007, I was apart of the FDA clinical trials for the DUAL 1927nm wavelength. In all my experience I have never had a burn, skin damage from this laser. It also doesn't have the ability to cause fat loss in the face. I have had patients have hypopigmentation/hyperpigmentation and burns from other lasers that I have been able to improve. We do very detailed photography and skin care in my practice to follow the progress. We also do not rush, we develop relationships with patients and take baby steps to get to our goals.

Honestly Doctor it does have the ability to cause loss of fat. It happened to me and many many others here on Real Self.

Fraxel cannot cause fat atrophy, scientifically there is no way this is even possible. The laser depth is not deep enough to penetrate fat and the wavelength is not attracted by the fat cells. If it truly is the "fraxel" device and was performed by a board certified physician, there should be no complications. the device doesnt have the power and doesn't target fat. If you have atrophy or some complications from lasers i suggest you only see a board certified laser dermatologist or plastic surgeon to evaluate you and treat you appropriately. i wish you the best.

You have been misinformed doctor. When you have time read Everyone's comments regarding Fraxel damage. We have experienced the same symptoms. I'm hoping the doctors here will with an open mind look into this issue and try to find a solution. There are too many of us suffering from the damage.

Read Angela Walkers story. She researched and found all of the damage laser can cause. View the pics she posted, all the damage was a result of Fraxel Laser.

Lasers can cause skin damage no matter what type, especially if not performed by a fellowship trained laser dermatologist. But it cannot cause fat atrophy. There is no scientific way even possible. I suggest only seeing a board certified physician that is trained and is an expert when choosing these types of procedures. Best, Dr. Emer.

dr- why are there some DR's against lasers on brown skin? i went in for a consultation for some light acne scarring on my cheeks and was told she prefers microneedling over lasers due to risks of hyper pigmentation on my skin type. is this accurate?
July 27, 2016
No. Lasers have been used for years now to melt body fat. Radiofrequency and ultrasound are also being used to destroy fat cells.

Hello doctor, please review my question and photos on my page. My damage was caused by a vbeam laser. You answered to my question, but the first one I posted didn't have photos. Please let me know if the damage is reversible by any chance. Thank you♥

sadly, fat loss and skin damage from improper use of lasers is very real. I am living through the nightmare from one laser treatment. It has been the worst thing that has ever happened in my life. My face is destroyed and I barely make it through each day
