I have been suffering from hormonal acne since age 21. My breakouts had gotten progressively worse over the last 3 years, and recently began to spread from my jawline to my chin and cheeks. Messing with blemishes often left dark marks that lasted weeks to months. In the past I had tried peels, microdermabrasion, facials, birth control, and prescription creams in congruence with a high-maintenance and pricey 5-step, twice-a-day skincare routine. Previously, nothing succeeded at both reducing scarring and preventing future breakouts, so I sought out Dr. Karimi on the recommendation of a friend.

Essentially, microneedling is a procedure that induces collagen production to generate a new layer of skin. The whole procedure is painless and takes less than an hour, with the actual microneedling taking about 10-15 minutes. Dr. Karimi applied a serum containing growth factor and vitamins immediately after the microneedling, when the skin's absorption is increased by 90%. As for recovery, there was redness for a couple of days which I covered up easily with tinted moisturizer.

So far, this is the only treatment that not only cleared up my acne scars from previous breakouts, but also kept my hormonal breakouts at bay. I've paid comparable prices for high-end facials that helped but ultimately did not bring long-term results the way that this procedure did. Even though I saw immediate and long-lasting results, I still went back for a second treatment four months later because I wanted to maintain that "glow" and prevent future breakouts. My plan is to go every six months from now on, and I couldn't be happier with the results!

Sorry but I can't really see your scarring with the lighting in your photos. I can just see that you had acne and now you have none/less. Acne treatment is different to scarring treatment and your testimonial doesn't really help anyone understand whether needling is effective for scars. Meanwhile a lot of people say needing doesn't do anything for their scars, which is what people with real acne scarring would like to know. It's also natural for skin to look nice for a little while after a treatment, but we're really looking for permanent solutions and you posted 2 photos as well as getting treatment every month and a half. Please post an update with clearer before/after photos when you get the chance.

Sorry Cam, I didn't take professional "before" photos, so I don't have photos that truly show the extent of my scarring before getting the treatments. Since my breakouts were hormonal, the microneedling reversed the damage of 2-3 years of monthly breakouts along my jawline. The scarring was nearly eradicated by the microneedling, and the intensity of my breakouts has diminished greatly since i got the treatment. It has been about four months since my last treatment and I still feel that my skin is in great shape. It felt like the facial hit the "reset" button on my face--I still have to keep good skincare daily, but the overall condition is much easier to maintain. I hope that helps.

Thank you for sharing your review. Miconeedling can be helpful for mitigating minor acne scars. The controlled injury promotes the growth of new, more organized collagen. If your skin isn't too sensitive, you might want to ask your doc for prescription Kinerase tretinoin topical Vit A. This will help with acne scars, healing and future outbreaks. This is a powerful topical and less is more. It is not to be confused with non-prescription retinol which is both weaker and more mild, thus easier on the skin. Also, there is Spiranolactone, which is like a wonder drug for clearing active acne, but is powerful and requires time for the body and skin to adjust. I mention these things for a purpose: needling should never be done over anything but clear uninflected skin. This includes herpes type 1, acne, rosacea, dermatitis or any problem areas. To miconeedle with Dermapen or rollers will only spread the problem. I mention this since other posters may be unacquainted with the process. For those with acne scars who wish to learn more, an excellent primer is available from the Milady series on Microneedling which can be found on Amazon. To DP1990- you are very young. As such, the hormonal acne may return, but I certainly hope not. Keep Spiranolactone in mind if this should occur. You don't want your money/healing/ good skin to be revisited with scars. Spiranolactone is a progesterone antagonist that is well tolerated long term. The initial adjustment phase can be unpleasant.DP-1990- one question: what was the serum your doctor used on your skin? Those of us who needle would love to know. Best of luck to you and stay clear!

Thanks LaTrec! Sorry for the delayed response, I wasn't sure of the exact type of serum so I waited until my appointment today with Dr Karimi to ask. He uses MesoVitaTrace serum with vitamin B gel. He also does PRP instead of serum which I did for the first time today-can't wait to see the results!
