I had Gastric Bypass in April 2002. It is the best thing I have ever done for ME. The first 2 to 3 months can be hard but after that it is a breeze. Just think how excited you will be when we get on the scales daily or once a week and see the number keep dropping. And all the new clothes you will need to buy. It took me years before I could throw away my fat clothes but they are all gone now. Just use the new tool as it is intended. Good luck to you and send us your updates. Are you paying for this or is your insurance? $45,000 seems really high to me.

The insurance not me..at least that is what the dr said.."expensive procedure" maybe i should ask for the exact amount.

I stayed on the pain mess in the hospital and all I wanted to do was sleep! Every time I pressed the button, I went to sleep, lol. The hardest part was the gas! Don't get me wrong, I was sore too. It was tough to roll over in bed and get up and down from sitting for about a week but I didn't take any pain Meds at all. I tried children's Tylenol once and it was terrible! It made my pouch burn. I think I could feel right where the staples are. Needless to say I just toughed it out. I was uncomfortable for a week. The gas pain lasted about a week too. I was walking all the time with my arms straight up in the air. That's what my nurse told me to do :) the gas pain was the worst in my shoulders. My doctors office said that gas-x isn't necessary... I disagree. I did the strips that dissolve on your tongue. That helped a lot.
Good luck in your journey!

I had my gall bladder removed during my Gastric Bypass but then again I had an open surgery with a scare from my breast bone to my pubic bone (after Tummy Tuck) I paid for my tummy tuck because I wanted it so badly ($5,000) but I bet if I would have waited I could have got my insurance to pay for it as I had this huge apron of skin and I had terrible rashes under it that burned and itched all the time. The skin was bright red. It was awful. I did get insurance to pay for my breast reduction because I went from a DD to a B cup. I had to do that for insurance to pay and I had no regrets. But now I am thinking about getting a small C cup. I really do wish you the best of luck. Keep us all informed.

if your excess skin causes you pain from rashes, blisters, infections or just chafing you'll have a good chance of getting insurance to cover the removal surgeries, my surgeon told me to document everything and when possible to take pictures and consult my GP so that there is a paper trail so to speak and I will have documentation for the insurance company.
When you go in pack an overnight bag, take slippers and a robe so you can go walking. I would recommend braiding your hair so its easy to brush and wash after surgery, and bring shampoo from home if you're going to shower before your discharged home since hospital shampoo is really hard on your hair. Also cook a few days of meals ahead of time so you have something ready once your ready to move off the clear diet.
After the surgery to pain wasn't so bad for me. it was akin to the pain day after having my daughter, your stomach WILL hurt but it should be agonizing, take the Norco's that they give you and you'll be just fine and after a few days start experimenting with your limitations and lowering the dose of pain meds.
