I bought this because I want to even my pigment and maybe fade a few light acne scars. I read the dangers of doing IPL WITH DARK SKIN and didn't really see any reviews showing how it works on darker skin (I am IV-V) on this site. The research I found mentioned that lowering the settings was vital for darker skin. I was very comfortable whwn I was told that due to my dark skin I would be at a lower setting and that due to the lower setting I wouldn't really see any results until after my third session. More importantly she said that darker skin wouldn't have as dramatic effects as pale skin either. This helped me adjust my expectations for the effectiveness of IPL on dark skin. Since I paid $170 for three sessions with groupon I won't be gutted if the results are far less than I want.
She was really good at making sure I the laser was not too hot on my skin and when I left my skin wasn't red and I felt just fine. I see on here that the burns don't show up immediately so I will update this in two weeks to show how my skin looks. I need to take my first after pics but here are some before (although I don't think the lighting is good for showing the discoloration)

Of course the lighting is not the same so you can't really see a huge difference. definitely evened skintone but I think the lower setting meant slower results. I would not do IPL again but I am trying a chemical peel which is more ideal for darker skin.

The risk is with someone who doesn’t know to adjust for dark skin- she did and while I wasn’t really excited by the results I never had any bad results - but if you are dark skinned don’t bother with IPL do microneedling with PRP

Hi, I'm a black woman and am just a bit lighter than you. If you saw an earlier post, I went to Seoul and got an IPL + another laser. My face was super burnt but told me it was going to be that way for a week. I have healed very nicely and am super happy. My advice if you have tan/brown skin is to know if you burn/scar or not. If you don't scar or keloid you can be more aggressive; however, if you scar even in the slightest, be conservative with treatment. I had laser tattoo removal and laser hair removal done without any complications. Only you know your skin.

In the end it wasn’t as aggressive as I needed. While my skin looked nice it didn’t do anything for scars or discoloration
