Superb Result.

Dr. G is a fantastic surgeon who I was fortunate enough to stumble across on Realself, thus I hope this review will be equally as helpful for those looking into the procedure.

Before I go into my result I'll mention how I decided upon Ivo for my surgeon. The narrowing down of a surgeon for me was quite easy, however I understand why some people get so confused with the myriad of doctors preforming the procedure. The first thing I looked at was how high the potential surgeons rhinoplasty success rating was on this site. I was very ruthless on this, any more than three unsatisfactory rhinoplasty reviews and you were dropped from the list.
Once I reached the point where all of my potential surgeons has an almost perfect rhino reviews I narrowed them down further by eliminating those who lacked craniofacial training. For me this was important not least because there are very few of these guys in the UK, so those who have achieved this status have great experience in the area and because of that often specialize purely on the head/face area. The nose aesthetically is closely linked to other facial areas like the cheek bones, chin and orbitals, so having a surgeon with extensive knowledge of the facial area as a whole (ratios, proportions ect) I assumed to be crucial for a natural looking result. Ivo's cranio training in America was very reassuring, as the majority of the best cranio surgeons tend to be found in America.
Secondly I looked at surgeons who are preforming revision rhinoplasty on a regular basis. These surgery's tend to be far more difficult that the original procedure due to working around scar tissue, damages made by the previous surgeon ect so when you find a Dr who preforms these regularly, you know you're in safe hands.
Ultimately when I went in for a consult with Ivo I had narrowed it down to three surgeons, however after chatting to Ivo about my options I decided to go ahead with the surgery. Ivo identified my concerns quickly, talked a lot about a natural looking result and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. This added to my earlier points meant that I had no real reason to even consult with my other two options because I didn't feel they had anything over him.

I remained in email contact with Ivo right up to the day of surgery. This for me was brilliant. I don't recall having had to go through Ivo's secretary once, I organised everything direct with the doc. This ease of contact with the surgeon was not only convenient but also very reassuring. For example two days prior to the surgery I was called in for a pre-surgery assessment which had to take place a day before the actual surgery (I assumed this was probably meant to have taken place much earlier but the holiday period seemed to have taken it's toll on the administration side of things). So essentially it was no notice. I couldn't get any extra time off work (booked a lot off for recovery), concerned that my surgery could be cancelled I contacted Ivo and explained the situation. He made some calls to theater team and the problem was sorted. Would it have been sorted that quickly if I was unable to contact the Doc himself? Possibly not. Any pre-surgery nerves were also quickly calmed via email.
On the day of surgery Ivo came round and chatted again about the surgical plans. I also met the anesthetist who laid to rest the many fears I had over the anesthetic (Should never have watched Hayden Christiansen's 'Awake').
Post surgery Ivo told me everything went brilliantly and said my surgery was one of the best rhino's he had preformed.
Splints and cast were removed 7 days post surgery. An immensely unpleasant experience. However that was quickly forgotten once I saw the result. Far surpassed anything I had imagined. Nasal bridge slimmed, dorsal ridge was shaved down beautifully and the tip rotated and refined to perfection. All concerns corrected and expectations exceeded.
I believe I told Ivo that I thought his work was artistry, because that for me sums it up. My nose is now not just smaller, but chiseled and defined, whilst keeping hold of a masculine look.

Whilst searching for a rhinoplasty surgeon I came across a surprisingly large number of unsatisfied patients on sites like this as well as various forums, whilst some of this is out of the patients control; maybe the surgeon has a bad day, poor surgical plan, not properly understanding the patients concerns ect, I believe so many unsatisfied results can be avoided by strict research. I've seen people decide to have a nose job done and just head down to their local clinic, no research, no analysis. I think that a lot of this has to do with how commonly preformed rhinoplasty is and also how the media often portray the ''nose job'' making it seem like a light weight procedure.
Technically it's one of the toughest plastic surgery's a surgeon can preform and the fact that it's the such a focal point of your face means that if anything goes wrong it could be disastrous.
