I have never considered myself fat, obese or...

I have never considered myself fat, obese or overweight. However I have always had a little bit of a wobbly belly which has made me very self conscious. I had previously tried to get rid of my excess fat through exercise and diet (I am a strict vegan and ex International athlete), but with little success.
When I met with Doctor Gupta of The Private Clinic on London's famous Harley Street, he told me I had stubborn pockets of fat on my stomach that, if I wished, could be removed. The fact that I was in good health made me a good candidate for a new technique called microcannular tumescent liposuction 'microlipo'.
Microlipo gets its name from the tiny size of the cannulas used to extract the fat, the smallest of which is just 0.9mm wide. Doctor Gupta, one of the UK’s leading Aesthetic Physicians, is also currently the only doctor in Europe to practice Microcannular Tumescent liposuction, or ‘Microlipo’. He was given advanced training in the US from the inventor of the method and lipo pioneer, Dr Jeffrey Klein.
On the day itself I was pretty nervous. Doctor Gupta assured me that this was normal. As I walked into the clinic I was met by Doctor Gupta who was smiling and waiting for me. We chatted as we had done previously during our consultation a month before. Doctor Gupta gave me a sleeping tablet and four pain killers to make me feel relaxed and I stripped down to my Ann Summers to begin the process.
Doctor Gupta drew circles (six incision points) on my body. For half-an-hour or so, using long tubular skewers called micro cannulas, Doctor Gupta injected 3 litres of fluid into the areas he was treating. The fluid works as an anaesthetic and it also helps to dislodge the fat. As I was left on the table for fifteen minutes my stomach swelled and as I poked it out of curiosity it wobbled and I laughed. Doctor Gupta watched on and said "please don't do that!"
The operation was performed under local anaesthetic, which meant I could chat to Doctor Gupta the whole time. (Two and a half hours). We laughed and joked and I felt completely at ease with what was going on.
The removing of the fat was really very easy. Doctor Gupta smiled each time he found a pocket with fat. I was on the table for two and a half hours, and Doctor Gupta thought I might go to sleep during the procedure but I continued to giggle, laugh and joke the whole time. I did start to become restless after a while and could not help but lifting my head every now and then to take a look.
I was fascinated by the jar of fat that was filling up. During the procedure I asked Doctor Gupta ho much fat he thought he would remove and he said he was expecting to remove a litre and a half. Doctor Gupta told me that I made him feel very relaxed during the procedure by telling jokes. He did however put it down to the sleeping tablet making me giggly. He continued to ask if I was experiencing and discomfort, which I wasn't. Although he was dealing with a girl who had more tattoos than she could count for!
By the end of the procedure Doctor Gupta removed a litre and a half of fat. The nurse put patches over my stomach and a corset was put on top to keep everything in place and to stop further swelling. I wasn't in any pain. I put my skinny black jeans back on and my baggy t shirts and drank a cup of tea. By the time I had drunk my cup of tea Doctor Gupta was already with his next patient. I rang my friend and went and had lunch!
Doctor Gupta told me to wear the under garment for three days after surgery. I was given three tablets to take over the following twenty eight days and was told not to drink any alcohol for 48 hours afterwards. The only thing I found difficult was the day after in bed, getting up from lying down. It was much easier to sit than to lie down. The next day I could see the results and I was impressed. There was hardly any swelling. It will however take six weeks to see the final results.
Would I consider having anything else done? Absolutely, but to be honest I'm not sure anywhere else on my body needs it. I've told three friends who are actors and they are already considering it. I certainly don't regret going through with it. It also means I can wear tight t shirts as opposed to baggy ones. I'm happy! To be honest I have experienced worst times at the dentist. There's always loud strange noises at the dentist and it always smells funny. This was much easier – there were no loud noises or odd sounds from the instruments used. Just the odd sound from the speakers in the surgical theatre, which turned out to be Coldplay!
