I've had dark circles and noticeable tear troughs...

I've had dark circles and noticeable tear troughs all my life (inherited from my father and his family), but after I turned 25, it started to quickly get worse. There was not a single photo of myself that I liked, because on each of them, I saw a tired 35+ lady who's lived a hard life instead of a young and pretty girl I expected to see.

I've never had fillers, and, in fact, any serious procedures on my face before, that's why on the day of treatment I was terrified. I had my treatment at Milo Clinic in London with Dr. Nick Milojevic.

Dr. Nick managed to somehow reassure me that everything's going to be OK. He told me that I need at least 1 syringe of filler under each eye, because my tear troughs are quite deep, and also I have a loss of volume on the outer sides of my eyes, where the orbital bone lies. He said that the final result can only be judged in 4-6 weeks, because before that time, the filler is still 'settling' and the tissues might still be traumatised.

After 6 weeks, he said, I might want to come back for one more syringe - or I might not, if I am happy with the result. He honestly told me that with my situation, he will be able to make it better by 80%, but I should not expect miracles and expect my dark circles and troughs to be magically wiped away for 100%.

The treatment itself was completely painless, not even unpleasant. I didn't feel a thing. It took just 3-5 minutes. Right after the treatment, I could instantly see that my troughs were no longer there. I had a few pinpricks here and there, but nothing too bad, and was able to comfortably make my way home.

I had my treatment at 9.30 am in the morning. In 6-7 hours after the treatment, under my eyes started to swell (which is expected), and I applied cold compresses and kept doing so for a few hours before I went to sleep. For the night, I applied Arnica cream and I slept the whole night on my back (as recommended by doctor).

The next morning I woke up to see that the swelling went down a bit, but the bruises became more prominent. I kept applying Arnica cream 4 times a day, and it was getting better and better.

Long story short, in 24 hours after the treatment, I was able to go out with some bruising and swelling still noticeable, but nothing too bad - people were not pointing fingers at me. In 48 h, I camouflaged bruising with make-up and went out confidently. You could see in the daylight that there is something weird to my face, if you looked attentively, but in the evening I looked 100% normal with my make-up on.

It's now been 3 days since my treatment, and I am planning to go back to work tomorrow. The swelling is 90% gone, and the little bruising I have can easily be covered with make-up. Although I know that the final result is to be judged in 6 weeks, I am confident that I'm going to love it, because I already love what I see. Even with some bruising and swelling still noticeable, I can tell that I look so much better than I used to look before the treatment.

To everyone who is in doubt: go for it, you're going to love it! But make sure you prepare well:

1. Book days off work or work from home - you'll need at least 4 days (or more if you are unlucky) before you can confidently go out in the daylight.

2. Start taking Arnica tablets 1 day before the procedure, and keep taking them for 5 days total. I did this and it seemed to massively help.

3. Apply cold compresses when your eyes start to swell. My doc told me not to touch under my eyes for at leat 6h after the injection. Signs of swelling started in 6-7 hours, and this is when I applied cold and kept doing so for 3-4 hours. Sleep on your back on day 1.

4. Apply Arnica cream after the compresses and keep doing so until bruising and swelling is gone

5. Follow your doc's recommendations.

6. Make sure the injector is a doctor (not a nurse or beautician) and is experienced with tear trough treatments in particular.

Do not go crazy over the swelling, bruising and lumpiness you're going to see in the first days. I had quite bad lumpiness that magically wiped away within one night. Be patient and give it time - it will resolve!

I've tracked my progression with a series of photos in hope that people who are in doubt can see how well it worked out and consider taking this fantastic procedure.

If you are in London, go to Dr Milojevic who is just awesome. I am his biggest fan from now :)

Dr Nick was very reassuring and professional. I didn't even feel discomfort during the procedure. Recovery time was short. For the follow-up - Dr Nick does not have follow-up appointments until the patient thinks it's necessary and calls in to book. I didn't, so cannot really feed back on this.
