WORTH IT$1,250
I struggled with melasma for 10 years, wore sun protection every day (Heliocare SPF 50+) to prevent the pigmentation to form. I initially got the melasma after I had IPL on my face and this treatment triggered the over production of melanin and my pigmentation started forming on my cheeks, upper lip and forehead like dark clusters. I have in the last 10 years tried everything (I mean everything!!!) to get rid of the melasma, I tried fraxel - If you have melasma, I would recommend you not to bother with this as it is very expensive it will not treat the melasma. Fraxel is good for many other things but not melasma. I have tried Obagi Nu derm which I find only suppress the pigmentation and the moment you stop, it comes back and very quickly as well. I have used Obagi twice with the same effect. I have tried various peels and needling treatments and nothing worked!! I tried Cosmelan for the first time in November 2014. The treatment is a thick yellow mask that you leave on for 10 hours after you leave your clinic. I woke up the following day and my face felt tight and warm. In the next few days my face looked like I had a bad sun burn. I had the treatment on a Friday (I work in an office environment so I had Saturday and Sunday off) and over the weekend I stayed indoors as I looked like a tomato. On Monday I went to work, I looked terrible but I persevered and told my colleauges as there was no way to disguise it (If you are having cosmelan and you don't have a relaxed work place, I would advise that you take a week off work) and they were cool about it although I saw some horrified glances from some people, but to be honest I didn't care. On day 3 I started flaking a lot and using the maintnance cream help to get a better result although I found this stung slightly. The redness starting going down after the first week and I started applying a bit of Lycogel concealer to tone down the redness. Applying a full face of foundation is still not possible at this stage as the peeling was making it look messy. The full recovery took about 3-4 weeks when the skin started glowing.
It is now 10 months since I had the treatment and I am still very happy with the result. I have been very careful with exposing my skin to the sun and went on a holiday to greece and found that the pigmentation cam back slightly but no where near as it was before. I still use the cosmelan maintenance cream to top up the result. I really recommend this treatment. It does require a bit of 'down time' - 1 week! But definitely worth it!!!

Thank you. That was very helpful. Did you ever try vitamin e oil?

Great, happy you found it helpful. No I don't use vitamin E oil.
I use the Vital Factor K cream which is also from Cosmelan to hydrate and Vitamin C serum (15% ascorbic) to brighten the skin. Also use Vitamin C powder occasionally (from Cosmedix) to mix in with creams.

Hi, Had you tried glycolic peel before maybe ?

Hi Mermolada, yes many times. However, it doesn't treat melasma. It's very mild.

Oh, I've used 20% a few times, no result.
Did you buy melasma kit online maybe and use it on your own or go to a doctor?

Yes me too, tried everything from Mandelic peels to glycolic.. Just doesn't work.
I had the treatment in a medispa clinic in London called EF MEDISPA but the brand that distributes the peel is called Mesoesthetic and you can find them here http://www.mesoestetic.co.uk/ The Cosmelan kit is so good and they also have a Dermamelan peel which I have not tried, but I believe it is stronger and has to be done by a doctor. I would not advise buying the peel from an unauthorized company as there are a lot of fake products on the market or out of date batches which means that they won't be effective. However, in theory, the peel could easily be done from home as it is easy to apply but it is good to have a professional therapist/dermatologist to consult for aftercare support. The dramatic peeling can be a bit scary if you do not have someone to call and you are feeling apprehensive.

Oh, thank you. some women buy cosmelan on ebay. Wonder whether it makes sense. Ill look up whether mesoestetic.co.uk sells it online!
Do you think it makes sense to use it over hands/legs ? can it cost an arm and a leg?

http://www.wellnesstrading.co.uk/professional-size-products/browse/33-dermamelan?sef=hc thers an online store. I will compare pricing at ebay with this one's. The latter ( recommended by the company) is reliable for sure so the choice seems very easy.
Thank you so much xoxox

OK, Ive tracked an alleged distributor in Poland, and the online store that reportedly cooperates with them and is reliable. I'm in the process of assessing their credibility. Hopeful to make a purchase soon.
THANK YOU!!!
I'll never suntan again! always 50+ spf on!

It can definately be used on arms and legs, but you will probably need a few pots of Cosmelan 1, so it may end up costing a bit... :( Perhaps you can get the authentic Cosmelan on eBay but I also know people who have bought online and products have been fake and treatment has had no effect. My friend spent loads on Skinceautical and Cosmelan creams and they all turned out to be fake.. Worth asking around for advice on realself if someone bought genuine Cosmelan online and can recommend an authorised seller. Best of luck !!

hi, can I ask if your melasma was deep or superficial? also is it completely gone? was it quite mild to begin with? is the upper lip melasma also gone?
how soon you saw full results?

Hi, I had deep set moderate melasma. Only specialist make up would slightly cover it (like lycogel etc) if that makes sense. The Cosmelan did get rid of the pigmentation, especially on the upper lip, it's all gone there now! It took about a month for full healing but I could start seeing result about 10-12 days after the treatment but I still had peeling at that stage.

Hi, does deep set mean it was in the dermis or was it still epidermal? Thanks in advance for your kind answer!

hi, yes, would be good to know if you had a formal diagnosis for dermal melasma or mixed melasma. I had dermamelan peel which is much stronger than cosmelan but it only removed the superficial pigment. Cosmelan only removes the epidermal and doesn't affect pigment deep in the dermis. Please comment if you have been diagnosed with dermal melasma. Thanks

I have been diagnosed with dermal melasma.

Hi there, have you heard about potential adverse effect of cosmelan treatment while having isotretinoin treatment maybe?
I have something that looks like heat rash on my calves.
Im having calcium , which i do in the summer too, until heat rash disappears. Don't know whether its typical:-/

The IPL also triggered the super dark clusters on my cheeks. It was never that bad until after the IPL. Strange that certain professionals recommend the IPL and others say to stay away from it for melasma. Thankfully, I am in an office that is relaxed so I am hoping to not have any "down time" from work. We will see....I am sitting here in my 2nd hour of having the mask on.

Yup, It is crazy if any professionals are still recommending IPL for melasma today.. I suppose if someone has mild pigmetation IPL works well but its a russian roulette as it could just trigger and lead to worse pigmentation and as in our case.. a deep case of melasma! :( Happy for you that you are getting cosmelan done, seeing the results are so exciting! Just focus on the results when the peeling is at its worst and redness is bright, it will be worth it in the end [RS bleep]

Hi fluffy can I ask how your Melasma is now? Cosmelan cost $1250 over here so I'm scared to fork out that amount of money for another failure. Also once the pigmentation faded dos you notice any broken capillaries? I was reading another thread about it. Thanks :)

Hi there,

My melasma is virtually gone. I have been using the maintenance cream on and off since I had the treatment but since the cream has run out about 2 months ago I am only using my usual regime* (*Vitamin C serum and high SPF).
Just do it! The Cosmelan is a real game changer, the results are dramatic but if you also continue to use the cosmelan 2 maintenance cream you can expect even more amazing results!
I have not had any problems with broken capillaries, never heard of that happening associated with Cosmelan actually.
True - It is a bit pricey but worth every penny!

I went ahead and got my cosmelan mask today, I'm all kinds of anxious and nervous I'm scared of making it worse. I have been diagnosed dermal 'severe' Melasma so I do not have great expectations but have hugely high hopes. I'll be happy with any lightening especially on the moustache! Just curious do you know if the cosmelan mask you used was the MD with HQ. Or the standard treatment that doesn't contain it? The one I'm being treated with doesn't contain it and I'm hoping its strong enough!
