WORTH IT
It has been a year and a half since I had my Diep flap breast reconstruction. I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge, praise and truly thank Dr. Redstone and his staff for making a trying time in my life a positive experience. Dr. Redstone performed the breast reconstruction immediately after a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with DCIS. From the moment I met Dr. Redstone, he made me feel comfortable. He is genuinely caring ...amazingly compassionate and he is a perfectionist. With ever visit, he spent as much time as was necessary to explain everything in great detail in terms I could understand. He always seemed to understand and never dismissed any of my concerns. Allison was always so friendly and made me feel like her friend, rather than a patient. Joel was always so kind and attentive to my needs and/or concerns. At the time, I was confident I made the right choice and I was in good hands. And a year and a half later, I am so happy. My breasts look and feel natural and look amazing. My stomach is flat with very minimal scarring. My experience from beginning to end was flawless.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I had bilateral mastectomy in June with DIEP flap reconstruction. I unfortunately had skin and tissue necrosis, not of the flaps, of the native breast skin. I have been doing dressing changes twice daily, tomorrow will be four months since surgery. It will be my first day of no dressing changes! My breasts are hard and lumpy. I love my surgeon, I don't blame him for any of this. He has been amazing. He is always very encouraging, telling me that all will be well. I am worried that the hard lumps are fat necrosis. I have that along about a two inch stretch of my 20" abdominal incision. I truly hope that someday I am as happy as you are. Right now I wonder if I made the right decision. Continued good health to you, and thanks for sharing your story.
