Life changing
Ok this is my first review of this surgeon but my 2nd procedure with him in 6 years. I never thought after my first procedure (abdominoplasty) that he could surpas how he made me feel! This guy gave me my confidence back and I couldn’t have been more grateful. Fast forward 6 years and here I am again one week post op after having breast reduction surgery. I don’t actually think it’s hit me yet just what this amazing man has yet again done for me! I just keep staring at my new breasts thinking these are actually mine, the guy is a miracle worker and quite honestly my hero. Anyone who knows me well knows I have a fragile body image and low opinion of myself due to firstly my tummy after having a huge baby via c-section 20 years earlier resulting in my tummy muscles being totally obliterated but Nick Rhodes rebuilt me and gave me back my confidence and he just did it all over again a week ago! Not sure I’m brave enough to put my before pictures on just yet but eventually I will when I continue to update this review over the coming weeks & months.
I’m quite a small frame, 5’ 3 and my huge boobs made me look fat and made me feel matronly! I decided something needed to be done so I went to see Nick Rhodes. He agreed they were way too big for my frame & after a long chat about what to expect, complications, expectations etc etc my surgery was booked for the 14th September 2017. I was totally nervous right up to being put to sleep by his lovely anaesthetist Khaled Ismail my blood pressure was through the roof with nerves!! Anyway off I went to sleep and was woken up 3 hours later all finished. I don’t really remember much about my time in the recovery room but I do remember a conversation with Mr Rhodes about how much he’d taken off & how much it weighed & feeling disappointed that it didn’t seem like a lot!! He then said do you want to look.........! They lifted off my theatre gown and there was the most fabulous perfectly formed breasts, gone were my huge pendulum matronly like boobs and I really couldn’t quite take in the difference in how they looked!! I could only see them while laying down from above but even that view was amazing. A few hours later feeling rather uncomfortable, I asked the nurses to help me to the toilet as I was still very woozy from the GA and attached to drains Etc, while I was in the bathroom I dropped my theatre gown over my shoulders & looked in the mirror and saw the full extent of just what this truly talented guy had done for me and I was Speechless! Actually made me cry. Like I said above I don’t think it’s actually hit me yet that I’ve actually had it done! I wake up every morning and I think I still have huge boobs but then I look in the mirror.
I cannot recommend this guy enough, he’ll change your life xx

Hi
Thanks so much for posting such a detailed explanation of your journey so far, your post op photos of your breasts are fantastic and how I'd like mine to be. Hope that doesn't sound too weird, I used to be a Theatre nurse so I was used to seeing boobs most days!
I'm currently waiting to have the same procedure with Nick Rhodes too so it's great to read a review from someone who has seen the same surgeon. I'm not able to have the surgery yet as I'm overweight and my health is a little complicated due to disability I sustained during the birth of my second child. She's fine though thank god! I had to take early ill health this year so now I've now got more time to myself so I've decided to do something for me. I actually used to work with Consultant Anaesthetist Khaled Ismail
at Dewsbury District Hospital and also looked after me in ICU after having my daughter. He's such a lovely man so I hope it's him who anaesthetises me when I'm ready.
I need to lose more weight before I'm fit for anaesthetic then I'll post some "before" photos. I also have quite marked, obvious asymmetry so that is affecting my confidence and self esteem. Reading your posts has made me smile and given me hope, thank you!

Good morning, it doesn’t sound weird at all, it’s a huge compliment. Im so sorry to hear about your health issues after the birth of your baby. I’m glad you found my review helpful, I wasn’t going to do one but before my surgery I found other people’s journeys helpful to me being so nervous as I was!! Don’t know why I was so nervous though because the whole experience was just amazing, from my care at the hospital to my recovery.
You have chosen the best surgeon, he’ll change your life like he has done twice for me. As for his Anaesthetist Khalid Ismail, surgeons generally work with the same one so you should get him for your operation. He was so funny while he was putting me to sleep, took my mind off the stress of the situation and it didn’t feel like two minutes (not 3 hours) when he was waking me up making me laugh again!
Good luck with everything and I look forward to hearing about your journey on here. L x

Thanks for your reply, I definitely feel more assured and confident about the surgery when I'm ready. Sorry for wittering on about my medical history and thank you for your kind comments. I guess I just mentioned it because it makes it harder to lose weight and I want the operation asap! Hope I haven't bored you too much!
I'm hoping to add some "before" photos by Christmas if I'm reasonably happy with my weight loss

Don’t apologise, we all have our battle scars from childbirth that’s why we deserve to have ourselves put back together : ) you are in excellent hands with Mr Rhodes so good luck with your weight loss and can’t wait to hear that you’ve booked your surgery L xx

May I ask how big your breast were before your surgery. I'm having a breast reduction myself 2018

Such an uplifting and positive story. My stomach and boobs look pretty much like your before shots but my boobs are probably a bit bigger. Did you have implants as well or is that all your own breast? You look amazing and he looks like he did fabulous contouring with liposuction on your boobs and stomach. Xx

December 31, 2017
Thank you VBnew both operations have been the best decision I’ve ever made. I don’t have implants, it’s just my own breast tissue, he had a lot to use!! I didn’t have lipo on my boobs or tummy, the only place I had it was a tiny bit on my back.
My surgeon is very talented, couldn’t have picked a better one.
Good luck if you choose to have surgery, it’ll be the best money you ever spend. L x

Hi Tracey, thank you for your comment. I too am 5’3, I was a 34E/F and after surgery I’m a 34D, I would have preferred a C cup but to be honest they don’t actually look like a D cup in the flesh!
Good luck with your op, it is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Xx

Stockings & drains
I was pretty much awake the whole night after my surgery, Emma, the lovely nurse brought me a cup of tea & a cheese sandwich (that had been left in the fridge for me) but I could only manage a couple of very small bites as it was too craggy & my throat was so dry & sore from the anaesthetic I thought I’d choke if I ate anymore!!
So there I was sat with a drain in each breast, a drip attached containing fluid & an automatic blood pressure monitor. Not forgetting the lovely surgical stockings!!! My right breast drain was filling up fast so had to be emptied during the night. I’d had a tiny amount of liposuction on my back, that really felt quite uncomfortable and I’d developed a large swelling on my left hand side of my back by morning. My boobs till this point hadn’t given me any pain or discomfort at all and I was only taking paracetamol.
Mr Rhodes came in to see me at 6:30am, he said the swelling on my back was nothing to worry about and was perfectly normal (but of course I still did worry about it!) it stayed most of th day & was quite painful but by around 5pm it had gone down.
I had a string of visitors all of which wanted a sneaky peak!! Before surgery I remember saying to someone ‘I won’t be showing anyone so don’t ask, at the end of the day they are my boobs and I don’t show them to anyone now so why would I afterwards!! How wrong was I!! I was willing to show them to anyone who asked to look! I couldn’t quite believe how they looked still and the reactions of the people who looked said it all! I got a lot of ‘wow’ ‘omg’ ‘lucky you’ etc etc. Now everyone wants theirs doing!!
My husband didn’t really want me to have them done at all but knew how my body image affected me, but even he was totally amazed at what they now looked like, he just stood there looking and just said wow he’s done a really good job hasn’t he!
My drains were taken out just before lunchtime and I wasn’t really looking forward to it but it was over in a millisecond! Sarah the lovely nurse snipped the stitch holding the first one in and said take a deep breath and there it was out!! I didn’t even feel it. The 2nd one I felt only a tiny split second burning sensation & it was out. My cannula is removed and I’m now free of all my tubes etc. I could have gone home at lunchtime but to be honest I still felt really woozy every time I stood up and to be honest I was a bit worried about the swelling on my back still. By 5pm it had gone down so I went home.
The drive home was pretty uncomfortable, any slight movement from the car & I felt it!! We live on a very bumpy quite long farm track!!! Even though my husband drove very very slow boy did I feel every bump!!! But I was home, it was so quiet & peaceful, hospitals are such noisy places, there’s always someone pushing a metal trolly which rattles, room buzzers & doctors bleeps going off even through the night! So to get home was heaven.

Did you choose to stay at the hospital after the surgery or was it required?

October 5, 2018
Hi, it was a requirement of the hospital, I was in for two nights, but to be honest I can’t imagine going home the same day after major surgery. Not that I was in pain but I had a catheter and two drains and the effects from the anaesthetic can take a day or two to get over.
