Post-Op Period Photos from Liposuction/J-Plasma Performed by Dr. Sung

Post-Op Period Photos from Liposuction/J-Plasma Performed by Dr. Sung. From early on, it was readily apparent that I was botched. I immediately voiced my concerns as I did not look like any of the post-op photos that I had seen online. I was terribly worried that I was damaged - turns out that I was absolutely correct. Throughout all of this, I was told that I would heal and that I was "gonna love it". I was even told by the doctor that I looked good at this stage and he could see already that I was going to have a great result.

Dr. Sung Ruined My Arms & Destroyed My Life!

Dr. Sung performed Vaser lipo & J-Plasma on me in Sept. '22. Immediately after surgery, I was concerned about the appearance as my arms looked gruesome and disgusting. I was also concerned because the pain was excruciating and it lasted for a very long time. I didn't know it at the time, but the pain, severe bumpiness, and wrinkling was a sign that it was never going to heal in a way that looked normal or natural, let alone aesthetically pleasing.

I was burned from the inside out in several places, meaning I had scabs on the OUTSIDE of my skin from the devices that he placed inside. This resulted in nerve damage in one area - it has no feeling after 18 months and it will probably not come back. In that same area, the skin attached to the muscle as the fat layer was completely removed. There is a deep groove there now and it creates a bulge every time I bend that arm.

Looking at the photos, you can see how haphazardly the lipo was performed. There is no evenness. In general, I was over-suctioned, which is why the scar tissue that developed is so visible; there is no layer of fat to conceal it. However, there are also areas that were missed, further contributing to the irregular contouring.

The doctor reassured me for over a year that the scar tissue (bumps) would go away and that some people simply need more time to heal. While there is some truth in that, this was NOT my issue. If your results look as bad as mine did after a month, it's probably not going to heal the right way. At 6 months, if you still look bad, it's probably never going to change. I can say that nothing had changed in my appearance after the 6-month mark.

Since I trusted what my 5-Star, Pitt-trained, Board Certified plastic surgeon was telling me -- that the bumps would go away -- and since I couldn't imagine going through such a painful experience again, I asked him to start doing Kybella in the pockets of fat that he missed. I understand that Kybella is an expensive product, but he actually charged me for the product plus his administration for several applications until I told him that he should only charge me for the product. It bothers me that I had to ask for this, let alone pay at all. I had to pay to correct his mistakes.

Throughout the 16.5 months of doing all of this, he used his Tripolar radiofrequency device and Vivace radiofrequency microneedling to "soften the scar tissue". He did not charge me for this, but this did absolutely nothing as the real issue for me was the deficit in fat due to his over-suctioning. Everyone develops scar tissue after surgery. If too much fat is removed from the superficial fat layer, then there isn't enough cushioning between the scar and skin and you end up with what is commonly called "fibrosis".

In addition to the above, the skin tone is blotchy and from what I understand can be attributed to the cannula being passed too close to the skin. The doctor attempted to correct this with his lasers, which did nothing, of course. He did not charge for me this.

After 16.5 months, I went to him for my 6th Kybella treatment and laser treatment and I had a mental breakdown in his chair. I just broke out crying because my situation was just not improving. He also learned that I was being told by other professionals that he had "Eff'ed me up". I asked if this was ever going to go away. On that day, he finally conceded that it would not and that I needed a corrective fat grafting procedure. I asked how many; he said he hoped only 1 but that it could require more. Just one month prior, at 15.5 months post-op, I had also asked if I required fat transfer to correct the contour irregularities and he said that he didn’t think so. Basically, he reversed his opinion in a matter of a month. I find the timing to be very curious. He offered to do the correction for free with me paying for anesthesia only. I asked him to show me some before and after photos but he said he didn’t have any because he had never performed the procedure before.

I could not see myself entrusting my body in this man's hands again to do a procedure far more complex than lipo, however good his intentions, after the fact that his results form the original lipo were so poor and that he had left me looking so grotesque.

After 16.5 months of pain, nerve damage, being poked and prodded, financially drained, and gaslighted into believing that "I just needed more time", I realized that it was time to go get help -- elsewhere. I have just completed the first of several corrective fat grafting surgeries. I will require 6 months to heal before doing subsequent procedures, which I will certainly require. The fat grafting procedure is a re-traumatizing event that is painful and my arms look disgusting during the healing phase. My new surgeon tells me that this will go away and look better, but because I was told that same thing by Doctor Sung for 16.5 months, reassurance no longer works on me, so my anxiety has no relief. I have severe depression now. And had Dr. Sung told me at 6 months post-op that I needed a correction, I could have saved about a year of suffering.

If you consider the first surgery in Sept. 2022, plus the time I will need for more surgeries and healing, that means roughly 3 years of hiding my arms, living in compression garments and pain, and isolating myself from events where people wear T-shirts (like the gym or being outdoors in the summer). My life is total suffering now. And I will never look right, only less bad. I gave Dr. Sung $11.5k for the lipo and $12.7k for the Kybella. I spent $2k on massages. I spent $18.6 on the corrective surgery. Nearly $45k for nothing but hell. My request for refund from Dr. Sung resulted in him requiring that I first sign a waiver, which I rejected. My thoughts are that he should refund me for botching me and causing me a lifetime of suffering; not for my silence on the matter.

I regret every day that I allowed this to happen to me for my stupid vanity. If I could have my fat arms back, I would love them and hold them and kiss them and never do a thing to them. I am so sorry for what I have done to my poor arms.

PSA: DO NOT RELY SOLELY ONLINE REVIEWS! Dr. Sung had 5 stars when I chose him and zero bad reviews. Despite this, I ended up botched by his hands. Your diligence should go far beyond online reviews. Make sure you require many photos of past work. Try to talk to their other patients. And better yet, work on loving yourself more and avoiding surgery altogether."
