I got the results I wanted - not from the surgeon but diet and fitness

I have debated for months to post this review or not but I hope it will help others. This is review of Dr. Denk alone as his staff was incredible. I had lipo 360 and lipo of the inner thighs and upper back almost 1 year ago. Soon after the procedure I quickly noticed that my upper back was not bruised or tender like the rest of my body. I expressed my concerns with Dr. Denk and he told me to be patient with results as some results take months to come to fruition. I understood but something felt off.

At the next appt. I expressed my concerns again that my upper back had not changed, except this time I was now concerned that Dr. Denk had simply not done my upper back. He said that was the first time he had been accused of not doing an area that was paid for. I did make sure that I was kind in voicing my concerns. Dr. Denk proceeded to not reassure me that the area was done but simply told me how much was taken off of me and showed me my before pictures and did not focus on my upper back but called my lower half "Spongebob squarepants" (by the way at my upper back still looked the same). It was at this time that I no longer trusted Dr. Denk with my concerns which were very hard for me to verbalize in the first place.

The office staff was incredible during this and tried to set up more follow up appts with Dr. Denk to remedy the problem but at this point I felt incredibly uncomfortable with the thought of showing my body to Dr. Denk. The possibility to have surgery was there from the verbiage in the contract but I was terrified to go under sedation with a Doctor that I had told that I thought he missed an area. Also I felt as though I was clear in what I had asked Dr. Denk for in regard to how I wanted to look and made sure to ask if my expectations were realistic. He assured me they were and my results couldn't have been further from what I had asked for.

I do regret the whole experience and finally after 8 months post surgery and not seeing any further results, I got the results I wanted, not from Dr. Denk at all but from diet and fitness. I also recall Dr. Denk being critical of my diet and demonizing starchy carbs and saying "Those who eat the least live longer." It is this kind of language that reenforces horrible relationships with food. I would hope that he had not called anyone else's lower half "spongebob Squarepants" because I left that day feeling so incredibly horrible about my body and this was post surgery. He did not do anything lower than my love handles so this was especially destructive to my self esteem.

Obviously this is not a normal review for Dr. Denk and it was not made to attack but to inform future patients of all aspects of care. It is your money. Please go to a Doctor the you feel genuinely comfortable with and does not simply say that they can do a procedure but instead gives you realistic expectations.

I am very sorry to hear you are dissatisfied with the procedure performed, especially after I did everything I could to set the expectations for you.

I am concerned about any misunderstanding in the areas I performed surgery. My goal is always to be as clear as possible about the exact locations of the procedure being performed. To help with this, I did what I always do and specifically drew lines at the exact areas I was going to operate on. Photographing these markings is also a part of my preoperative routine. The areas I marked were the exact areas the liposuction was performed. The total volume of fat I removed undeniably confirms that these areas were treated. That said, I’m sorry for any misunderstanding that might have occurred.

I want to apologize for using common vernacular to describe a very specific bodily appearance. A large number of my patients have brought up the term "spongebob squarepants" as a way to describe their specific undesirable look. It is in not my term for this common undesirable look, but one that has become more commonly used, which is why I used it. I often try to use more mainstream vernacular as a way to help relate to my patients, but I recognize that in this instance it would be best to avoid this verbiage.

I am genuinely excited to hear that you were able to achieve your ideal look and weight through additional exercise and nutritional adjustments. As I mentioned in our consultation, healthy eating and exercise will absolutely help improve the results of the liposuction.

Since my staff nor I were unable to reach you after a number of attempts, I would be more than happy to revisit your situation. I continuously strive for nothing but the best results for every one of my patients. Please contact my office at your earliest convenience so we can further discuss your situation. All the best.
