Near Death Experience

On July 7, 2018, I went to Santo Domingo Dominican Republic to have a liposuction procedure performed by Dr. Walkiris Robles. On July 8, 2018 the driver came and pick me in a group of girls up to go get blood work and EKG and a chest x-ray to make sure that we were in good health in order to have the surgery performed. I was in good health. The liposuction procedure was performed on July 9, 2018. The day after surgery I begin to have shortness of breath and rapid heartbeat I did not think much of it I thought maybe I was coming down from the anesthesia. As days went by I still had the shortness of breath with rapid heartbeats with added mild chest pains. While at the recovery house I explain to the nurses that I could not sleep that I was jerking in my sleep and my heart keep beating really fast and that I was scared because I did not know what was going on. The nurses in a Recovery House assured me that I was okay and they told me that it could be anxiety by me being in a different country away from home. As days went by my symptoms got worse. One of the managers at The Recovery House Marther I explained to her that I needed for her to get in contact with the doctor in which she did and I requested an EKG because of my symptoms. Martha told me that other girls had experienced the same thing that it was just anxiety. Other girls at the recovery house that was in my room stayed up with me late at night and talking me through this thing at the time that I was going through because of the chest pains, shortness of breath and rapid heartbeat it was very hard for me to go to sleep and I was scared to go to sleep as well. After that, I contacted Tavarez who works at the medical office by WhatsApp and sent her several messages telling her that I was still having the shortness of breath and rapid heartbeat and when I came to my doctor's appointment I wanted the doctor to give me an EKG and a chest x-ray just to make sure that I was out of the clear on any condition. Tavaris never responded. On July 17, 2018 I went to the doctor's office for doctor's appointment to meet with Dr. Robles for her to take a look at my incisions and see how my healing was coming along. at that appointment I explain to Dr. Robles I said I was still having shortness of breath with rapid heartbeat and chest pains and that I was scared and I wanted her to give me an EKG and a chest x-ray. Dr. Robles told me that she did not think I need it to get an EKG or chest x-ray because they had done one prior to me receiving the surgery and everything was normal. She assured me that if anything was wrong with me it could not have came from the surgery and when I got back home that I could get myself checked out. Once again I never got an EKG done or chest x-ray after the surgery that I requested do to my symptoms. Dr. Robles said that she would have the nurse to check my hemoglobin and make sure that my hemoglobin was good. My hemoglobin was checked and it was good. Once again the discomfort that I was experiencing did not have anything to do with my hemoglobi. I feel like as a patient the doctor and medical staff neglected my Medical Care. On July 18, 2018 I had a flight to go back to Florida. why in the airport I had the worst experience ever my heartbeat was so fast and my chest was hurting so bad I tried to point at people so I can get help and nobody understood what was going on with me due to the language barrier I just stood there for a minute and try to take deep breaths after my heart rate went back down I got on the plane I was scared for my life I thought at that point I was dying. I did not want to die in the Dominican Republic if I was going to die I wanted to die close to home so that my family will be able to see me. After being cleared by the doctor for me to go back home I got on my flight. I had experience discomfort on the flight but I know I had to keep flying in order to get home so that I could get medical attention. I told a woman on the plane that I was having shortness of breath, chest pains and rapid heartbeat and could she please just keep her eye on me and if she saw anything unusual with me could she notifly the flight attendant because I was very scared and I did not know what was going on side of my body. I survived the plane flight. From my flight I had to be taken straight to the emergency room in Jacksonville Florida. I went into the emergency room with chest pains, shortness of breath and rapid heartbeat I was quickly taken to the back. I got an EKG done blood work, chest x-ray, CAT scan. My results show that I had a pulmonary embolism in my lung. I was admitted into the hospital for observation because of the chest pains, shortness of breath, and rapid heartbeats. After being discharged from the hospital I had to go back a day later which at this time I was admitted for two to three days for them to run other tests on me. They did more blood work and also gave me IV for being dehydrated and gave me an Echocardiogram. The echocardiogram was normal. I have not mentioned this incident to Dr. Robles or staff. I have been in communication with someone from Dr. Robles office about the drains that I had in and how I had concerns that it had been infected and which I have to go to the hospital on yesterday to get my drain site checked. Since I have come back from the Dominican Republic with this surgery my life has changed drastically. I have been seen at the emergency room three times in which I was admitted one of those times. I have gone to urgent care facility once and I have also had several doctors appointments. I am on medication however blood clots do not dissolve that quickly. I still have chest pains, shortness of breath and rapid heartbeats. I have kids. I cannot go to work right now and I was healthy before Dr. Robles perform this surgery.
Sometimes doing research is not enough. I can not stop praying and thanking God for being alive to talk about this.

Since then, the doctor and staff had been notified of this incident and basically there was nothing that they could do about it the only thing she did was kept in contact with me basically checking on me and asking me how I was doing.

Wow. I’m praying for you - I’m a Certified ER nurse here in the US and that just sounds so crazy to me. I’ve never heard of anyone being admitted to Observation for a symptomatic PE less than 2 weeks post op surgery performed in a third world country. I don’t want you to take my post the wrong way because I’m not trying to discredit your story - I’m just trying to understand how that would happen. That sounds like a lot of liability on any US medical license. If that’s true you should sue the physicians here for failing to meet the standard of care. Especially since your still on anticoagulants six months later.....

Thank you for reading my story yes I was wondering the same thing that day because my heart rate was high when I got to the ER for the first time and that was all they did they kept me for observation but I end up having to go back that same night because I was doing really bad there after but the second time I went back is when they kept me. I went to St.Vincent's Medical Center they are the ones that discovered the PE.

You should talk to an attorney - I was considering her but I heard she had some deaths and one of my coworkers is from the DR and she told me that if they snatch you too much you will have respiratory problems after and she knows a lot of girls that have this problem. So I backed off of her and went with Dr Manon - I was doing a last night check last night - you know that one more double check and I saw your post - I’ll keep you in prayer

lareinanegra Hello hun. I have contacted so many attorneys but because I am in the United States a lot of attorneys are only Bar certified for a particular State none of which I contacted practices international law. Had the incident occurred in the United States I would have no issue getting an attorney trust me I have called so many. Yes I think I was snatched too much but from my results it doesn't look like I was snatched like the pictures of her work posted online . Don't get me wrong she does good work but when you go to sleep you really don't know who's working on your body. Ohhh ok the other doctor I have never heard of them. I was never a big person or had a lot of imperfections it was me being greedy not accepting what God gave me. I should have never gotten any surgery but best believe this was a near-death experience and a complete eye opener for me and I will never go under the knife again only if it's needed to save my life and never again electively.
