Dr. Hughes is a No B.S. Kind of Doc, and I Liked That!
Hi... I'm 4 most PO and had lipo done on upper abdomen & bra line area at Hughes Plastic Surgery Center in Culver City, Ca.
When I initially went into the center for a consultation, I was nervous- it was my first time having major surgery! I had looked at a few other doctors prior to Dr. Hughes, so it was a pretty nerve wrecking experience having them look at you and pick you apart. I didnt feel that way with Dr. H...he told me bluntly after taking a look I would need a TT, but I was adamant against it, I just didn't want the scar that the previous docs told me i would have hip bone to hip bone.
Dr. H also told me that since I was adamant against the TT, he wanted me to lower my expectations and have a bit of reality set in. I had a huge fat roll on the upper abdomen and he said that due to that he would only be lipoing that area, and the bra roll, and some on the sides to give me a better shape. I have to say, I was thankful for the reality check and comfortable since I was doing crazy amounts of research and pretty much driving myself crazy.
Some background, I am 40 yrs, 5'4 and was about 190 at the time of surgery. I don't look like 190 as I've always had decent muscle structure due to working out and sports, but I know I wanted to get rid of the upper abdomen fat roll.
Fast forward to the day after, my husband was very much against the whole procedure, he was worried, bless him, but once he saw me day 1 post op...he was taken back and in the end thought I made the right decision.
I am happy to report that I am back to working out, eating better...Dr. H told me in would have some loose skin, so I expected that, but honestly it hasn't been loose like I imagined it would. The upper roll is gone, there is still some fat there, and yes my lower abdomen is still big, but I don't have a huge scar and its nothing that bathing suit briefs wouldn't hide and I'm happy to not have had the painful recovery.
I didn't take the pain meds during recovery, but it was difficult to use the restroom solo and get in and out of bed, put a shirt on, step into pants, etc. I was very careful with using the towels like Dr. H suggested and the garment all day, every day for the first 8 weeks. My husband was also very helpful in the recovery, reminding me about medications, vitamins, where to out towels after I showered and overall was the best caretaker ever! I wore the garment for about 2 weeks after the 8weeks when I started working out again, but have now since stopped using it. I'm happy I don't have my upper roll, I'm realistic about my results, have better waist definition and not huge rolls on my back bra line. I think people have to own their recovery to get the best results. If you dont do as the doctor instructs, then your results probably wont be as you were hoping.
About 3 weeks ago, I did have a question about the swelling and what I thought was a crease, and I emailed the office, and Dr. H responded really fast and told me to come in the office at my earliest convenience, so I did and he examined me. I have to say thanks for him taking time to see me versus having a nurse or just telling me to not worry, it was very assuring. I was happy with his promptness of answering my question himself.
Today, I'm only at about 185ish, but i fit clothes better than ever, and am happier with my shape, and I am so happy I decided to just treat myself this time. Maybe sometime in the future I'll let Dr. H do the TT, but I might be too chicken little at that point. I have my follow up appt coming up next month with Dr. H, and will tell him in person how happy I am. All in all, the office personal has been great; warm and friendly. I especially like Dr. H's no nonsense reality needs to sit in type attitude. I feel too many docs promise you then we read about the disappointments from their patients.
