Dr Ali Hussain - Chin/jawline/neck/upper and Lower Back

Honest review/feedback:
Dr Ali Hussain
For Liposuction chin/jawline/neck/upper back/lower back.
Cost: $11000
This review takes you through everything that I experienced which made up the review, I'm sorry it's long!!
Prior to the surgery I had one appointment which was done via Teleconference with Dr Ali Hussain on the 17th of December. This was a free consult. Then Nikki the practice Manager sent me the email with the quotes and the consent forms to fill out and send back. At the time I did not do this as I was not sure I wanted to use this surgeon. I did not send anything back to the practice at that stage. But the quote was for the following:
Liposuction – chin/Jawline/neck/upper back – cost of 7500.
On Monday the 7th of March I contacted the clinic via email and asked if they had any room to fit my in for surgery as my employer was offering me time off for two weeks and I thought I should make the most of it. Nikki advised that they had a cancellation for the next day due to covid and would slot me in if it was ok with me. I said that was fine but wanted to add my bra-line and lower back to the surgery, she quoted me over the phone another $3500 to get that done. I agreed over the phone, and she advised that she would send me a new email with the details of the surgery the following day. Please see image one.
I was 2.5hrs drive from the clinic as I live in a country town and made sure I would be early. I called the clinic on my way to them and asked about parking as I know it can be hectic in Brisbane. It sounded like Dr Ali answered the phone and advised that there was always parking on the same road as the clinic but if there wasn’t to call Nikki back and she would help direct me to further parking.
I arrived in Brisbane at 10.45 and seen there was no car parks on the clinic road so contacted Nikki as Dr Ali had advised. Nikki sounded confused and it sounded like Dr had not said that I had called earlier, Nikki tried to direct me to the nearest paid parking but there was no vacancy for this, So of the morning of my surgery I was pulled over on a busy Brisbane street with no idea how to find parking or what to do, I was flustered and nervous! (later found out) Due to the flooding in Brisbane there was no public transport running and so everyone was driving which meant there were no parks, from the conversation I had with the Dr I assumed that there was parking at his clinic, and I did not worry any more about this until I was stranded and stuck! Being from the country it’s not like I am well informed about parking in the city but I managed to find a park which ended up costing me an arm and leg for the few hours I was in the clinic, but it had to be done. But did I wish at that stage someone may have given me a heads up about the parking or lack thereof for the clinic – Yes! So after walking about 15minutes to the clinic I finally get there 11.20 puffed from the walk, but happy I made it!
First impressions of the clinic was not ideal. From the front entrance, which is pretty shabby see photo, When I first walked in, there was a smell, and I’m unsure how to explain the smell but It was not a comforting one. The lights near the front door did not work and the air con was buzzing. The receptionist (new maybe) looked terrible, she had Un-brushed hair that was pulled back and bunched up and the uniform she was wearing was really really crinkled. Like straight out of a drier that was finished three days ago and left crumped in the ball. So at these stage I was feeling really nervous, I thought in comparison to other surgeons I’m sure he is cheaper and this might be the reason. Haha.
From here I filled out some forms and Nikki came out and took payment for the procedure. She had said that surgery for me would take a couple of hours and I would be out around 3.30pm prior to adding on the additional areas. I asked if this would extend the time that I would be getting out as I had a friend coming to pick me up. She advised no, I would still be getting out at the same time. I wondered how that actually worked since they were doing more areas but just trusted it would be done.
From here they asked me to go into Dr Ali’s room to be changed, and put my markings on prior to surgery. Kenneth (nurse I think?) came in with a blanket and a box for my clothes and asked that I get changed. No one specified what I was to leave on or take off so I just assumed id be ok to keep my undies but took my bra off… Then Nikki came in to offer me a good price on some machine that tightens the skin and would be 800 today but it would be 1600 if I needed it down the track, I said no to this at the time because I’m only youngish I thought I’m sure I’d be ok.
Dr Ali came in and spoke with me about the surgery and Nikki and him made markings on my chin, neck and back. Then the doctor gave me another run down of the skin tightening that was would be cheaper to do now, so I agreed to pay the extra 800 and have this also done. Admin girl reappears with eftpos machine to take extra money. Then Kenneth came back in with a small glass of water and a tablet and said take this to relax me prior to the surgery, but gave me no name for the drug. I did as I was told and swallowed it, still don’t know what it was. ?
Before too long they asked to come into the operating theatre. This was the place that scared me the most. I have had surgeries overseas previously, including Bangkok and out of all the rooms that I have seen this would have to be the worst looking one. It had a partition on one side which was one of those dividers from Silly Sollies with Eiffel tower on it. It didn’t look dirty as such just old and maybe I’m used to hospital operation rooms but this seemed dodgy I can't explain it any other way.
I laid down face up on the table and Kenneth (Nurse) put a tourniquet around my wrist and put in a drip. I was not aware that I would be getting any medication other than my numbing needles
prior to getting liposuction, so was surprised that he was injecting me with anything, and he did not explain why he was putting in the drip and no one ever explained what they were injecting into me. One of the injections made me feel very heavy, I think maybe it was a sedative of some sort. The next thing I know Dr Ali is over me and asking me how old he looks. I was confused by the question, and honestly did not want to get the answer wrong he was about to cut into me! But I think maybe it was a tactic to distract me which I did appreciate.
Dr Ali then stated he would start the procedure and that I would feel a sting for the anaesthetic, I have to say that the feeling of them tearing under your skin is not ideal, but for the most part I did not feel anything much but pressure pulling/pushing etc around my chin. He then moved on to doing my lower neck and this is where it hurt. He was pushing the rod into the lower parts of my neck and I could feel it like it was not numbed properly, so I made a noise to vocalise my pain and Kenneth held my hand. Dr said ok we need more anaesthetic there and so said he would inject more but again it would hurt. He then pushed the rod down again and it hurt again but said that would be the last time it hurt, but it wasn’t it hurt again, first still on my neck and then when I was rolled over to do my back the pain was so bad that I ended up shaking and crying whilst he was doing the procedure. He had told me that I would only feel the needle to initially numb the area and then have no pain after. That was not the case, it hurt, and it hurt a lot! It felt like exactly what it was that he was doing -like there was a rod under my skin breaking up fat and sucking it up, and it hurt! Kenneth held my hand and wiped my tears whilst it was happening, and then finally Dr Ali said it’s over. All done. I could feel the liquid running out of the back of me from the puncture wounds he had created and I was still feeling the sting on some of the places he had not numbed properly but for the most part as soon as he stopped my pain did also.
After this Kenneth cleaned me and up and sat me up and I put a massive square pad and stuck it to my back. Kenneth put a tight chin bandage around my head and one that went over the back of my shoulder to press down the back of my neck as I got my ‘hump’ taken off. I then went and put my clothes back on and waited in a dark room for my people to come get me. They booked me in for the following morning to have a check-up which was as expected, they changed my dressing and took the big square pad off and put smaller ones over my incisions and told me not to shower until I came back the following Monday. She gave me a head band well what it looks like put around my chin and liposuction bra to cover my back and advised that they don’t really have a compression garment to cover my neck hump. I was sore at this stage but just wanted to get home. So after my catch up I drove home the 2.5 hours.
Nikki said I would need to return Monday as she had booked me in for lymphatic massage, but did not give me a time and date. Sunday came and I still had not heard from anyone what time the massage would be. I msged the number Nikki had msged me on previously and some lady called Annie said to come in at 10.00am. I arrived at the clinic by 10.00am after 2.5 hours driving. Found my own parking as again there was none which cost me 40 dollars for the 1.20hrs I was parked.
When I arrived Nikki did not recognize me and apologised then apologised because she thought I was coming in at 4.00pm. I said no that I had messaged the number on Sunday and was told 10am she said that’s ok I’ll get Kenneth ready to do your massage for you. So again communication is not their strong game. Kenneth gave me a lovely massage. And Dr Ali checked my incisions and said to remind Nikki to give me the ointment before I leave. Once the massage was finished Nikki came in with the cream and the eftpos machine and charged me a further $175 for the massage and the cream. No one had told me that the massage would cost extra or the cream, again no communication. I was just happy that I had the money in my account so that I was not embarrassed and could pay so please be aware.
Since then I have received a txt from them showing my before and after. And also Nikki has called once whilst I was at work just to ask how everything is going, to which I replied fine thank you. I’m not sure what she means by that I’m now three weeks post op and I still have pain in the areas on lipo and I’m getting my partner to do the lymphatic massage as I refused to drive all the way to Brisbane for an hour massage. Nikki has said that Dr Ali may follow up with me again in the future.
Would I go back. No . Purely because I felt butchered, I will be doing all my future surgeries back overseas. Unsure about the results at this stage it might be a waste of $11000 but it might not be.
Also side note- they so not give itemised receipts for the surgery just the slip the eftpos machine gives you. No surgeries can be claimed back on Medicare..
