Just had ankle/calf/knee/inner thigh lipo today

ORIGINAL POST

Ankle/calf/knee/inner Thigh Lipo

TBC579
WORTH IT$20,000
So I just had the procedure today. I’m trying to pay it forward since so many people on here have been so helpful.
So, my one complaint was the communication, BUT their system did get hacked for ransom. Also, I knew that my start time could change beforehand, which it did the day before, but the morning of at 8:45 am they told me to come in at 9:15. I was in the shower and still hadn’t eaten, so I just got there a teeny bit early versus 45 minutes early. Then when leaving to day, my appointment was set for 1PM since i have a later flight and nowhere to go, but then I got a text tonight saying to come at 11AM because he wouldn’t be in during the afternoon. Not very organized.
Other than THAT, everything was great. Yes, the lidocaine shots did sting pretty bad, especially in my ankles and knees, but I could have been more sensitive there due to the lipedema. It was very short lived, so don’t stress out. As everyone says there is a lot of twisting and turning and moving - both to inject the lidocaine/epinephrine numbing solution and while the fat is being sucked out. I didn’t think it was bad at all. Around my ankles and knee was the worst again, but it was very little pain with just some weird sensation like hitting your funny bone. For reference, I think that I have a pretty high pain threshold and I don’t get grossed out by surgery/blood/body things. I drove myself to my one week follow up from having a full hysterectomy and oopherctomy.
Anyway, I got back to the hotel just fine. Everything was still numb. I am not trying to be a hero, so I took my Percocet at the 4 hour mark and will continue to do so. I took a little nap, and then got up to pee. Yep, the whole burning legs, dizziness, nausea thing is no joke. I peed and laid back down and took one of the anti-nausea drugs. I took another nap but felt nauseated the whole time.. A few hours later I got up just to test thins again and it still burned pretty badly, so I laid back down. An hour after that I got up, and it was a world of difference.
IDr. Su and his staff are very nice. As others have said, its almost like a Pilates barre or yoga session where you are holding poses for a fair amount of time and flexing. It didn’t bother me or exhaust me at all. In fact, multiple times he told m to not tighten so much. Lol When he was done, I just didn’t have the words, and like many others, I teared up. I’ve been so skinny that people worried about me, but still I had fat knees and ankles. My inner ankle bone did not stick out AT ALL. There’s an a concave indentation on top of it in the midst of the fat…well, there WAS - not anymore.
Also, I traveled from out of state, and it has been fine traveling alone. Hmmm…what else.OH! I got a sock from them that helps get the compression garment on. It definitely helped. I also bought a “donner” to help for when I get home, so I will try to let you know how that goes.

OK, now that I’m a bit more with it, I can say the the lidocaine shots did hurt quite a bit (not dying or crying hurt) but it lasts a second for each one. Also, what I didn’t fully understand before I went in was that after the shots and the little incisions (didn’t’ feel those at all), he puts a cannula in and injects the lidocaine/ epinephrine fluid almost just as if he were sucking out the fat (but faster). Uncomfortable at times, but not bad. Like the lipo part, it was just a couple of areas that were uncomfortable. Before he starts, you take your first antibiotic (they have all of your meds there for you already) and you have the option of taking a pain pill - take the Percocet. After the first leg, I got the option again to get another Percocet. Take it. These aren’t super high doses. I’m pretty sensitive to opioids, and it didn’t make me feel out of it at all. Definitely bring some Miralax with you (its very gentle) though, to help combat the constipation. Don’t wait until you are constipated. Opioids are constipating enough, then when you add on not moving a lot, you’ve got a recipe for disaster. I also brought Arnica pellets to start taking. I don’t really believe in herbal medications much, but there’s pretty good data on the Arnica pellets (dissolve under tongue). They halo with bruising and swelling. Also I got some Bromelian supplements for swelling. You can drink pineapple juice, too to get bromelian in your system. I’ve seen some on here recommend lymphatic massages, but Dr. Su actually recommends against them, especially in the first few weeks. Also, I got fairly itchy (not bad), but I brought some Zyrtec with me to take the next day. I have pretty bad allergies, though, so it may make me more likely to itch.

Hi! How's your recovery been so far?
March 3, 2022
So far, so good. I don’t wear the garment any more as I don’t swell up hardly anymore, just teeny bits here and there. That being said, I do definitely have swelling left in my knees and ankles. No one would know but me a this point. When I get on my knees, it feels like I am kneeling on a cushion if that makes any sense. lol. I have 2 lumps around my ankles that are being stubborn, but lumps and bumps are too be expected. I am only 7 weeks out. If they are there 4 months from now, then I will worry about it. Scars not fading a whole lot, but I’m pale as hell and this is the normal healing process for me. Takes usually a year for most people’s scars to lighten. I really don’t care about them at all because they are so little. I am completely back to normal - no pain or uncomfortableness ever! I’ll post a 2 month update next week.

20,000????????!!!!! $ ??? Or 2,000. Bc I will not be looking into this provider that's straight up r*p*
January 26, 2022
Yes, $20,000. The knee/calf/ankle was $14k. The cost is per area, which is standard. I had 3 areas. It's supply and demand. The guy has people flying in from all over the country and even other countries for his lipo of arms and knees/calf/ankle areas. If you're going to get another area, then you will probably be fine with someone else who is less expensive, but doing 360 lipo in those areas is not a common practice and, in my experience, going to someone who specializes in certain procedures/areas is key versus someone who is a jack of all trades. There's no denying that if you do the same thing over and over again, you're going to be better at it than someone who does it once in awhile. I live in a major city, and there's one doctor who has even one before and after pic of knees or ankles, and its far from impressive. Even those in other cities just do like the inside of the knee, not the front, outside, or back, and they don't blend it, so people end up with sausage looking legs. Plus, plastic surgery is definitely one of the areas that has ended up with a lot of inflation due to the pandemic. Not only has their been less "supply" due to shutdown and pauses on elective surgeries, but the demand went up significantly because people have had the ability to work from home and not have to take time off to recover. Plus, due to the lack of going out and traveling, people have had more spending money for procedures - and interest rates have been low for financing. I would not be surprised if the cost regulates after things get back to normal. That being said, pre-pandemic it was still expensive as you can see from the other prices listed -$11-12k for those 2 areas.
I would seriously be worried about someone who charged $2k for one area of non-360 lipo, let alone 3 areas!

Day after (day 2)

Slept pretty good last night, actually. I set alarms for every 4 hours to wake up and take a pain pill. After that first few hours after the lidocaine wore off, I didn’t have hardly any pain if I didn’t move, but it definitely burned pretty bad (not God awful) and I was nauseated. After those few hours it was all good. Be forewarned that the padding around your ankles will get soaked, and it will bleed into the bed and the carpeting. Put the big pad on the bed and the one of smaller ones on top of your legs. Also, make sure that they give you tape in case the pad around you’d legs tears and you need to put a new one.
Morning was fine. Just stiff and a little sore. Follow up appt was at 11, but I waited in room for about an hour for him to come in. I wasn’t dizzy or anything after taking the garment off. I got a little sponge bath and the dragon ‘s blood. Still draining a little bit. The garment wasn’t bad at all, but I got a different one than ankle/knee folks since I had inner thighs done. The nurse said that the material of the full garment that I had was much softer and smoother. Also, I made sure to take a Percocet before I headed over there from the hotel. Got wheelchair service at the airport, and I’m so glad I did! Could I have walks it? Yes, but it would have been slow and semi-painful.

Hey you posted!! Your new legs look great!! You're also way less of a wimp than I was was haha. Good luck with your recovery!!
January 15, 2022
Lol! This isn’t my first surgery, so I was well versed with Percocet! Lol! And after re-reading this, I was definitely under the influence. Lol! That first few hours is I moved, it for sure hurt and burned and the nausea was pretty bad. I took and extra nausea pill and pain pill (says 1-2) and passed out so I could sleep through it!
Also, thanks for the tip on the wheelchair at the airport. Genius! They would even watch my stuff while I hobbled to the bathroom once I got to the gate.

Cost

TBC579
Oh, I forgot my other reason for 4 stars vs 6 - the cost. My ankle:calf Cody was $2k more than someone who had theirs done a week before me - and i had less fat removed - and I took a cancellation with short notice. Even after bringing that to their attention, there was no adjustment to my cost. The other person had gotten a quote awhile before I got mine. Moral of the story, if you think you might want to get it done, then get your consult and pricing ASAP.

Thank you for sharing. I wonder what was our cost?
January 15, 2022
So, mine was $14,500 for knee complex and ankles. It was $6k for inner thigh.

For as much as it costs, he should spend some of that updating the office. I was pretty surprised at how shabby it was (old furniture in the waiting room, paint missing on parts of the walls in the check up patient room with hooks just randomly there, outdated sink and toilet off of the procedure room). If it hadn’t been for all of these reviews, I may have backed out. Lol!
January 17, 2022
Zut! It is good that you are sharing this.... Was you afraid of hygienic point of view when at his office or just about the aesthetic? I'm like you, if I pay that much, I want to feel comfortable at any point of view. Also, it is disappointing that you had to pay 2k$ more, a couple of day after another patient, and had much less removed. (I looked at the other patients profile). I get that he is very good at way he's doing but it is disappointing still....
January 17, 2022
The difference was when the quote was done, supposedly, but I still don’t think it’s right. I was not worried to the hygienic point by any stretch of the imagination, but he needs to update things. It matters. The bathroom that I used at my follow up was nice, but it was in the back and there were boxes and materials stacked everywhere in the hallway and the room next to it. He needs a decorator.
January 17, 2022
It still does not detract from how good he is at what he does. I saw online that he is not a board certified plastic surveying, which is true. He was trained as internal medicine, and can still do lipo. But, to me, that is irrelevant. He focused on the same procedures day in and day out and has perfected the method. He is very talented.
January 22, 2022
I just talked to the office and they mentioned that they are moving to a new office and everything is in boxes. So, apparently they wanted an update, too. Lol!
