While the healing process is intense, I would do this or another procedure again. Dr. Su has an amazing gift as an artist and being able to translate that to real life bodies is an incredible talent. I traveled from Michigan and I feel blessed that I was able to find someone as gifted as him. To not only understand what lipedema is and the consequences it creates, but to have the precise skills to make an incredible change as if lipedema never existed. My knees and calves finally have a more shapely feminine appearance after years of dealing with it. The reward of seeing shapely legs after years of not being able to, is almost unreal to comprehend at first, but here I am! I’m pleased with my experience at Art Lipo.
I’m 6 weeks out from my Dec. 2025 procedure and my body has recovered well overall. I still have numbness in spots, but the nerve pain and overall discomfort is very minimal and hardly noticeable at this point. I still have some swelling in my knees and calves, but that's to be expected for another 2-3 months as they continue to heal. After 5 weeks, I started doing squats and lunges again and I didn’t have any pain. Just some tightness in the tissues above and around the knees where the swelling is, but manageable.
The clinical staff were professional, easy to talk to and did well answering questions (pre and during the procedure). In my opinion, they could improve with their follow up post surgery. To me, that seems just as important as the other aspects of the process. It was my understanding that someone would reach out to me at 2 weeks and 3 months post surgery, but no one did at the 2 week mark. With that being said, if I truly needed help, Dr. Su did give me his personal cell number and I was encouraged to use it as needed. However, I didn’t have any complications post surgery. I just felt a proper follow up should be just as important as the rest of the protocol.
If you get this procedure done (or any procedure for that matter), I highly encourage you to take the nitric oxide gas at the beginning of the numbing process. I did not at first and was reminded it was available. This was the most uncomfortable part of the entire surgery and the NO gas definitely took the edge off the pain, but also helped calm down my nerves too.
Be prepared to experience intense burning nerve pain after the surgery. You are gonna be sore for a while and very sensitive to walking, sitting, laying, etc for a good week. I hardly slept for the first 2 nights despite pain meds. However, each day, I could tell healing was taking place and I was moving forward.
