Lipedema Surgery - Do Not Recommend
I had lipedema surgery with Dr. Dung Nguyen at Stanford. This was a terrible experience and I do not recommend this surgeon. Dr. Nguyen was a no show for the 3 pre-op appointments scheduled [over 6 months leading up to the surgery]. I ended up meeting her 1 week before the surgery for 10 minutes and I was not impressed. I tried to note the areas where I had pain and was shut down; Dr. Nguyen said they did the whole area, so no need to know where my pain was or any details of my lipedema.
She removed 4 liters from the abominable and medial thigh area but left most of the heavy nodules in my lower abdomen. This surgery resulted in extreme pain for weeks as the nodules that were left pulled on the surgical site and the whole area felt like it was ripping. At two months, I circled back b/c I still had extreme swelling and the tissue did not look right. I was told it was swelling and nothing to worry about.
When I went in for revision surgery with a different doctor 3 months later, it was noted that I had an extreme amount of scarring in the lower abdomen and mons area from this surgery.
