Dr. Parikh is So Awesome...he is Personable, Honest and Has a Great Eye for Aesthetics(thank Goodness).

I am an African American female who had the lip thinning procedure done about 6 months ago.
My area of concern when I consulted with Dr. Parikh was; there was something resembling a cyst, located on my lower lip right at the border of where my outer lip and the inner mucosal tissue was. The cyst was getting bigger and was cosmetically bothersome to me.

When I met with Dr. Parikh we discussed the removal which would entail a lip thinning procedure. He explained the outcome of doing the thinning with the bottom lip only vs doing both and provided his recommendation on which option would cosmetically lend to the better outcome. Then he left the decision for me to make. I decided to do the thinning for both the top and bottom lip.

The day of --- after all paperwork was complete I went to the in-office procedure room where I was first prepped by the nurse. My eyes were covered from the glaring surgical overhead lights. Then Dr. Parikh injected the numbing medication in my lips and the surgery began. During the procedure, some minimal pulling, no pain. I can't recall exactly how long the procedure took for both lips but want to say it was about 2 hours.

Postprocedure:
I started to feel some discomfort around 2-3 hours after the procedure but this was alleviated by the pain medication provided (I picked up rx prior to procedure). I only needed this med twice in the 1-2 days after the procedure. I also initially had quite a bit of swelling but was in contact with Dr. Parikh through his med app so he was able to see pics and also prescribe some additional therapeutic modalities. I iced for the first day and ate soft foods for approx 4 days following the procedure. Vaseline will be your plus one for the first few weeks. However, by week 2 I was ok in public as the swelling had substantially gone down.
FYI - initially, your smile feels tight because the sutures are in place, but they eventually dissolve. When the swelling goes down some of the sutures will become loose - I trimmed those but did not cut them out.

Almost 6 months later, the 'cyst' is gone. My side and front lip profile is better. I am very happy with my smile. And you absolutely can not see the suture lines. Those who know me have commented that I've lost weight but no one has even guessed that I've had this procedure done (yay). For anyone considering this procedure or has any lip concerns, go make that consult with Dr. Parikh. I have no regrets and I am very pleased with the outcome!
