Honestly, for those with really long philtrums this is not the type surgery you do once but it’s also not the type of surgery you would want to do twice. My lips have dropped SO much it’s unbelievable. I’ve been left with a terrible scar so this surgery really wasn’t worth it for me at all.
My scar is no longer white and has darkened so it is less visible. My scar hasn’t gotten thicker at all which I’m really pleased about because I was terrified I was going to end up with super thick hypertrophic scar. The sides of my incision still haven’t closed up, at this point I can definitely this scar will probably not heal closed. So it’s looking like the only thing that can fix this is a revision or else I’ll have to live with permanent holes in my face :(.
I would say my nose itself had returned to its original size but my nostrils still flare more than they use to. I’ll probably wait until a year and a half before I get a revision because I’m scared of how much a second surgery would affect my nose, my mouth would probably be more triangular and the chances of scarring again is pretty much the same, so it’s like is there really any point?

My surgeon gave me a steroid shot last week, my scar was so thick it was resistant to the needle. There is only some improvement on the left side, none in the ride side. I will probably go back for another shot in May.
My incision still isn’t closing up. Honestly don’t know what to do anymore because the scar is one thing, but the holes can’t be hidden.

Thank you for the update and so sorry to hear that you're still having issues with the incision not closing. What did you doctor say about the healing issue? Seems like they should help address that first thing before the scar management. Did you have any other wound healing issues prior to this surgery? Usually face wounds close up within a few days. Maybe consulting a general doctor regarding healing would help in case there's some kind of systemic issue going on? Wishing you faster recovery with this one!

My doctor is just telling me to give it time and that it will close up. I have never had surgery before, but I have had normal cuts and scrapes that have healed just fine, even burns. I’ve even had piercings done and my body responded ok.
I’m thinking it’s because I’m still young, my immune system may have overreacted to the suture material (because it literally rejected every single last suture). I also thought I may have been allergic to the sutures but I don’t think so because I didn’t have any other worrying symptoms.
Only time will tell but it’s very likely I would need a revision. I’m hoping to try all other options (steroid shots, laser etc) before a revision because I’m scared that may go wrong for me too!!

I got a revision for a bad lip lift and it still scarred. Wish I hadn’t bothered, now using laser treatment and it’s looking so much better :)

Have you asked your Dr about a scar revision? Sorry you are going through this. We never expect to encounter something bad. I’m barely 2 weeks out myself. My wound edges are crappy. But I know there is hope and thr good thing is my Dr included all the after treatments with the procedure price. Right now I’m still tight under my nose and lip especially in the middle. But like I said it’s too soon. Do keep in mind there is hope for your scar. You just have to keep doing your homework

My doctor said to wait until one year has passed before discussing a revision. He said my scar tissue is still very thick to do anything now. I’m very worried about having a revision because the chances of me scarring again is very high! The revision would also be like another lip lift, although I would like a bit more removed, my nose would probably take a serious hit! My nose has already gotten bigger and I wouldn’t want it to get any bigger than it already is!

Hey love, after 2 lip lifts and awful scarring I feel your pain. I discovered an amazing scar specialist called Dr H Consult in London, he’s using various lasers to get rid of my scar, it’s really improving but it’s expensive. I would suggest finding someone talented in this area to help you cx

Hey thanks! I will be contacting him soon. I’m glad your scar is getting better

Nose: My nose still hasn’t gone back to its normal size, but it has settled down a lot more since my last post. I actually no longer hate my nose, the side profile of my nose actually looks better and straighter than it did before.
Lips: My lip has dropped quite a bit which is really disappointing, I really hope it doesn’t drop any further. Other than that, I love the shape of my new lips. The only thing is when I talk my lips does have this weird bunny/triangular shape.
Scar: in my last post I had several bumps due to internal sutures and some of the bumps turned out to be abscess. I did see my surgeon after this and he popped the abscess and dug out the remaining stitches. This did help significantly as my incision is now more flat. Thankfully I didn’t get a hypertrophic scar (which is what I thought I had but it was just abscess and bumps due to the stitches), so I can easily cover the scar with makeup. If you look closely I do still have some holes in my incision hopefully they will heal. But the scar is still so extremely visible and since it’s not hypertrophic I’m not quite sure what my scar treatment option will be. Im scared to get a revision because there’s risk of scarring again. Im totally devastated at the fact that I’m one of the very unlucky few to be left with such a bad scar :(.

Thanks for sharing your experience. With your nose - is there still swelling in the tip or are the nostrils wider? I’m considering this procedure but I’m worried that it will affect my nose
December 16, 2022
At this rate I don’t even know if my nose is swollen, I’m starting to think it’s a permanent thing. But yes, my nostrils are definitely wider. I do have before pictures in my earlier posts that you can have a look at.

I'm happy your scar is flatter now & can be covered with makeup. Give yourself more time to heal before deciding about a revision. There have been some scar revisions done that have turned out really well. Keep your head up. Thanks for sharing. BLESSINGS

Thanks! I’m not sure about a revision anymore as I will probably just get another scar.

I think it could get you a better scar with a revision, because that time you will only remove around 2-3 mm making it a smaller lift than you had on your first. 10 mm is very much to remove just in one surgery, and maybe that could be one reason to why it was a harder healing process since it was more aggresive. Please have hope, see other surgeons and ask them what they think could be a possible result with a revision.

That is possible! My scar does just seem to be getting worse with time. I’ll until about the 6 month mark before I start doing any sort of scar treatment. I will keep you guys posted.

Thank you for sharing your journey of the post-op healing! So happy to see that the scar got better after 9 weeks and you're able to cover it with makeup. The resulting shape of your lips and the philtrum length looks great on you!
I'd give the scar time to mature before considering any revision. It takes about a year for the scar to fully mature. 10 to 15 mins with the scar gel twice a day really helped with my raised scars on each side of the nose (although they are definitely much less noticeable in my case). The raised areas will flatten out and the color will even out as well. Wishing you speedy recovery! Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

Thank you! That’s what my doctor said but I guess I’ll just have to wait. I am still using silicone gel I don’t really think it’s improving the look of the scar but I would say it’s playing a role in keeping it flat for sure!
Happy new year!

Ask about Kenalog injections. It helps with scar and keloids. If you feel that your scar feels like a tight rope. That’s a scar adhesion or scar tissue. I’m on day 2 of my lip lift. And omg my lip is about to burst. I look like Mrs

Meeting with my surgeon tomorrow to discuss my scar. My scar is actually not tight at all. Good luck with your lip lift journey!!

Thank you it’s definitely a process and the stages. It’s so itchy right now omg. Keep up is posted.

You wrote that the Dr used dissolvable sutures, do you mean that those sutures that usually come off after 5-7 days were dissolvable instead? Did he place deep sutures under the skin too?
Look up Missliplift on IG, she explains why it’s not good having dissolving sutures on the surface and other good information. And you can follow her journey when she is getting her revision.
I don’t think you will have same poor healing if you get a revision, the surgeon just have to give you the right condition to heal well, which I think your first didn’t give you. The dr should have known that dissolving sutures can increase irritation and inflammation to the skin and make your healing slower, specially for those with thicker and darker skin that scar worse than other…
Thank you & I hope your healing journey is going ok!
A scar that gets the worst conditions to heal vs a scar that gets the best conditions to heal, you know that those scars will never look the same, never. It doesn’t matter how much time you give it or how many laser treatments you do etc. you can’t make a scar magically disappear unless you cut it out and replace it with a smaller scar.
Tbh I don’t think it’s worth the money for Funny546928 to spend on treatments that make the scar look 15-20% better when she can save up for a scar revision that will get her at least 80-90% better scar. Her scar is too severe to get the improvement she probably want.
