Worst decision of my life - extremely risky even in expert hands

Lip lift tightness is nerve damage

Unfortunately the tightness from lip to nose was diagnosed by a highly respected dermatologist as nerve damage. She said all LL cause nerve damage which sometimes does not heal. Also, can take a year, after that is unlikely to heal, so for now just wait. She said everyone who she lasers their LL scar has this. Everyone. Of course PS did not mention this prior to surgery. Has anyone had this at 6 months, but did heal by 12 months?

Please don’t worry, you will heal. What does help extremely is avoiding nicotine
Thanks for this note. I hope you are right. I don't smoke thankfully.
Hi, have you noticed any improvement? I'm beginning to worry about the tugging and tightness at my columella... still feels rock solid and stiff with movement. Also, had the lip settled into a more pleasant shape at all? Thanks.
After 12 months the tightness hasn't changed. I'm trying to just live with and accept this, there is no other choice as cannot be 'fixed'!
I also have the same issue with numbness and tightness 9 mos post op. Do you have any improvement now following your last post?
Are any of you able to name the surgeon(s)? It would be so helpful You can DM if you like. Thanks

Lip Lift Extremely Risky Even in Expert Hands

6 months in I feel qualified to review. I am also writing the review I wish I had read before surgery. This operation has taken a HUGE physical and emotional toll and I dont recommend this uncommon proceedure (even if it seems common on RS) - for example, no celebrities would dare mess with this way overhyped risky proceedure. Do you even know anyone who did this and can actually give you the real story? I haven't posted images because this feedback isnt about what mine looks like. Please consider if YOU can live with a scar, weird looking closed mouth, and distorted nose (just SO much going on with this surgery). Still images don't tell the whole story . REALLY, YOUR FACE WONT LOOK BETTER IN REAL LIFE, at best just different. Might look ok in still images - and why with my so-called not bad outcome isn't posted as I don't want to encourage anyone). More than just a dissapointing aesthetic, there is something I wasn't prepared for: constantly feeling the scar when moving my mouth. It's extremely disconcerting and omnipresent even if not painful. I saw bad reviews for this proceedure but most mentioned getting a top surgeon was key, so I did that. But this has been the worst decision of my life (and I've made some). Nothing has prepared me for the level of regret and even shame I have from this. I am seeing a psychologist for the first time in my life as I can't get past my feeling of regret and obsessive thinking about it...Please all, see a apsychologist before (and therefore ideally instead of) the proceedure to understand and address your reasons for considering such a risky surgery - yes, all for a few mm of lips (not because our natural selves are in any way disfigured, even if we judge ourselves like that, no one else EVER would). There is more going on in our heads to think its fine to undergo risky surgery for few mm of lips. It's actually crazy when you think about it. Please let the psychologist help you get perspective. Please do this. I think if I saw someone who cared but questioned (instead of a plastic surgeon) I would be living my old carefree life where I wasn't thinking about my face EVERY minute of the day, and could focus in life, work, family etc. I miss the person I once was. I'm interested in others stories about the mental journey and recovery, if you want to back up this warning to others, and how you dealt with the scar sensation.

Have you inquired with your surgeon about the scar discomfort?
Who was your doctor?
I'm so sorry you're not happy with your result. I know from other surgeries I've had how frustrating and painful it can be. I can tell you, though, that there are many of us who are extremely happy we had lip lifts. I had an upper and corner lip lift with Dr. Mascaro in May 2021, and it has made a dramatic positive improvement in my face. The scars healed perfectly and I look completely natural, just much better without a 20 mm space between my nose and upper lip.

Dr. Talei in CA posted pics of a model who came to him for a lip lift and she looks gorgeous. Few celebs are going to go public with surgery of any kind. I know there are a lot of doctors who claim they can do this procedure, but few do it extremely well. It's true that there are a lot of less than perfect results out there. But many of us, particularly patients of Dr. Mascaro, Dr. Talei, and Dr. Pearson, are very satisfied with the surgery and thrilled we did it.
Yes, i didn't realise before that so few PS do this well indicates it isn't a surgery with predictable outcomes. Compare to nose surgery: there are probably thousands globally who can do it well, as outcomes are controllable. But for LL there are 3 or so surgeons, as well as many who outright refuse to do it. It's worth thinking about that too.
Ask your surgeon to show you how to do lip exercises to help with tightness. I am so sorry you are not happy with this procedure. For myself the improvement was worth the tightness, swelling etc. I believe a lot of celebrities have had this. I think your surgeon should have told you about the side effects of this as it is not for everyone. I used to look in the mirror every day and hate the long gap in between my nose and lip. For myself the tightness and swelling was worth it. I don't think it is for everyone though and know what you are talking about when you that feeling bothers you. I guess I was so happy with what I looked like I didnt mind the long recovery. I always tell people it takes a year to recover, even with swelling. Surgeons should do the same. I hope things continue to improve for you.
There are videos showing this also
Hi, you are so right. I hated my before lip. You can see it in my pictures. I do like my new lip and the space. My problem is the spitting of sutures. It’s all inflammed and pissed off. But I started to do my own treatments of micro needling along with kenalog (steroid). I work in the medical field I have access to medicine. I put the kenalog topically then mircroneedle the kenalog in superficially. Then my plastic surgeon will inject me along into the stiff part area. I’m only 2.5 months out.
