Horrific job!! The implants Dr. Kent V. Hasen inserted were too short. I moved here from CT in 2016 and wanted to get the procedure done. I guess I didn't do my research too well. These implants caused me a lot of anguish in the past few years. There are underlying issues as to why I did not go back to his office sooner. I have an autoimmune disease called Systemic Scleroderma. It can affect the size of your mouth and lips, actually shrinking them - amongst other things. The main reason I wanted the implants were so I wouldn't have to be reminded of my illness every time I looked in the mirror. I thought I would "nip it in the bud" so to speak, before it got worse. I was not looking for full, voluptuous lips! I just wanted "normal" lips. I messaged his office addressing my concerns a few times to no avail. If the problem was because of my own doing or from my illness, I would not be complaining. Money appears to be the motivator in his practice. I spent a good sum to have the implants initially put in. I was under general anesthesia and it was quite obvious that Dr. Hasen was not experienced in this procedure - seeing that there were several hands in and around my mouth!! I spent several thousands of dollars the past few years trying to fill in the ridging caused by the improperly placed small implants. I also had to pay to have my lips fixed. Dr. Hasen never acknowledged the fact that it was his fault, but did agree to take the implants out for "free" (that's a sign of admitting guilt to me!) I am a true believer that surgeons are very skilled artists and I highly respect them. However, if I made a mistake, I would definitely admit to it and try to remedy it. I would appreciate reimbursement for the surgery that I had done by Dr. Hasen. I am not looking for anything else - after all, it was not my fault, at all. I walked around for over 2 years with literally a lip disfigurement. I even got reprimanded by a doctor demanding that I tell her who did the surgery. I did not tell her, because I thought that maybe it was supposed to look that way (low self-esteem!!) It really put me in a state of depression. Looking at the disfigurement of my lips every day. I just thought that maybe the surgery didn't work correctly for me. Then, I decided to try other avenues. My drooling from the loss of my lip mobility appeared to be getting worse. The feeling of the tight tube in my lips every day was becoming unbearable. My asymmetrical mouth was terrible looking and just not right. I decided to seek out the advice of a few cosmetic surgeons. The one I chose was unbelievable!! I have never had such professional, caring and supportive doctor like him. He agreed to do my surgery (remove the implants) along with other procedures to make me feel good again. Dr. Hasen was willing to just take out the implants and leave it at that!! I am not a mean or vindictive person, I just want to be treated fairly and I do not believe I was with Dr. Hasen. Just for the note - I had my initial consult with Dr. Hasen on November 21, 2016. Procedure was done on 12/2/2016, a follow-up on 12/9/2016 and one more exam on March 22, 2017. I never heard from them after that - only when I left my messages regarding an appointment. Those appointments, as I understood, required a consult fee!! I have already visited my "new" surgeon more times than I did in ten days than I ever did with Dr. Hasen! I would not post this if I hadn't felt that I was done wrong. Please take into consideration the information I relayed here in this post before making your choice.

I am sorry I had to put another review out there. First of all, I never had a 6-month check-up with your office. My lips were still swollen at my 3-month visit, so it did not look that bad. I meant "local" anesthesia, not "general" - sorry, my mistake. The autoimmune has been in remission for quite some time, so I do not believe that had anything to do with it. I was told, by other board-certified plastic surgeons, that the implants were too short. I was also told that they were misplaced above the lip and not within the lip line. I will not mention any names because I know how doctors "stick together" and I wouldn't want to play anyone against anyone - it's not why I am writing this review. - However, I wouldn't make this up. It is apparent and truly unfortunate, that the procedure was performed incorrectly - the pictures posted depict that. My new lip procedure went beautifully. The doctor was wonderful. I am just sad that I wasted $4,000.00 and my self image on something that was performed incorrectly. I am sure you do nice work, but, through my experience, I would not recommend you for a facial procedure. Good luck to you and your practice as well.

I have Systemic Sclerosis too and was considering this surgery. I'm in remission as well. One of the issues with us is the upper lip actually needs something called a mucosal advance like they perform with anuses when they have to do a reconstruction on those. They literally need to bring tissue from the inside of the lip to the outside. I am hoping to find a doctor that can do it. I have researched and just haven't found the right surgeon.

An upper lift lip works well. My "new" surgeon removed the "too short" implants and he performed an upper lip lift. Like I said before, I am not looking for "voluptuous lips," I was just looking for "normal" looking lips. I believe, if done properly, the implants may have been sufficient for what I was looking for. The lip lift definitely looks 100% better than the implants I received. I've never heard of the procedure you are talking about, but good luck in finding a doctor that performs it.

Permalip
New picture for a better look at the end result of the insertion of the Permalip. $3,950.00 2/12 years ago and this is what I get!!! Doctor Hasen's conclusion was to remove the implants for "free!" At $3,950.00, I don't consider the removal as "free" at that price!

Final result at present
Pictures of 3 different stages of lips.
1. Before Permalip inserted in December, 2016
2. Outcome of Permalip implant 2 years later
3 and 4. "New" procedure performed on July 10, 2019 - by a different doctor, of course. This was done to fix the former procedure of Permalip inserted too short and improper placement. I had the Permalip removed and an upper lip lift. These pictures are a little less than 1 month after.

#3 and #4 were deleted from the pictures. I put them on my "new" facial plastic surgeon's website and the "After removal of Permalip" picture of September 29, 2019.
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery & Med Spa of Naples we take patient satisfaction very seriously and want all to have a good experience. Unfortunately, you sound as if you feel you did not receive adequate follow up and general anesthesia. First, lip augmentation is a procedure done under light oral sedation. No IV is ever placed for this and no general anesthesia is used. Second, follow up appointments are normal to see the patient at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months. After that we are always happy to see the patient if they have further issues that they bring to our attention. It also sounds like the autoimmune disease may be a major factor in causing issues of your lips more than implants could. You claim that Dr. Hasen is not experienced in lip augmentation without knowing the facts. In truth, he has done them for over ten years in over 50 patients. Lip enhancement with fillers is always the first option, but in patients that want a more permanent fix, an implant is an option. A lip implant is made of solid silicone rubber, so it will always be felt. That is one of the major drawbacks of this type of lip enhancement. Every procedure has benefits and risks. An offer to revise a procedure at no cost to the patient is not an admission of guilt, but an act of kindness to try to remedy the perceived issue or concern the patient has. We are sorry that you have not had a good experience, but are happy that you have found someone to help you. Best of luck to you in the future.
