28 Years Old...nice Booty but Horrible Hip Dips - Linden, NJ

Ok so I am a 28 year old woman with no children (yet)... I have always had a nice size booty no real complaints there, however i do have what people call "hip dips" and they are pretty bad. I am 5'2 and my weight fluctuates between 140-152 usually. Most of this weight goes to my thighs and butt. I have struggled for years with the insecurity of wearing form fitting clothes around my hip area because the hip dips are so noticeable. I absolutely hate it. I have been reading reviews from different women here on realself for a few years and i have to say that this has really been a big help for me in deciding what I want to do. Sooo I decided on doing a Fat Transfer to my hips!!! I went to the consultation with Joseph Alkon, which costs $110, but goes towards the total final cost if you decided to go with him for the surgery. He was very polite and very real in the sense that he was honest about what the possible results could be. He did let me know that because my dips were so severe and my skin in that area so tight I might not get the exact results i was looking for. This news is a little disheartening but at least he was being realistic. I went ahead and scheduled my surgery for 6 weeks later.

Hello and welcome to RealSelf! I will be following your journey. Could you put before pictures up? I am also 5'2 and was wondering what is a "hip dip"?

hey :) thanks for your sharing your story. I don't mean to be bossy.. but wanted to point out that rating your experience as worth it and with stars BEFORE it's happened totally confounds the purpose of rating in the first place. Would you consider taking your stars down and rating it "not sure yet" until you've actually had the experience and fully healed, so that you can contribute a meaningful assessment about whether it WAS actually "worth it" and how satisfied you are with the whole experience (the surgery, the surgeon, the pain you had to endure, the healing process and the final results) ? Best of luck!! We're rooting for you and hope your results make you happy with your decision

Oh! Good to know! Thanks for the correction :) .. yes, please keep us posted, because the rating will mean much more when you've had time to heal and evaluate the outcome. Hoping for the best for you!!

Those indents on the side are often called hip dips.

Oh mine look similar! Glad to see I'm not the only one!
May 26, 2015
I would call them saddlebags.

Ouch!!! Hip dip sounds less......large......stick with hip dip and leave the "saddlebags" for horses

oh wow. I also have the same thing. I never knew it was a name for it..lol

I made a suggestion right above this. Its an idea to address "hip dips"

It looks like if you lost some weight the side dip you're talking about wouldn't be that noticable in my opinion.

ive always had that problem and it was always just as bad ... just a year ago i was weighing 126lbs and it was just the same

I've found its more noticeable when I'm leaner, theres less fat to fill in the "dip" part
May 27, 2015
really? so do you think they dont go away? I have them too and feel like the hip dips are fat pockets.

Mine are bone....it's like the way my pelvis is or something ...my mom would always poke them and say "ohh muffin top is showing" and be surprised that they weren't squishy she was poking my hip bone and joint

It may sound weird and I don't think it will completely cure 'the problem' but have you transferring really heavy on the butt and hips (while eating well and a lot)? I think filling in the hips with muscle and tightening the butt so it is more compact on the sides might make a pretty big difference. Try it for 2 months. pM if you want some suggestions for exercises. You will have to lift heavy.

I've never heard of a hip dip until now. I wish you the best and hope you are happy with your results. Please post pics.

How has your recovery been? Is the transfer taking?
