Life Changing - Cosmelan Peel for Melasma and Hyperpigmentation. So Happy!

WORTH IT
I am in my last 20'S and have been suffering from a combination of melasma and hyperpigmentation for approx 5 or 6 years.
I am a medium olive skin type and I have been using oral antibiotics and prescription creams to treat my active acne for approx 10 years, on and off. Many of the antibiotics increased my sensitivity to the sun, which I believe has greatly contributed to my pigmentation issues.
I have tried many treatments in the past to treat my acne scars, including micro-needling, chemical peels, herbal peels, Q Switched laser, LED therapy, hydroquinone, topical retinol. Some of these treatments were effective in improving the overall texture of my skin, however, it seems that these treatments ( laser & needling) made my pigmentation issues worse.
I use SPF daily, I always wear a hat and I avoid the sun. Regardless, my pigmentation seemed to get worse every day and began spreading across my entire forehead.
After seeing a photo of myself at a friends wedding, where I looked like I had patches of dirt across my forehead, I decided to search for treatments to specifically target my melasma.
I came across The Face & Body Clinic on Instagram and they seemed to have amazing before and after images from a treatment called Lumecca IPL, so I scheduled a consultation with the nurse.
My nurse Amanda was friendly and informative - she explained that Lumecca is a great option for some people, but unfortunately, I was not one of them. Apparently, the heat of Lumecca could actually make my Melasma worse!
Instead, she suggested that I undertake something called an '8-week depigmentation program'. This included a light peel to prep my skin, then the actual cosmelan peel 2 weeks later, a bunch of products to maintain my results and a 'check in' appointments after my peel.
I was a little bit shocked when I saw the total price, especially because I had it in my mind that I could just do 1 or 2 IPL treatments and my melasma would be magically fixed.
The nurse wrote my treatment plan out for me and said to take a few days to think about it. She also encouraged me to call the clinic if I had any questions.
I went home a bit deflated and googled all the providers of cosmelan in my local area. I had a few phone consultations and two more in-person consults. Some of those clinics were significantly cheaper (eg. $350 cheaper) but there was no mention of skin prep or skincare etc.
Ultimately, I felt the nurse at the first clinic had the most knowledge about the procedure and I felt comfortable with her, so I decided to commit to the full 8-week program. Luckily they offer payment plans so I am able to space the payments out a over a few months.
I had my first appointment in mid march - we did a mild peel with Lactic Acid. I was also given a cleaner and toner to use in the lead up my cosmelan peel.
I managed to get my peel done on 23/03 before they closed up due to the virus.
On the day of my cosmelan peel, the nurse cleaned my skin with what smelt like nail polish remover (but it wasn't) and applied a thick layer of peanut butter coloured paste on my skin. There was no pain or discomfort - except I was a little embarrassed that I had to walk to my car with a brown layer on my face. Haha.
Before I left, she gave me a full kit of products to use in the morning and evenings, every night for 30 days. She also said I had to leave the mask on for 10 hours and then wash it off in the shower with warm water.
She said I would like red and sunburnt when the mask came off and I might feel tight and dry for 2-3 days before I started peeling.
It's been a just over a week since my treatment and my results are just astounding. My skin is still dry and flaking in places, but so far, the process has been exactly as the nurse described.
I am now using cosmelan 2 maintenance cream and my home care products, which I will continue using for 30 days.
I've included my day by day pictures for reference. The peeling is a bit scary, but I was prepared - the nurse showed me pictures of what to expect, so that took away my anxiety about the process.
So far, I would say that this is the best investment I have ever made in my skin and worth every penny. I just wish I did this sooner.

Thank you for posting your story! I've been looking into this treatment and I live in Williams Landing too ( small world!) and had been looking for a great clinic to go to. I'm now gonna check this place out as they sound like they were really good with consultant and pre and post care. That speaks volumes on the clinic. Your results look so good too!! Wild this be a once every 3-4 year treatment? Look forward to more progress pictures please

Thanks for the kind comments on my skin. I 've had a few strangers randomly compliment me on my skin in the last few weeks and its the strangest feeling. My results have improved even more because the redness is gone. Highly recommend this treatment and the provider to everyone. Keep me posted on your research and results.
Wow, congratulations on your great results! Thanks for sharing such a detailed review.
