I am one week out from getting PRK done on my eyes...
WORTH IT$3,600
I am one week out from getting PRK done on my eyes. I wear glasses and/or contacts for mild nearsightedness (-1.5 in both eyes, astigmatism off and on for several years). I require keen vision for the observational requirements of my job, so I decided to take the plunge with Pacific Cataract & Laser Institute in Lewiston, ID.
I waffled for several weeks about getting the procedure done because my correction is so minimal, but 1.) I have never owned a pair of glasses that I did not break, lose, or somehow mar, 2.) Glasses have always been extremely annoying to me: fogging up, getting rained on, or having to choose between clear vision and shade from the sun (e.g. sunglasses), 3.) Although contact lenses work for me, my eyes are always tired and irritated by the end of the day, and 4.) Contact lenses are not only expensive, they could be dangerous, like when I get dust or grit in between my contact lens and my eyeball and it's suddenly an emergency, or when I accidentally leave them in overnight and wake up to gooey, pusy eyes.
I have read numerous reviews, both good and bad about PRK results and recovery, but mostly good. The doctors at PCLI have years of experience under their belts and I believe that I will be in good hands. I was referred to them by my local optometrist's office.

Call from the office
I received a call from the office this morning and I had a bunch of questions answered for me, including:
1.) Will I receive pain medication for my post-op pain? Answer: yes; they would have me take a written prescription to my pharmacy.
2.) Will my recovery possibly be easier since I have a milder prescription?
Answer: no; the recovery time really doesn't have anything to do with the level of myopia I currently have, but the results will be better.
3.) Are there any medications I need to avoid prior to my appointment this Thursday?
Answer: no; whatever I'm currently taking shouldn't have an impact on the procedure
4.) I've read others' post-op instructions were to leave their eyes closed for the first 24 hours, only to open them when putting in eye drops. Will this be the case for me?
Answer: no; I may watch television or anything else I feel up to, except for up-close reading.
Prior to my surgery, I think I will rent a book on tape from the library and set up the bedroom so that I'll be comfortable. Any other suggestions out there for those that might be reading?

Day of treatment
PRK happened!
This will be brief because my sight is wobbly, but I wanted to report that my PRK went very well. I felt no pain throughout the process and was treated kindly and professionally by the PLCI staff and surgeon. I am recouping at home with books on tape and a litany of eye drops and pain meds. I will update later with more information about the procedure itself and my observations thus far.
