WORTH IT$1,200

First I am thankful for all those on this form that have shared their pictures and stories. It's those stories that have kept me encouraged throughout my six month pre-op process.

History: I was diagnosed with a thyroid disorder at 19 years old. I knew that weight would be a struggle for me at some point. During my 20's I worked out 6 days a week, took diet pills (Adipex or OTC), followed Weight Watchers. With all my efforts I was a solid 150 lbs. (height 5,7). It wasn't until I started having kids, started grad-school, battled infertility, and depression, the lbs. started packing on. I no longer had extra hours to exercise.

Now: My children are young and energetic and I feel that I am watching their childhood from the sidelines. I have no energy, or I am too concerned about rolls jiggling to enjoy myself. My feet hurt from the time I get out of bed in the morning. I used to love shopping and getting dressed up. Now I would rather stay in the house in my pajamas.

Decision: I decided to have the surgery because I want my life back. I miss the person I was prior to the weight. I miss being happy. I want to enjoy my husband and kids.

Pre-op- I was overjoyed when I started my job 9 months ago, and found out they covered bariatric surgery. As soon as I became eligible for benefits, I scheduled my consultation. I don't have any conditions outside of the hypoactive thyroid. I had to do six months of nutritional counseling. Waiting on insurance approval was the hardest part.

Surgery: I am now hours away from surgery... I am nervous... Anxious... Scared... Optimistic.

My current weight: 259.5 ??

Heaviest weight 267 ??

Goal weight: 160

Sleeved and recovery

My sleeve surgery was successful. It took 45 minutes. I do have a lot of nausea despite all the medication, I've been provided. I was up walking laps on the hospital. The medical team stated I am doing really well. Day two in the hospital I passed my swallow evaluation. I am eating jello and popsicles. Surprising I don't have any gas.

Is my stomach small enough???

User Avatar

I did extensive research prior to picking my surgeon. I even traveled over an hour for our appointments. He has done VSG on a relative. I am saying all of this because I am wondering... is my stomach small enough???? I spent 6 months of speaking with a dietitian about how hard it was going to be post-op to get my fluids in, sipping my water, 7oz stomach etc.. However I am Not having any of those issues. I drink about 96oz of water a day. Now I am sipping it but I am getting it in. I can sip my premier protein drink in about 15 min. No issues. Has anyone else been able to drink easily after surgery. I don't have an appetite, and have to remind myself to eat something. Just concerned...

I was able to drink pretty easy after surgery. But now being 6 months out someday I can eat up to 6 oz and drink up to 12 oz. Then there are day where I can barley eat 3 spoon or drink 6 oz of water at a time. So your doing good just don't over do it and you will be fine.
